Title: Gouged my head
Post by: reddog on July 06, 2015, 01:27:20 PM
Well, I bought a new safety razor, a Parker 96L. On the second shave, I put a large gouge in the top of my head. Now, it's been ages since I cut myself. This razor loosened up several times, and that's what caused the cut. Needless to say, it's packed up and ready for return. Guess I'll just keep looking for an old Gillette Fatboy.

So while the cut is healing, I'm only shaving the sides and back. I should have a high and tight recon in a few days!

Sorry about the gouge.  But get us some photos of the high and tight before your shave.  It is one of my favorite haircuts that I never had.

Sorry that happened reddog! I can definitely relate. I gouged mine on the left side several months ago and it was a bummer. I remember having to shave around that cut and it was very inconvenient. Hope you heal very fast!

That is just one of the reasons I do not like to shave my own head.

You guys were right, healed up in 4-5 days! Sorry, not enough hair for a photo, but it was driving me nuts, so back to a shiny bald shaved head today. Looks and feels much better.

I've been curious about using a safety razor, but the subject of this thread is the reason I haven't.  Can you guys give me a convincing argument as to why I should try it and how to avoid the dreaded gouged scalp?

I'm glad you're all healed up Reddog!

I purchased the van der hagen safety razor set. The bumps are gone and my head is smooth as hell. My girl loves it and i second her motion. Never going back to cartridges. Im in love. There is a "art of shaving" store in the mall around here and I'm pretty sure im gonna buy some soap and bowl set ups. If u haven't tried a safety razor u definitely should.

I've just started using DE razors again. I have 3 in rotation & I've managed to gouge my head 3 times in as many weeks. Very unnerving peeling the meat out of the razor compartment.
I have pics but it won't let me post them.

Sorry about the gouge Bro.  I use the Gillette Slim, which I'm happy with.  Yeah I put a couple of nicks in my dome-however it was due to wrong adjustment (having the setting too high), or improper technique; yet most of the time I am successful.

Glad you've healed Reddog, and hope you acquire that Fatboy.

Thanks, DC. Still using my old Tech and a Mercur and haven't knicked myself in a long time. Concentration and go slow is the key. Can't beat a BBS shave with a DE.
