Title: Jergens Natural Glow Lotion
Post by: ncblue on December 21, 2007, 06:06:29 AM
Hey guys, I bought some of this last night and started using it and thought I'd share the results with you.  I'll take pictures along the way and document my progress of trying to take this powder white head down to something with a little color!!

It says it will take 3-4 days for the gradual darkening to begin, so we'll see.  I'm not looking for a miracle, just a little darker and blended better would make me happy.  I'll post a good picture of the top of my head tonight so you can see where I'm starting.

YES NCBLUE...that was the stuff I was talking about last night in one of my post.  Its a lotion and it will gradually tone your skin color.  Unlike the sunless tanning lotions that turn your head or skin orange.  This is the same stuff my wife uses in the winter time and I though hey why not start using it on my noggin. Right on bro..im with you on this one. Cause I started it last night too.  But only one suggestion...I dont think I will put it on my noggin right after I shave.  It seems to burn a little when i put it on.  I think it was because your pores are wide open.  I will put some more on midday ....just a suggestion I dunno.  Keep us posted NC....and I will do the same.  See y'all

It does burn!  I did apply it right after I shaved this morning and it stung pretty good, but it went away fast and then felt pretty good.

I'll take your advice and apply it later on.  What's good to put on the head right after shaving?

Welcome to the forum ncblue,
I use Mennen Afta Clear, After Shave Skin Conditioner. At $2.45, it's inexpensive, and soothes scalp burn caused by headshaving. It conditions, relieves dryness and replaces natural oils. It absorbs quickly into the scalp and leaves it feeling smooth, refreshed and shiny too.

I'll have to give the Jergen's product a try. My dome can use some color this time of the year. I stopped using other products because of the un-natural orange color they gave my dome. Thanks for mentioning the Jergen's.

That is all I use.  Its in a big bottle...with a pump on the top and I just open up the door ....take one hit...rub it in and off I go.  I only use it once a day...and taht is on my way out the door going to work.

I've used Aloe Vera products after bad sunburns on the beach.
I've never used it on my head.
Makes a lot of sense, since aloe vera has soothing properties.

....and the extra bonus, that blinding "shine"! O0
You use it once a day, but does the "shine" last all day?

Got to get some of that stuff and that awesome "lighthouse" glow.

Yelp the shine last all day long.  I am constantly getting comments on what type of buffer I use.  Usually I get this later at night...especially on Friday nights at the local basketball games.  It will have been 12 hours later..and the noggin is still shinning...Hell a bottle of that will last for ever....I have a 24 oz bottle in the fridge and it only cost me like 3 bucks..Banana Boat I believe is the brand of it....but any off brand will work to if it is 100% pure aloe.

Here are some day 1 pictures showing my white head...

I applied the lotion 3 times yesterday and will do that again today - morning, mid afternoon and at night.

(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm3.static.flickr.com%2F2412%2F2128639103_8da8a985d3.jpg&hash=62e7f2c0d652ff13463daf38f12285dcb032cc3c)

Today is day two and I don't see any changes, although the package clearly states it takes 3-4 days for your skin to begin getting darker and a week for the full effect.  Being this gradual is probably the best thing, actually.

I'll take more pics tonight at the end of day 2.

Thanks for the close up scraped dome shots...looks awesome..you're diggin the whole bald head thing, huh?

just be patient on the head color thing ...my wife still refers to my first razor shave as the "blue period"..not too pretty at first ..

but shortly after a truly bald skinned head...perfect...

just hold tight bro..and keep shavin it clean...the rest will catch up! O0

I could use some "natural color" during the winter season.
I wonder if this product actually works.
ncblue, do you have another update on this product?
You other guys, are there other self-tanning products out there that you could recommend?

Yea, I'm still at it...Today the head is def darker, but still not where I'd like it to be after 5 days of using the lotion.  It does seem to be working, so I'm feeling pretty good about it right now.

I bought the "medium", maybe I should have bought the "darker" version??  I'm sure glad I didn't get the "light skin tone" bottle...

I'll post pics again tonight.

Looks good bro....I bought my bottle yesterday.  I think it will be a good product.  So are you still putting it on right after you shave or waiting a while?  I think it stings a tad bit if you do it right after so I wait a while before putting any one.

Title: Re: Jergens Natural Glow Lotion

I'm waiting a while after I shave to put it on.  I'm using it twice a day now that I'm back at work and will go back to 3 times a day this weekend (another 4 day weekend!).

I think it will work to reduce the shadow.  I don't mind the shadow at all.  I hate the definitive tan line I have around my head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to dry the darker shade this weekend as well.  I realize I need to get the top of my head DARKER then my forehead for this line to dis-appear....

I just looked in the mirror in our big bathroom here at work.  The room has ample light and the mirror is large.  My head is looking much, much darker and I am very, very pleased with the product so far.

If I can get it a shade or two darker, I think it will be perfect, considering it's wintertime.

Please don't let my wife know I'm talking about this stuff like this.  Around here, I'm supposed to be a tough guy, not the type of guy that talks about Jergens lotion, LOL...

Rob, I suggest you steer clear of self-tanners. They all come with warnings about keeping it away from your eyes. Not sure if the Jergens has this warning.
It's probably ok if you use it a few times to even out the white winter dome or after the first headshave. I just wouldn't make a habit of using that stuff over a prolonged period of time.

Yeah, thanx, Tyro: after some thought I've begun to realise how much trouble I'd have to go to applying the stuff.  Not really bothered much by a white dome, its pretty even in colour after shavin for a year and a few months.  think I'll stick with what I got, and wait for the sun to come back! O0

Title: Re: Jergens Natural Glow Lotion
Post by: Timmay on January 08, 2008, 09:16:40 PM
I dont see anything wrong with using it everyday.  Its not like those other self tanners.  It basically is a lotion to soften the skin and to moisturize.  I dont think I could use those self tanners everyday cause that stuff just gets nasty.  With this lotion you get 3 different levels.  One is for fair skinned people where it just barely gives you some color.  The 2 is for medium toned skin.....and 3 is for darker toned.  All this does it blends with your natural color of your face.  YOu can use it on your whole body if you want.
I just think its an A-OK product....

I bought some of the Wal-Mart brand of this stuff and I saw an immediate difference.  I tried the medium tone. It's been working great.

Mojim, not to burst your bubble, dude, (just maybe a blister or two  ;) ) but the tube of Jergens that I have in front of me, says real clearly (in 0.05 font in dark brown on lighter brown background) on the back side, the fifth sentence under WARNINGS, "This product does not contain sunscreen and does not protect against sunburn."  OUCHIE MAMMA!!!
So, don't go blaming Jergens.  All this stuff is, is a moisturizing cream with chemicals to give you a fake tan, and "that's all folks". @c3  Oh, by the way, if you are at sea level, you can try SPF 15, but for altitude add about 2.5 for every 1000 feet.  Now you know why skiers cook their skin at altitude (and they think it's only wind burn) :*))

Jergens user here and I've been using it for a week.  I'm naturally  tan but when I shaved my head for the first time last Monday, my scalp was white!  After a week it sure has made quite a difference.  Scalp is not the same color as my skin, but it getting close.  O:O

When the summer hits, I'll use it conjunction with Neutrogena Dry Touch SPF 55 which I already use on my face and arms.  I like it cuz it's not greasy like most other sunblocks so it doesn't look like you're wearing anything.

Mojim, my apologies.   :-[  I didn't think they would market different versions! :/O  You would think they'd give us the same thing up here at altitude where we need it! :D

That's one of the reasons I don't like SPF's. I hate the grease.
This Neutrogena stuff sounds great. How expensive is it?

Hey Rafter, I buy it for about $4 at Walmart and it lasts a long time since a little goes a long way.  The lotion itself is white, but as you spread it out and absorbs into your skin, it disappears and it looks as if you're not wearing any lotion.  They have up to SPF70 as well.  Give it a shot.

Hi, in the uk it is johnsons summer glow, but i have tried it both shades went orange. I have heard Loreal fake tan gel is very good , going to try that, and 1 called fantastic daves, or something like that. Years ago inthe 60s used a pill that gave u a lovelly tan but they banned it, tried the 1 with beta carrotene but that did not work. Fed up with sunbeds, takes ages to tan. Some tan wipes are okay but u keep using them and u look a dirty orange.

BEWARE!  I've use it and, although the results were ok by me, it will stain your furniture, pillow case, etc.  So, I advise putting it on in the AM when you'll be upright for a while.  GLTA.

Also, if you use it on other parts of your body where there are joints  :px (like your elbows- get your minds out of the gutter for just a moment please   :/O ...Timmayyy, thank you)  ^-^ your elbows (or knees, or heel/Achilles, etc) will have a tenancy to get darker quicker.  I believe the active ingredient pools where the skin is more dry.  @nn!3
