First off, thanks to all for the pointers and (as we say here) the 'Pull up your skirt and just do it ya Sally' comments. O0 So, I begged momma and she signed my permission slip to slyville.
Started with the #0 last night and decided just to pull the trigger 3/4 of the way through so now I'm newly sly. 'What are you doing?' is still running through my head though and I'm still not 100% on it but like it enough went and bought a Headblade and Headslick 45 min after doing it.
Went to a small house party last night and there were very few comments, other than the standard Mr. Clean and WTF did you do to yourself? ;D Best reaction was from a 6yr old friend's daughter who ran up and grabbed my head as soon as i sat down.
Anyway, thanks again and didn't mean to bark back that hard in my other post, it'd just been a long day.

Congrats man, I think it looks good. make sure to use some moisturizer on the fresh skin. Its a great feeling to get a innocent head rub from a little one. I held a friends 2 year old and he just kept rubbing my head and smiling, I said "here is a future Sly" !
Wait till the other head rubs come!!

ehhh we knows you didnt mean it. WE all understand we have been there before. It was all about taking that first step. I dont liek for anyone to force me to do something either. I get mean....and I bite....well maybe nibble....but anyways you get the point. Im glad you think its cool so far. Yes we all have those feelings a few days after we do it. THen it is like man i really dont want to ahve to do this every freakin day!!!!!!!!!!! I battled with that for about two weeks...now....I get upset when I CANT GET IN TO SHAVE> I gotta have that smooth top....its me now.....no more days with hair. See ya and Merry Christmas....

Congrats. You didn't mention what you're doing for lube. I alternate between the headlube glossy and baldguyz moisture gel.

I'm going to shoot for the 30 day trial. I have no idea how you guys get it smooth because I can't get better than insane velcro even directly after shaving, but that's a question for another topic area. And wow does it grow back fast.
I'm finding it really funny that none of my buddies say anything when they see it for the first time. Guess it's not really a big deal afterall. Very interested in the female reaction, especially those who have never seen me any other way. Can't make my dating life any slower than it's been for a while. ;D
My only hang up so far is going back to work, not sure how it'll go over with the boss.
BTW: just using the old aloe vera gel now, not looking for any shine at all. So far so good.

Looks great. Congratulations. Don't you feel better now that it's done? Once you get the notion to do it into your head, it's really hard to focus on anything else until you've done it.

That's the truth -- it really isn't a big deal to anyone but you. I heard many people say that when I was on the fence and just found it incomprehensible, and was sure that my friends would have a lot to say about it when I did it. Then I took the plunge and found that it was true -- nobody said anything at all. And time and time again, other people have experienced the same thing. When I grew my goat, I got a huge reaction from most people. Shaved my head, not a word. Who knows why?

WELL BUD, it looks GREAT !! Like everybody keeps tellin ya , it'll take ya about 30 days till YOU get your routine down to what razor does the best job for YOU, what lube/cream YOU like , what moisterizer YOU like ! So remember this one of the times it IS all about YOU ! ^-^ so just give it a while to settle down and settle in , and YEAH, ya never realize how fast your hair DOES grow till ya see it at the very beginning stages

Looks good bro. Liek the others have said give it sometime. I dont really remember what my first shave was like...im guessing it was smooth....but sorta have forgotten that. The headblade....the only 2 things you need to remember is against the grain...and pressure on the wheels. If you have to shave twice a day...just look at it this way, its good practice...by that rate you should have it licked by the end of this week. Congrats bro for doing it when you were ready...Im guessing right now you are thinking...I should have done it sooner. Keep up the good work bro..looks great!

Agreed, Andre. 440, it looks great, but I'm sure deep down inside you're probably smiling from ear to ear that you had the guts to do the deed. So congrats on that, and definitely keep the 30 days in mind. It's the best test. There are plenty of posts to read about getting the smoothest shave, but you've already done the hardest thing, taking the plunge. If you have any questions that you can't find an answer for, feel free to post up.

Thanks Warhawk and all. Christmas eve party tonight so I'll be able to sport the chrome for a big event. 8) Be interested to see if anyone says something then. I'm getting used to the look.
Now that I've done the deed it does feel better though, at least I don't have to deal with the bad pictures where my huge forehead is all you see in the shot.
Attached the picture from this summer that sort of sealed the deal. Stupid grin is due to a few brews. This shot told me to get back to the gym again and flared up the "I need to go sly" thought to outrun the mpb.

Hey 440, it looks great!!!
But, it's really how YOU feel about it that matters. The initial shock wears off after a few days (or, at least it did for me) and after a while, you'll perfect a shaving technique that's good for you. Just make sure:
1. Use a moisturizing after shave lube (especially during the drier winter months). I still occasionally use HeadBlade's HeadLube (matte finish....no shine for me) but once that's empty, I'll exclusively use L'Oreal's After Shave Balm with SPF 15. It spreads easier, no shine, smells good, and has some sun protection. A little more expensive, but worth it.
2. Get into the habit of applying SPF if you're going to be outside for an extended period of time. No need for melacoma to come knockin' on your door.
3. It sounds like your first dome shave was with something other than the HeadBlade. There are a lot of HB users here on SBG (me included) that swear by that thing. Just make certain to not apply any additional pressure to the blade and focus on keeping the wheels (Sport) or plastic nub (Classic, which I use) in contact with your skin. The blade is already set at the optimum angle.

Hey, 440, Looks great and very SLY. I'm betting you'll grow to love it more as each day passes and as you get more comfortable with it and forget that you ever had hair. The smoothness will improve over time, as you experiment and get your technique down. Just remember to go against the grain for the closest shave.

440, I'm kinda late on this topic, but congrats on doing the deed bro! Looks good and just keep with it and you'll be used to it in no time at all... velcro sucks but it's something you'll always battle. Glad you're permission slip is signed and you're now on the bus!

404 it looks fantastic. The velcro thing and close shaves will come, you're learning about your head in a totally new way. Try all the routines, experiment, buy some new weapons, I'm Power Fusion, and some Headslick, and baby oil is apparently now a "hot" item w/ us, have fun, enjoy, and tell us about how many people say:1 you look younger, and 2 that you have the "head for it!" This is fun, glad you've joined.
