Yes, I applied a year ago online. It went ok, but took awhile for processing. Love getting that deposit every month!

I had a social security office near me and applied there . Applying over the computer should be fine. But either way they say to apply a few months in advance, not sure how long though. I applied early at 62 , now almost 77 and have no complaints. Was lucky and had an early buyout and a decent pension.

Started Social Security @ 66. A wonderful program that we funded for many years. There are many stories out there that indicate this program will have major problems by 2035. We can only hope that the politicians we vote for are watching our backs. VOTE WISELY.

No, their website is probably very secure. As long as you're not using insecure Wi-Fi.

That would be anywhere the public can login to wifi. I would only use my home Wi-Fi that is password protected.

I applied for social security a week ago and I was wondering how long it took for you guys to hear if you were approved or not and if you had to give them any extra documents.

I think it took a couple weeks. You can check the progress online. Mine got screwed up because I entered my Medicare number wrong. Then I think it's 2 months to get your first check.

As I remember the process, Red Dog seems correct.

As I remember the process, Red Dog seems correct. I had no problems that I recall , nor my wife.

I am going down to the social security office myself - "in persona".  I NEVER allow my personal financial matters to be discussed /sent over the internet in any way.  They are NEVER secure.  - read your ISP user agreement!!!

IO have also learned that the USPS is no longer reliable and that literacy is no longer a requirement for its employees.  I have been getting the personal social\security statements, medical insurance EOB's and real estate tax bills of many of my neighbors in Illinois delivered to my home in Florida.  I have thrice written to the Postal Inspector general by certified mail and have yet to receive any response.  I have twice written certified letters to my local postmistress and the other day she and the zone inspector arrived uninvited at my front door - she said that they didn't know how to contact me because they didn't have a telephone number for me!!!!!  I told them - you are the Postal Service - Ever hear of writing a letter???????"??
