Title: Facial changes you noticed when you shave your face.
Post by: marshd1000 on June 10, 2009, 08:03:57 PM
Well guys, I have shaved off my goatee and am down to just a mustache.  I have not done this for a couple of years.  In fact, a couple of years ago, I did the Mr. Clean look for a short period of time.  But I grew the facial hair back when I broke out with a fever blister.

Well, since I shave things down I think I now have a developing double chin or I look kind of jowly.  I will post a updated picture soon.  But has anyone noticed things like this?

I think when you haven't seen your chin in a while, you forget what it looks like.  Having a beard, even a short one, tends to add a bit of length.  Shaving it off reveals all the "flaws" that the beard camouflaged, and makes them seem more prominent than we remembered them.

Here is my current look along with the goatee and the full beard.

Marsh, when i shaved my beard off it took me off a bit. Although i only had one for two months, not a few years. So when i noticed my face was a little.... "fuller" than what i remembered it to be, i immediately did what i could to help fix that. heh.

to be honest, i think you look better with the beard. but less hair is easier to maintain, so i say go with what makes you happy!  O0

My vote goes to the goat.

Change is huge, I can't say which is better for you.  You did have a really fine beard though.

It comes down to which do you prefer, once you get over the "Who's that dude in the mirror?" bit.

Here I am totally clean shaven.  What do you think?

Initial reaction, goatee and stache, particularly the full goat you had, was better.  But it's a "you" determination, what do you like?  That's the one to go for.

As everyone has said, it is a personal preference.  My vote goes to the full beard.  The clean shaven face makes your cheeks look fuller, not that it's a bad thing, mind you.

I will ultimately go for the full beard or the goatee and mustache.  But I kind of want to shake it up, so I might do Mr Clean for awhile!

Wow... that's a big change!! I don't think I could be that brave! My beard is getting a bit outta my comfort zone, so I'm looking for a change maybe too. We'll see. I just haven't been as brave as you, I'm kinda afraid of what I might find! ha

I do like changing the look up from time to time... perhaps I'll go clean too!

Coltsfan,

Even though I am clean shaven right now, I have always admired your beard.  Your current avitar is cool.  I would grow one that big if my professional life allowed it and if it was not grey.  Although I could be a sly Santa then!  How long have you been without a trim?

Here's another vote for the beard or goat.

Since you asked, I'd vote to definitely grow the fur back.

Booted, no worries, the fur will come back.  But I am having fun with this for right now.  The last time I did this, I got a fever blister so I grew it back right away.  But I have always admired your fur too.  You carry off the big goatee look real well!

Also, you guys might get a chuckle out of this.  I have one of my best friends coming to stay with me for a short season.  He really should be part of SBG.  But even before I ever went sly, we have always been asked if were are brothers.  So here is our look alike picture!

Well,

In case you haven't noticed, I have a newer avitar taken with a friend's I-Phone.  I think it is one of my better pictures, even though it is without facial hair.  But I have decided to grow some facial hair after the 4th.  My face is just too tender.  But it has been fun!

When I went to vote, there wasn't a total Mr. Clean choice.  I actually like your new avatar picture.  Since there's no grey facial hair, it seems like you've lost many more years - looks like early 30's to me.  I would give it some time to see how you like it.  Maybe there should be a new facial hair rule like the shaved-head 30 day rule...

You can have my facial fur when you shave it off my cold, dead face.

The avatar Mr Clean looks great, bro: slimmer and younger looking too! O0  But I must admit I also really like the goat.

Your choice in the end. 8)

I think the clean shaven face looks good marsh. Maybe you should keep it a while. Takes years off.
I am a big fan of facial hair myself, so I know how it feels when you shave it off.
Do what feels right for you.    O0

A few years ago I shaved off my goatee just to see what I looked like without it.  I had never had a shaved face while having a shaved chin, and after finishing losing a lot of weight I think I was "hungry" to change my appearance again for a bit because I was used to seeing myself change on a weekly basis.  So I decided to shave it and keep it shaved for a week.  After shaving I noticed my chin and upper lip both looked very small.  That hair really does give the optical illusion that those parts are bigger than they are.

BTW, my goatee was the reason I realized my jawbone is not symmetrical.  I could never shave both sides in the exact same way and finally realized that the reason for this was that my jaw must not be the same on both sides.

I strongly agree, Marsh..... Shaving took "At LEAST" 10 years off your appearance... O0

As you can all see, I have now grown the beard back.  It was fun being Mr Clean.  But I have to admit that to be true to myself, I need to at least have a mustache.  But my favorite look is the full beard and shaved head.
