Title: HERE'S THE NEW LOOK, Love the HeadBlade line!
Post by: schro on January 02, 2007, 09:41:28 PM
Well, here I am. My first shave was on New Year's and I used the HeadBlade Classic razor, Headslick, and Headlube (matte finish). I did not nick my dome once, and it was a smooth process. The initial shock of the change in my appearance is beginning to wear off a bit. The reactions to my new look have been overwhelmingly positive. My brother commented on my "bold move" and thought it looked good. I figure I didn't need his affirmation, but if anyone would give me the straight dope, it'd be him.

On the way home, I stopped to buy some wine/beer and the cashier needed to see my ID (not to card me but for credit card verification). Anyway, she had to do a double take. I told her I just shaved it yesterday. We started chatting for a few minutes and said I look so much younger going SLY. Big smile on my face.

Anyway, glad I found this website and thanks for all your support.

Later Guys,
Schro

;D ;D ;D Looks REALLY Great, Schro! You look much younger and your features work well with the bald-bold look. Keep on smiling. You'll find the look is well worth the maintenance. After shaving, for the first time in my life, I got interested in clothes; anything black, turtlenecks, leather, and shades all complement the dome. I celebrate your sly move. Professor Melon

Thanks for the kind words guys. My wife is not saying much and her attitude towards me (which is great to begin with) is unchanged, so that's a good thing. I think it's just a matter of time before she comes around. As far as clothes, I have a compliment of various things. I'm usually a hawaiian style shirt guy, which I think will work fine, but I do have all sorts of different looks to go with this new look. One things for sure, I'm not a big fan of the "velcro effect" (the catching of dome stubble on my shirts). I'm glad my shirt of choice is hawaiian shirts.

One nice thing that has happened since I cut the hair with the clippers (#1 setting) and now clean shaven....the painful sebhorric dermatitis has left the building, which is HUGE. Even if I don't keep the sly look (which I seriously doubt), I'll go no higher than the #1 setting.

Have a great Wednesday,
Schro

You like Hawaiian shirts... how do these look?  I used to wear them all the time... since went to shaving full time (and getting in shape) I usually only wear them at Buffett now...

All good shirts Rob! Like Bill Murray said in Stripes, "I want to party with you, Cowboy".
I heard about Buffet's split from Corona. I understand the marketing match with Corona, but I always pictured him as a Dos Equis kinda guy anyway (better beer, especially the amber). I'll post a couple of my hawaiian shirts on here eventually.

Yeah, the scalp condition going away is a frikkin' blessing. If any of you guys suffer from severe dandruff, here's a home remedy that really helps. Take vinegar, dilute it 50/50 with water, and put it in a spray bottle. I know it sounds gross, but dandruff (at least what I had) is really a type of yeast you body produces. The vinegar really kills it. After I did the #1 buzz, the mixture was able to get all the way down to the scalp and really did the trick. One thing though, since it was easier to reach the scalp, I felt like Macauley Caulkin in Home Alone after he applied the after shave.....OUCH! It stung for about 30 secs, but it was such a relief. Granted my case was severe. Oh, and don't forget to wash it off before you go out in the world. You don't want to be smelling like a dinner salad when you go chumming for lay-days.

Later,
Schro

Schro,
Dude, welcome to the Sly Lifestyle!  I think once you have shaved for a few weeks you are probably going to get to the point where I am in that I almost never go without shaving every day.

In the winter I wear alot of hooded sweat shirts and well, if I don't shave I get that velcro effect and return to being a "lint head" (the phrase "lint head" was a derogatory term used to describe people that worked in a cotton mill and lived in the mill village.....where I grew up.  The workers would leave work with cotton lint in their hair and on their clothing ...thus the term).

It definitely makes you look younger.  I turned 44 at the beginning of December but people have a hard time guessing my age.  It's pretty cool.

Keep it up bro!  Like I like to say "Attitude is Everything....Shaving your head requires The RIGHT ATTITUDE!

Thanks MC. I don't think I'll shave it every day, especially when I go to button down hawaiian shirts practically 24/7, but every other day will likely be the ticket.

Sadly, I couldn't get tickets for Wrigley... it was the first time in 7 years that I missed seeing him.  Plus, I was living just outside of Baltimore at the time...

Our normal venue to see Jimmy is Alpine Valley in Wisconsin.  Great tailgating!!

Probably wouldn't have been too tough to pick you out in the crowd. When I go to an Oakland Raider game (yeah, I know they suck), I tell people, "Hey, look for me during the telecast. I'll be the one wearing black".

Not sure how well that would go over in the black hole, Tyler.  He might get beat up or something.   Although you could say that the raiders franchise is stuck in a black hole right now, couldn't you  ;D?

With the behavior of professional athletes in team sports, I am finding myself watching team sports less & less and watching more golf. Plus, I'm much more of a news junkie. Although my son (age 6) started taking an interest in sports thru player trading cards. Kinda tough to tell him, "Yeah Alex, Randy Moss is a great player, except he takes plays off, smokes the hippy lettuce, and is a team cancer."

This year, I plan on coaching my daughter's youth soccer team. I haven't coached in 18 yrs. Should be interesting.

The past two seasons, the team was coached by a buddy of mine. His daughter & mine are good friends and our two families do a lot together. They have 3 kids and can not do it all. No one has stepped up to commit for next season. Rather than have uncertainty, I said I'd do it. This was with the agreement with my wife that she cuts down on her volunteering to do everything for everyone. I'm trying to get her to wear her "Super Mom" cape a little less. Hopefully she'll trade the cape in for something a little sexier and stay at home a little more.  ;D  ;)

Tyler, I HIGHLY recommend that you nip that in the bud before you start having your own kids. Marriage really isn't that much of a change in lifestyle. The only difference between dating and marriage (IMHO) is that the penalty for breaking up is a whole lot more severe with marriage than dating. Now kids.........THAT'S a lifestyle change. Although being a parent is the most important & rewarding job you'll ever have, your wife (and you) need to rememer that she (you) was a wife (husband) long before you became a parent. Although my wife is incredible in every sense of the word, I sometimes have to remind her of this.

OK, that's all from Dr. Schro for this Friday's Marriage 101 class. Now, go have a beer!

Schro,
Dude!! Watch out with the soccer coaching.  The kids are great....the Parents....well, that's a different story.

Both of my daughters are soccer players (one in middle school and one in college now).   I do speed and agility training for soccer teams and also have been the assistant coach for the local high school Women's team for the last 4 years.   That is not so bad but club/rec soccer with parents standing right on the sidelines...whoa, thats a whole different ball of screaming dads and moms!

I know you will do so but just focus on making the sport fun for the kids at that age.  At 6 none of them are the next Mia Hamm or Julie Foudy.

The other thing is meet with the parents prior to the season and let them know what you expect regarding their sportsmanship and how they treat the refs, their children, and the whole experience.   Some clubs here are having parents sign "code of conduct" pledges and/or take online classes in sportsmanship.
I think at the age that your kids are the best thing you can do with a group of parents is to invite the local head referee to do a class on the rules of the game.
At 6 they don't have offsides and some of the more complicated rules interpretations but there is still enough they can learn.  Also, the referee should remind parents that their actions can adversely effect the team if they are beligerent to the refs during the game.  Typically at younger ages the refs are kids themselves (13 year old and up) and I don't know about you but when I was 13 having a bunch of screaming parents yelling at me would not have gone over well.

Good luck with it.  Have fun. And make those kids love you because you are making it fun for them!

And tell the parents to shut the heck up!! ha ha

Thanks MC. Sounds like you've been around soccer for quite some time. I don't think I would have agreed to it if I wasn't aware of the parent situation. My daughter's team has been together for two seasons and (with the exception of one dad) the parents are all great. I've played both outdoor and indoor (prior to two ACL reconstructions) all my life, as has my wife. It's also my understanding that the kids with the really cool parents all want their daughters to return, which I'm excited about. They're all great girls and practices are enjoyable. With my wife taking my son to his practices on the same day, I took our dog to her my daughter's practice and sometimes was the asst. coach when my services were needed. It should all be good. One thing's for certain, I don't think I would have volunteered for my son's team. The parental vibe on that team is just not what it should be. A lot of the elements you mentioned come through...not pretty.

To me, it's all about fun and these girls have a clear vision of that. In fact, at the year-end team party, most of the girls said their favorite game wasn't even a game they won. They had no subs, it was close to 90 degrees, and they tied one of the better teams 1-1. They were all really proud of their efforts.
