Title: Any singers?
Post by: CraftyGuy on January 14, 2010, 12:00:31 PM
Are any of you sly guys singing as a hobby?  I'm a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and sing tenor in a quartet.

Only when no one is around to hear.

I also play a wicked "Satch Boogie" when I'm in my car. I get some funny looks for that.

I don't know if this would qualify as a hobby.  But I am a background vocalist on my church's worship team.

I sing in our Church Choir, praise team and specials (solos).  I've been a drummer for about 40 years and sang harmony and lead for most of those years.  I'd love to be part of a Barbershop Quartet, but there aren't any in my area.

I've been singing in our church choir (little village here in England) for 67 years! Joined when I was 9. Sang treble, later tenor, now a slightly croaky bass. Sang in a Barber Shop quartet many years ago. Nowadays spend a lot of time singing and strumming on my uke, usually with mates who also sing O0.

We both lie silently still in the dead of the night...all though we both lie close together...we feel miles a apart inside...was it something I said or something I did...did my words not come out right?  Though I tried not to hurt you...though I tried...but I guess that's why they say...

Hey George - PM me with your location, and I might be able to get you hooked up with a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society that is close to you.

George was banned by me because if you look at his 5 posts closely you will notice that they are just copied portions of an earlier response in their respective threads. That appears to be the work of some type of SPAM-Bot to me. If you look at the earlier responses in this thread you will see that he posted EXACTlY what someone else posted previously.... same for his responses in other threads.

Bye George..... we hardly knew ya.......

I used to sing in the church and school choirs in my (much) younger days, but now I like to write parodies (real songs with altered words) For New Year's Day I wrote this one (kinda corny)

Should bald acquaintance be forgot
And never on your mind
Should bald acquaintance be forgot
and  days of bald lang shine

For bald lang shine sly guys
For bald land shine
We'll take a cup of shaving cream
For bald land shine!!!

I sing.  Mostly at church, but anywhere people will listen.  One of my biggest regrets is not pursuing music more when I was younger.  I passed up a vocal scholarship to a college to study business somewhere else.  Then again, I'd probably be a starving artist if I pursued it.  :)

Not a professional singer here but do enjoy it. If anything I wish I could play a musical instrument.

You could make it a New Year's resolution.

Not a singer, however back in the day, I played bass in a local band. Started in high school and then quit a couple years after college. Anyone want to guess the name?  ;)

I had some serious stage fright issues so any time we played live we kept one side of the stage completely dark and I'd do my thing, assuming (probably wrongly) that nobody could even see me there.

I did try the karaoke once. Maybe a year ago. Of course the song was Voodoo by Godsmack. The girlfriend at the time said it was good but that song and my voice together was a bit disturbing. Still not sure what that meant  ;D

I used to sing quite a bit, until my hearing went real bad.  I need to wear my two hearing aids now, but that still don't help.  It seems when certain levels are hit by either instruments or singers my ear drums feel like a cracked speaker.

So I enjoy the sounds without being involved any longer.

I've been into singing, but never professionally. I know I'm better than average. Professionals have actually complimented me on it. Through my tweens, I decided I was either going to be a singer or writer. I settled on writer.

Not a professional at all but I do like to sing, nothing like blaring away to some good tune while in the shower :D. Also I'm a practictioner of Capoeira (Brazilian martial art) and that involves quite a lot of singing during fights and events, mostly with the choir but sometimes as the lead.
