Title: What to wear if you're bald?
Post by: Tallmark on September 28, 2011, 03:42:43 PM
Hi, this might sound like a stupid question, but does anyone find it difficult to find clothes that go with being bald? I don't know if it's because I'm recently bald but all of my current clothes just don't seem right?

I usually keep up to date with fashion etc, and I know most people just throw on whatever and don't care, but dressing well was one of the things that was part of being me - surely that doesn't have to change now?

Any advice guys?

I wear the same stuff I've been wearing all along. When not working, t shirt or sleeveless shirt with shorts or jeans.

At work I wear a dress shirt with dress slacks. They all seem to go well or at least I think they do. lol

I still wear white or blue dress shirts to work.  I've noticed that since I started shaving my head, I tend to wear darker colored casual shirts (navy, black, deep red, dark green), maybe because the darker colors make a better contrast.

I've found that I started to dress better once I went sly. Sly looks sharp!

It seems to me that the clothes I've always worn go so much better with my shaved head...

I wear all the same stuff. The one thing that really looks cool (IMHO) since going sly is my black double breasted gabardeen sport jacket that I owned for years before I shaved. It looked OK with long hair but it really looks good with sly.

It really depends what you mean by keeping up to date with Fashion TallMark. When most people say they're up to date they'll mean they buy a new shirt every once in a while when they go to a party etc then dressing as you always have shouldn't be a problem. If you mean that fashion is something you're interested in then that's a whole different "bald game", it's difficult to just match the latest trend to being bald. Anyway, there are limited resources out there but try fashioneggs.com (not too many articles but slowly building), or even just reading a few GQ's will help you out.

I still like to let it all hang out in my bib overalls with no shirt...comfort is priceless!

You could go around naked, but make sure you have bail money ready.

You're sly! Wear whatever the f**k you want!

When bald, it is best to wear confidence, When you are confident, the clothes you wear will look better on you.

I sure can't disagree with that, Kalbo.

I never liked myself in a tuxedo because I always looked like a moron, but since shaving my head, I even turn myself on when I wear a tux :)

As has been said, whatever you wear, wear it with confidence. With a smooth melon, nobody is going to have the balls to tell you that you look like sh1t anyway! :D

Hmmmmmm! I strongly agree.
Black leather jacket, black/dark grey sweater and black jeans/military style BDU trousers - the perfect choice for a bald guy (and, of course, for anyone else.)

My three pence worth...

It shouldn't really affect anything... being bald rocks!

But I look at myself differently now, maybe with more self respect, so I do tend to dress a little differently (heck, I've even lost a bit of weight!) ... I dress a little better, get myself nice clothes... I figure that now the head looks good, I might as well try and bring the rest up to scratch! (Hope that doesn't sound to concieted... it's really not meant that way, it's more that I spent years sporting a dodgy hair style, and now that I have a cool new look...)

Black is the way forward! :) From my old bike leather to my sunday best suit! Black always looks good...

Oh, yeah. Black is neutral enough: it might be elegant, or casual, or minimalistic... it depends on your sense of style - and of course, the occasion.

Over the last seven months, I've switched to darker clothes (black, dark grey, dark brown shirts and sweaters). The contrast with the dome looks good.

May be slightly off topic, but how about one (or two) stud earrings? Or maybe a hoop in the left ear only a la Mr. Clean? I think it looks pretty cool; it's something I may try later (I'm still part time military right now)

Most of the things in my wardrobe are the same from the pre-sly era. I've only got rid of the extremely bright colours (electric blue, bright yellow, ...) and I've adapted a black-and-white approach. Jeans, white t-shirt (often with a print), black blazer and a bald head is a great combo. Or to look less 'dressed up', I switch the blazer for a classic Adidas sportsvest.

Where I've used my clothing to stand out in the past, I now have a shaved head. Seeing people's reactions is amazing, especially when I've taken my time to look my best. You enter a room and people start staring, and in their eyes I can read "OMG, he's bald! But... it doesn't look bad!" Since shaving my head I don't GET attention anymore, I CLAIM attention.

@sirharry12: I think studs, hoops and piercings in general look great on sly people (it's like decorating a blank room), but I also feel we have to pay more attention to balancing out everything. We don't have the hair to 'soften' our appearance anymore. It's like: BAM, here's my face. So facial piercings that are too big, or too many piercings on one side, or just too many piercings in general will throw our face out of balance more easily IMO.

As long as the piercings are confined to the ears and done in moderation, I think is fine, however, I'm not going to knock those who want to go overboard with it, I think it should be up to each individual.

I've had both my ears pierced for ages so my ears, square diamonds.

hear latley i've loved the dress shirt/tie type deal. or khaki pants. It's a classier look IMO. I used to dress baggy clothes, kinda ruff, but I like to look professional now. if i could only coordinate the sweater vest and button ups like some older guys  O0 O0 O0 O0 O0

I like to dress up.  Dress slacks and button down oxford shirt. Cordovan loafers. Tie (bow or regular), Sport coat or leather jacket.

The guys at work used to make fun of me for dressing up, but anymore it's just the occasional complement, "You look sharp today".

I struggle with this topic as well. Glad I came to try and figure this out... I think style is important if you wanna look sharp. I have some outfits which I hate with my pasty whiteness, and others I do well with. Here's some that seem to work for me personally/I feel comfortable in:

1. Plain white tee, silvery gray levi's, and black cross trainers with white soles/ some other black athletic shoe. (I noticed as a pale white dude I look better with shirts whiter than my skin). Add a nice silver chain if you want my total look lol.

2. For dress casual- slim fit collared shirt with vertical stripes (I have a fat head so I don't want horizontal stripes), blue levi's or american eagle jeans, and brown shoes. Don't forget the belt matches the shoe color.

3. For work/formal- oxford socks and oxford shoes with no laces. Gray wool straight legged slacks (forget the pleats, please!) and a nice quality shirt. You can pick about any solid color. If you choose to do stripes, make sure not both your pants and your shirt are striped. One or the other. (This should be a rule for everyone, not just guys without hair) Also, don't forget the belt or miss a loop. Switch this out with brown pants and brown shoes, or khakis.

4. Long sleeved gray shirt, blue jeans, and brown oxford shoes. I'm a fan of the oxfords. They are classy and go with just about anything. Alfani makes great ones.

5. After this I'm out of ideas and would love more. By the way- I'm not gay- no offense to those who are. I just like to dress well.

6. When it's bright out, don't forget a kickass pair of shades. Nobody wears sunglasses better than guys with no hair.

Now for some stuff I hate wearing with my dumbass white head. Also- everyone looks better in different things, this is just me personally:

1. Black suit jackets

2. Yellow

3. Shiny things (I have oily skin :( - something else I'm working on)

4. Turtle necks.

5. horizontal striped polos

6. plaid or gingham

I like your style , must try some of the things in it , my bf who is lsly likes stripey t shirts and polos , gingham shirts are nice , kinda stuff used to wear when I wore skinhead uniform. Just bought some turtlenecks for golf as golf clubs here are pretty snooty asto what u wear . You sound very classy ,

Ps I am  gay , but have my deepest respect for those who are not .

The thing that does turn me offis guys who wear a long sleeve shirt and have it hanging out over there trousers to me it looks naff

Yeah like I said I have a complex with certain clothes although I'm sure it actually looks ok. Anything that goes in a horizontal direction, loud colors, patterns- idk. I got a fat head. If I had a narrow head I don't know- I just see it being more stylish lol.

I hope this topic keeps going, because one of the things I came to this site for was to look for the positive and improve my style. Hopefully there's some good product reviews when I get around to reading them, too.

I currently use Edge (it's hard to find aveeno shaving lotion), and the fusion 5 blade.

^Great list.

My staple products:
- leather jackets (one in black, one in grey, both are distressed).
- vintage regular jeans (I currently love wearing 1 dark colored, 1 medium colored and 1 ripped pair)
- slim fitted t-shirts (with a neutral print)
- slim fitted shirts (in neutral prints and colors), next to some classic blue shirts I also LOVE my denim shirts.
- slim fitted black blazer (goes with both the t-shirts and shirts)
- classic sweaters and cardigans in solid colors (black, grey, navy)
- neutral sports jackets
- shoes: regular converse sneakers and hi-top boots

In the past few months I've been building a nice capsule gardrobe. I wanted it to be as compact but versatile as possible. It doesn't really have a solid style like my pre-style wardrobe (which I would qualify as glam rock/rock chique), but this one's certainly more versatile. e;g. If I want to go really casual, I just wear a t-shirt with a sports jacket. I can switch the sport jacket for the blazer and appear a bit more dressed up/tailored.

I'm currently having an affair with shirts, more specifically denim shirts. They're currently everywhere in shops and I just love them.

Things I don't wear anymore since going sly:
- skinny jeans
- leather pants
- tight fitting t-shirts (I still use them as undergarments, though)
- heavy knit sweaters
- deconstructed/extremely loose items
