So which choice is it for you? Please vote AND respond with a reply!
-
I'll start............ I love all of the above choices but if i had to pick...... it would be Indian followed very closely by Thai.
And yes I like them both VERY hot!!!!!
-
I had to go with "other" because Italian is my favorite food in the world and it's not listed....
-
I had to go with other too Mike. While Indian comes in second for me, I'll take Vietnamese any time I can get it.
-
Could've done with 'ALL' category for me.
I have thing though where I think it might depend on what your accustom to eating in the main. Because of my background, I've grown up on mixed asian, Thai cuisine but enjoy food that I find completely different. i.e Roast dinners, Casseroles, Beef stew & dumplings, things like that.
So 'other' for moi.
-
In a prior life, I think I was Mexican.
Chicken Mole with a margarita, I'm good.
-
TexMex.
-
I have to do other too, even though I like all the choices, I would say that Mediteranean foods first, eastern and indian second with meso-american--i.e. Mexican, and other Latin American close. I just haven't ever found any "type" of food, if it was well prepared, that I don't like. Generally I prefer highly spiced and flavored foods, although I also like Scandanavian stuff a lot of people wouldn't even consider food like lutefisk. Poorly prepared foods, on the other hand--this Taco Bell, etc.--are enough to make me thin.
-
I had to go with Greek, as it's the closest to Armenian food. We share many foods in common, as there are many Armenians on Cypress. I also love Arabic food, which we also share in common, with slightly different names and slightly different ingredients. I grew up cooking Armenian foods.
I also love Japanese, Indian, Thai, and Chinese foods. I'm a big seafood lover, but don't care for fish that much.
-
ALL, of course (I mean, do I look picky?)
But voted 'other' for Japanese.
-
i went with chinese cause it wouldn't let me pick more than one.
-
I went with other. I chose other because I love Russian/Ukrainian food. When I go to my mothers house she always has a nice borsht cooking it seems. My wife is Ukrainian but she doesnt care for the food so she doesnt cook it much.
After Russian food I love chinese food. I like the sweet and sour pork and chicken, almond chicken, and all those other goodies.
-
I was an Italian in a former life I think. I could live on that stuff. The pasta, the cheese, the wine....yum!
Greek is a real close second. There is a Greek place here in town owned by a Greek guy. I'm not going to try to spell his name.
-
all the choices were g8 but being a proud filipino-american, i went with "other"----filipino food. O0

Love greek
-
Mexican, Italian..
then middle eastern...especially Armenian!!!
-
Italian. :@`
-
I voted Italian because there was no listing for Timmayjoelanesse
-
No choice for Soul Food ?!?!?!?!
-
I'm 100% Greek and grew up eating mostly Greek food, so that was my logical choice. My mother's side is from Cyprus, which mixed it up a little in that their food is a little different from that in Tinos where my father's family is from.
-
The guy that has the restaurant here in Griffin's first name is Angelo. It is some great food! He makes all his food from scratch. I've had everything on that menu.
-
Has to be chinese every time. Cant beat a satay
-
Mexican with Italian a close second

We went to a Russian Orthodox Church part of the time when we lived in Boston. The food was good <G>.

Mexican, Italian..

When would you get Armenian food? I only get it if we go back to Boston, and I haven't made it to Fresno yet.
-
Pad Thai (thai noodles) with chicken or shrimp. SEVEN Stars out of five on the spice scale.
-
I love Greek and Italian food. I cannot eat chinese food. I don't know but the taste never pleased me.
-
with all the choices there were i alsohad to go with OTHER because POLISH wasnt listed . whats up with thatski ? signed Porkowski
-
Do any of you eat Pho? If you don't know what Pho is, it is a Vietnamese noodle soup. Yummy!

Though a big fan of food (heck, I even travel by gastronavigation "Go down and turn left at the Burger King, go a mile and turn right at the Dairy Queen") I must say that goooood Chinese is near and dear to the belly. I served for two years in Hong Kong as an LDS Missionary. I have a fair hand at cooking Cantonese. Dim Sum... well... that's just a religious experience!
-
Every food thread on here gets my stomach rumbling !!!
Now you're adding pictures :*))
-
I love it all. Vietnamese, Japanese (sushi), authentic Mexican. I don't have Indian food often but when I do I love it and keep eating until its all gone. I think I know what's for dinner tonight.
I lived with a girl for 4 years who was half Vietnamese/Chinese (mother) and her father looked like Richard Gere. Anyway... Her mother would make the most outstanding Vietnamese food I've ever tasted. She would make a soup that took 24 hours to make. When served, raw beef was sliced almost translucent thin and put on top of noodles, herbs, etc... Then she'd pour this boiling hot anise like broth over top which cooked the meat as it sat there. Add red pepper paste, fish sauce (she called it "nook num"), lemon... It's been years but it's still one of the top 3 food experiences of my life. I wish I could find that in a restaurant somewhere.

Here's the recipe.

It's really a spinach pie/lasagne with phyllo dough taking the place of the pasta. Takes only 15 minutes to make. Well worth the effort. I've been eating this stuff ever since I was a kid. It was my mother's way of getting me to eat my spinach.

I voted for Mexican, but really it would be NEW Mexican. Our food here has a flavor all it's own. I'm a green chile addict. I eat it on anything I can. It's a food group all by itself. Italian is great too, we have a good family friend who is 100% Italian and she can COOK!
-
Lol! OK, i just read through this discussion again, Cheese's dish with the thinly sliced beef and noodles and anise broth has made me sweat out in a lather Dudes, it isn't lunch yet... gotta make it one hour. Maybe I can rifle through my students lunches (like on Billy Madison) LOL.
-
I had to go with Mexican but Chinese and Italian are a very close second
-
Just had a thought on this one. Does haggis count as an ethnic food?

Sounds like Pho. Have you ever had been to a pho restaurant, Cheese?
My vote has gots to be mexican.
-
pho? no. ???
Is that what's it's called? "Pho"?
OH MY GOD time2shine!!! I just google'd it. I think that's it!!!
Her mother would pronounce it "Fahhahhahhh". I never seemed to say it right because you have to go up and down with the "ah" sound. Oh man... I'm now on a quest to find the best Pho in Philadelphia. If it's half as good as the way her Mother made it I'm going to be one happy glutton.
Dude... I owe you.

Hah!
I used to be a chef and have tasted some of the best food in the world and a soup called "Pho" is in my top 3 food experiences. SOUP!??? Crazy isn't it?

Hey Tyler,
There's a great vietnamese restuarant on El Camino Real. I used to go there once a week for their Pho when I worked in San Mateo. I forgot the name of it, but it's about a block North of the BMW dealership on the west side of the street. A co-worker and I loved it. It was funny, we never called the restaurant by it's name. He would just ask, "Hey Schro, wanna go get some bad service?" ;D
The wait staff was probably the worst I've ever experienced. Oh, their Iced Coffee was awesome also.
-
We have some Vietnamese restraunts here in Stockton.... I'll have to give Fahahahahahhaaa a try.

"Pho" is Vietnamese for noodles. Or so I have heard.

Do you go for Italian in the Noth End? (that's North to everyone else)
I used to work in Eastie and would get good Italian food quite often. In fact, our patients would often bring homemade Italian pastries to us at Christmas time. (Course, pastries from Mike's Pastries is good too)

Just had a thought on this one. Does haggis count as an ethnic food?
Nope! Then again, I went to get a Guinness out of our spare fridge the other night, and it had frozen out there. It came out of the bottle as slush! In that case, it counts as food, right?

Explain why not bubbadave? If Indian food is ethnic, and Chinese is ethnic, why not Scottish food?

Well... I do have an open mind when it comes to food and have tried just about everything. Haggis just doesn't sound appealing to me. I'd certainly try it but I'd be surprised if I could have a full plate full of it.

Ok POC, I'll chime in ....
I like almost everything, but Haggis seem pretty hard-core. I guess eating organs, in general, is not very enticing to me. But, to each his own ... Others may not like alot of the Greek food I love.

NO way can a cheeseburger compete with haggis.

Speaking of noodles. Do any of you like going to ramen houses? I'm probably a bigger fan of pho, but ramen can be great after a night of drinking. I learned that in Japan.
-
Italian
-
It would have to be either Mexican or Chinese. I don't think Haggis would do it for me. Don't think I can stomach it.

Let's see...... you take a sheep's stomach, wash it out, cut up the sheep's organs, stuff the organs into the stomach along with some oatmeal and suet..... and then bake the whole thing.
Uh.......... pass the cheeseburger please........
I will eat nearly anything as long as it's not moving too fast BUT I have one rule when eating things....
If it performed a pumping or walking function while alive, I don't eat it.

Having worked in the food industry for more years than I care to remember and having a qualification in food safety, I am sorry to point this out, but anyone who beleives there is nothing nasty in burgers is kidding themselves on. Let me tell you guys, if you knew what goes on in food production you would never eat anything you didnt grow and prepare yourself again.

hmmm Gonna have to disagree with you on this one Scottish Ambassador. Not the part about mass produced food not being as pure as the stuff we may make at home but the fact that I'd still eat it. I have an associates degree in Culinary Arts, 20,000 hours of food service experience as a chef and am also certified in food safety and sanitation.
I've personally seen how hot dogs are made. I've also been to a meat processing plant and saw cows go from moo to a bagged strip loin in 7 minutes. Yet I effin LOVE McDonalds double quarter pounders! I cook a lot at home but I have no fear or reservations about processed food. I'm selective but choose to eat my burgers with a smile and a side of diet pepsi.

:Xo! It's amazin stuff. You guys need to give it a chance.
I have to defer to your qualifications and experience power, but cant see why eating haggis is a no-no for you when you will eat a McDonalds

Although I did cast judgment with my vomit emoticon, I didn't say I wouldn't "try" haggis. I just doubted my ability to eat a plate full. 40 years of primarily American cuisine doesn't really prepare you for a dish of animal organs stuffed into a stomach as a meal. You should see my co-workers when I devour a liverwurst and onion sandwich. I love that stuff but they can't even stand the smell. Their loss.
I'd try it though. Just PLEASE have that double quarter pounder ready to go! ;D

I used to live in Grand Rapids. A place there was called "Hole Lee Chow" (not sure of the spelling).
Don't know if it's still there.

Chinese all the way for me!! It has to be the authentic and fresh kind though. I'm not referring to what they sell at many of these fast food joints.
-
Love greek
I love baklava!
-
meatballs and spaghetti
Oh yeah! You can't leave the parmesan cheese out though!

Cantonese is my usual preference when it comes to Chinese, but Szechuan is good too.

Japanese fare is my favorite.

Here's another hijack with a funky chinese resturant name, near my work there is "Big Wang BBQ" but one of my Chinese friends didn't find it so hilarious, and that he knew the owner (a Fat guy called Wang) until I explained what a native English speaker would read into it

"Get This" is quite an interesting title, catchy.

Had to vote other as theres simply no way i could ever choose just one. Bit of a foodie here, and as such i enjoy a great variety of foods, just so long as they are prepared well, with adequate amounts of appropriate seasonings, cooked to the socially agreed upon level of perfect doneness (for example a steak, which should be somewhere between rare and medium in order to maximize flavor and tendeness, and for gods sake keep the seasoning simple, additional flavor complexity should come from your choice of sauce). Now, if the question had been whats your favorite meal to cook, the easy answer for me would be steak cooked just barely past rare, seasoned very simply with salt and pepper, topped with grilled onions and mushrooms, a bernaise sauce on top of that, with a side of mashed potatoes and either asparagus or brussel sprouts, add on a nicely done lobster tail or a cluster or 2 of snow crab legs with a butter garlic dipping sauce when i can afford it.

I'll start............ I love all of the above choices but if i had to pick...... it would be Indian followed very closely by Thai.
And yes I like them both VERY hot!!!!!
Woww! Then you must prefer the Szechuan type of Chinese food. I'm not big on very spicy stuff, so I prefer the Cantonese type.

Spicy food can be good, as it cleanses one's system. Be careful not to overdo it though; stomach ulcers are a possibility.

I chose Vietnamese as my daughter takes me (I pay) out to a local Pho place once a month. Thai and Malaysian food are big on the list too.

I love Indonesian rijstafel but it's impossible to find it here in the US. Basically you make a "table" of rice on your plate and then sample small portions of meat and vegetable dishes. Indonesian satay is terrific!
