So I invested £15 in a wahl clipper and I was deeply disapointed with how short it cuts compared to my last one.
I just want to know which clippers have got the shortest zero cut? I hope you understand what I mean, I just want a clipper that gets as close to a razor shaved length as possible.
Thank you!
-
why not just shave it?
it's easy, reliable, fun:d
-
Yeah I will try it out but I don't know... I quess I just want to check my alternatives

aim to the shave!
it rulz, trust me :P

Listen to Paul...BBC rulz!

Okay I'm going to do it, I've bought a razor/cream/moisturizer from Amazon all for under £20. So they should come around Saturday/Monday so once they come I'll get down to it. Thanks for replies even though neither of you acutely recommended a set of clippers! ;D
-
it may look like an ..antourage, but trust me! you'll just love it :)
and, if you're afwaid, visit the barber for the first time, it's the way I did it, and it gave me confidence
Just remember to share with us the feeling of being free :)
-
I think I'm more excited than scared, I mean I'm used to have a zero buzz cut for past 4 years but their is a big difference between a razor cut and a clipper cut and I just hope my head doesnt get too cold during this winter! ^-^ Yes I'll be sure to tell you how it goes, thanks.
-
Congrads on taking the plunge.
I have had best results using a razor, I have use the Gillette Mach 3 and the Gillette Fusion. I have laso tried the headblade which is a good raxor but takes some time to get used to.
I have a Wahl balding electric razor which I have tried as well as a con-air clean head shaver.
I truly prefer a regular razor with shaving cream etc.
Hope that You enjoy your new sly look.
:)
-
Ok, so can I consider myself the one who "dragged' you on this road?:D
joke:D
well done, congratz :)
share some pics with us asap:D

I'd like to jump in here. Nobody has really answered the original question. Which clipper clips to the shortest length.
I bring this up for a reason. Last night, I met some friends at a restaurant. A mom and dad, their daughter and her boyfriend. The boyfriend looked shaved bald ... but as I talked, he said, no, this was just clippers. I really want to shave bald or find a barber who will do a razor cut. Well, the barber across the street does them! So I gave the reference. (thank you, he said). I could not talk too long, but I was really curious, which clipper he's using to cut that close. With my wahl, when I clip to no guard, I don't look that short. Maybe I need to adjust the blades on my clipper. Maybe different clippers had different minimum lengths. I think this was the original question.
I'll agree with the current discussion ... why not just shave and be done with it. But along the way, or perhaps if your blades are all worn down and you want a very close buzz ... which clipper would do the best job? Which would be closest to sly?
I think that was the question. So, let's discuss.
-
So what did the boyfriend say.?
-
He didn't. I did not have time to ask that question. We were with OUR group and they THEIRS and I did not want to monopolize the conversation. We only had a few minutes to chat while waiting for tables.
Now, I did google and found this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFukQ6W54PY
The barber mentions using a #000 clipper and www.andis.com. Looks like they make professional clippers .... and lots of blade choices in various guages. Wahl also seem to have some 'trimmer' blades which might be shorter than their standard clipper blades. Maybe that's the answer. But it looked like some of their trimmer blades only fit some clippers, not all.
-
The Andis looks like a quality machine and with the "00000" should be pretty close. I'd say .1mm is very close, whatcha think?
-
Not that I was looking for much for Christmas, but my cousin surprised me with a set of Andis clippers just like in the barbershop! I was excited because this is a good alternative for the next couple of weeks until I can use the razor again! Most importantly, I can trim my own facial hair...looks like my barber may be out of a job this coming year....
-
Sir Harry,
Glad that you found something that works well for You. I have a wahl bald clippers but have not used it much. The Panasonic wet/dry shave razors work great too.
:)
-
Thanks, baldjoeg! I used the Andis and they cut pretty close I must say! I have the "horseshoe" picture showing now, but will post a new shaved picture soon!

In April '09 I purchased the Andis gbrc model of clipper and back then started with a 3.5 blade for a buzz cut look. Over the past 2.5 years I've gone shorter and shorter and just purchased the .00000 Andis ceramic blade. This cuts to 1/125 of an inch or .2mm (nearly but not entirely bald). My routine is shave cream and Headblade up to the crown and then the top with the aforementioned clipper blade to leave just a little stubble. Then I repeat this every 2-3 days. I've also gone full SLY at times depending on my mood. Quite liberating as I haven't paid for a haircut in nearly 3 years and on top of that get a 98% approval rating on my look, which now includes a goatee as well. Best of luck to you.

Seen the Andis and it looks top of the line. It should give a close buzz if'n that's whatcha want.

I use the conair clenahead, review my review on the forums if you wish, good set of clipers

philips headgroom

I was using the Conair them switched to the Panasonic which was closer yet. Recently I went to the Fusion after the Panny and it's the best I've had. Dome is super slick now. :@`

I bought a couple of weeks ago this nice device that will shave you bald and almost down to a shine level . I will admit its wquicker to use a razor . This is not bad at all and will show skin and smoothness its a Phillips Balder there is a nice You tube video of it made in france . It is battery operated d and rechargeable , thought it would be good for travelling which is a porblem to keep up my high standards of head grooming and smoothness . It will cut incrementally from a No2 down to what must be 0000.

They shave all your hair down to the equivalent of a day's worth of hair growth that would come form a razor shaved head!SO these are the BEST to buy! Here's a link! Plus READ THE GREAT REVIEWS!

welcome!

Thanks Derris ; Think i`ll give them a try . . .

you're welcome sir!

For the closest shave with a clipper you need the balding ones. Wahl 5 star is the best

These look like good clippers with a powerful motor...I always read reviews too, especially the 2 stars.
-
I recently came across the Wahl 5-Star Razor Edger Trimmer. They have really small blades and the clipper seems powerful enough to clipper both face and hair. I might order a pair of these

-
Being powered by an electric motor (not a vibrator) will give it more power...and there are blades that won't cut the skin to look for.
-
I have been using these beard trimmer clippers on my head on and off for 2 years now. My avatar is a pic taken today freshly shaved using these. They get pretty close but i feel there are ones out there that will get closer. Clippers are the only thing that doesn't cause my skin irratation. If i use a razor or electric razor on my face/head i just break out.

I was thinking about getting these, but have read mixed reviews on them

I have been using the Wahl Balding Clippers and from more than 8-10 away I still look bald.
-
Anyone found the Phillips headgroom (balder) in a store anywhere, or can they only be ordered online? Target's got a good deal on them, but they're only available online.
-
I have the Phillips balder and it's not that great to be honest.
-
HI Doctor X,
I ordered mine on line on Amazon.com. I have been fairly happy with it. I have used it on in between days and found out that it worked pretty well.
I have shaved daily in the past but found it works better to use the electric razor on alternating days and regular razor shaving on the alternate days. It helps with the skin bump issue.
I do prefer using a regular hand razor over the electric for the most part.
-
Ok, thanks for the feedback. I'm mostly looking for something to use when I'm in a hurry and don't have time for a razor shave.
-
Wahl 5 star balding clipper is what you want
-
I've seen doctors use these on patients and they appear to work brilliantly and cut very close. Might be the best bet for those wanting something as close to sly as possible without using a razor:
http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/IPD-NA/3M-Infection-Prevention/products/catalog/?N=4294948254+5543862&Nr=AND%28hrcy_id%3AGSQC62GWF1gs_JRRDFWWQDC_N2RL3FHWVK_GPD0K8BC31gv%29&rt=d
They're available on amazon.com for about $120, might be worth looking into.
-
Ok, thanks for the feedback. I'm mostly looking for something to use when I'm in a hurry and don't have time for a razor shave.
Up until recently, I was using a trimmer with no guard. I am now shaving with a Gillette Mach III stick razor and find that I am shaving quicker. It is much easier to tell if I miss a spot, too.
-
I've been using Wahl's balding clippers for about 10 years and they have been rock solid. I keep them oiled and hope they will last me another decade as I don't think my hair is coming back. After all of these years they still get me to an almost bald length. Good enough for me.
For travel I purchased the norelco rechargeable ones with the vacuum built in ... they work very well too (for what I bought them for), however I don't think they cut as low as my wahl's. The Norelcos are really convenient and help keep the hair from getting all over the place. (especially nice in someone else's house)
All in all if I want the closest shave that will last the longest I'll use a razor (very seldom, maybe once a year), my 'go to' is my wahl and if I don't have time to use my wahl I grab the norelco to cut my hair on the road.
-
I use the Wahl clippers also.
-
I have a Babiliss i-Stubble (one of the basic old ones without LCD display, can't remember the model no.) that I use on my face and head alike. Compared to most proper hair clippers I've used in the past it delivers a very close buzz, hard to tell from a headshave unless you look up real close. I got over two years of service out of my first one, more than I'd have expected considering that it isn't designed to cut head hair, besides at about £20 off Amazon it's fairly inexpensive to replace.
-
I use the Andis BGRC with interchangeable blades. I have #1; #0A; #000; #00000 & #000000(outliner), as I like to have varying degrees of stubble or be more closely "clippershaved" at different times. I occasionally razor shave also. The #000 leaves 1 day's stubble; #00000 leaves about 10 hours' worth of stubble (1/125" or 0.2mm) and the outliner leaves about 4 hours' stubble (1/150" or 0.1mm). I find that most "non-head-shaving" people consider anything #1 & below as 'shaved", although I really think of my head as "clippershaved" when I use either #00000 or the #000000(outliner). With the #00000 or #000000(outliner) I looked razor shaved except close up (my hair is mostly white also). I also like the #0A, which leaves about 2.5 days' stubble, but it snags my skin and cuts my scalp. The #0A would be a nice alternative between #000 & #1, but I have given up on it. All my blades are the ceramic style except the #000000 (outliner). I may try a #0A ultraedge - all steel - and see if this nicks me less. None of the other ceramic blades have ever nicked me, and I am pretty aggressive in using them to get as close a clippershave as I can.

Hey there,
Been a while since I've posted on this site, but here's my two cents:
When I first started shaving my head 5-6 years ago, I bought a Wahl Peanut which served me faithfully up until a week ago. It's a great little buzzer - very powerful and manueverable. After 2 or 3 replacement blades, it finally gave up the ghost when I plugged it into a 240V European outlet :/O
Because my balding has gotten more pronounced over the years, I decided to investigate a few replacement buzzers, namely the Andis T-Outliner and Wahl Balding Clippers. After speaking with the guy at the store, I decided to go with the Andis for a few reasons:
1) Smaller, lighter and easier to handle
2) Closer cut than the Peanut (but perahps not as close as the Wahl)
3) Wide blade, making it arguably faster to cut your hair
I gave it a go yesterday and was very happy with the results - powerful, and a very close cut. Only cut myself once which I was scared about going with these shorter blades.
Here's a pic of the results, a day later.
-
Not bad. Looks pretty good.
-
Welcome back, Robbie, thanks for sharing!

I have been trying to wet shave with the HeadBlade & Gillette Fusion for a few months but I am having too many issues with razor burn so I would prefer to use clippers as I have no razor burn issues with them. I even tried using foil shavers designed for shaving beards but again the razor burn was shocking. I have previously used the Wahl Balding clippers but I never really thought that they cut as close as people say and they don't allow you to change blades. Having looked into it the 000000 blade on the Wahl Balding clippers actually only cuts to 0.4mm. Surely there has to be clippers that cut shorter than that? I thought I heard somewhere that there is an Andis Blade that cuts as short as 0.1mm and it can even be attached to other brands of clippers like the Oster 76. I live in Ireland so Andis and Oster products are hard to find over here but I wonder if any of you guys over in America can shed any light on this?

You tried going with the grain, very slowly? I'd avoid going against the grain if I was you.
-
You tried going with the grain, very slowly?
Yeah I have tried pretty much everything, but I don't mind that sandpaper finish that comes with using clippers, I just wanna make sure I'm getting the shortest clipper cut possible why is why I am keen to find out more about this Andis 0.1mm blade that is compatible with the Oster 76 clipper. Everyone keeps saying the Wahl Balding clippers are the shortest possible clipper cut but that is certainly not the case as it uses a 0.4mm blade.
-
I got my Oster 97 (UK equivalent to the Oster 76) clippers and the Andis #000000 Outliner 0.1mm blade today. Although it does indeed cut close, it didn't blow me away as it didn't seem much closer than the Wahl Balding clippers with their 0.4mm blade and I had kind of expected their to be a noticeable difference in that 0.3mm gap between the two.
-
I have been intrigued by the Wahl Balding Clippers for a while now after hearing the positive reviews. They eventually came today, I probably had about 5 days growth, so decided to give them a whirl. They are a superb clipper, very well made and feel solid in the hand. The cut is very nice as well, I'd say probably the same length as 36 hours after shaving BBS. This doesn't bother me as I quite like the sand paper look. Here is a photo after I had just finished. (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F13%2F05%2F10%2Fy8uquhuj.jpg&hash=1309f419d843530c031101a54b3441b354a8679a)

As you can see it is quite short and there is zero irritation. They are a great alternative for people who suffer from irritation used from a razor.
-
I think the clipper works well and cuts the hair close to the scalp,
is an alternative to wet shave in the case of skin irritation. 8)

Just ordered the Wahl Balding Clippers today. I saw plenty of positive reviews on here to help me make the purchase.
I have a question: Are any of you having problems being cut by the blades? I was reading the reviews on amazon and there were complaints of that. Are these people just newbies or what?
Thanks!
-
I have them and never cut myself with them. It is important to oil the cutting blades every now and then.
-
Thanks for the reply! How often would you recommend oiling them? Also, would you recommend oiling them right out of the box or should I wait?
I've always used clippers, just figured it was time for an upgrade, so I'm by no means a new head shaver here. Some of the reviews on there scared me.
-
I used mine right out of the box with no issues. I also oiled the blades around twice a month.
-
Just got the Walh Balding Clippers. THEY ARE AWESOME!!!
I can't be happier with the purchase.
100% Recommended.
-
I agree with you they are awesome. I am very happy with mine.
-
I ordered one on Amazon. I'll be curious to see if it reduces my shave time.
-
Please update us when you use them. I suspect you will like them.

Hello gents, i just wanted to say a big hello to everyone at the forum - i've spent the good part of today lounging around reading up on this stuff, its an absolute goldmine of info around here, thank you ! Its about time i got around to taking care of my beloved bald head..
To stay on topic i just have a quick question - i see the Wahl Balding Clipper is highly recommended but i was wondering if anyone had experience with the Wahl Detailer (T-Blade?) ? I've read it can get closer than the Baldings.
Also i wonder if anyone knows how much or if skin is stripped when you use these trimmers opposed to clean shaving with a blade ?
This would be a big help, many thanks in advance O0

Wahl Balding Clipper
Seriously thinking of buying one. Having tried shaving my head i still prefer the rough look / feel. I use my beard trimmer to shave my head but it still not cutting close enough. Is the Wahl the best out there? I use the beard trimmer without the guard and i dont think it is cutting that close.

Do they come with oil? If not, which oil to get? Ta

They cut very close and come with oil.
Go for it :)

Cheers

Still comfused on what to buy.. I used to shave my head with Gilette Fusion over 3 years. But a want a reliable device that can cut both my hair and face close to 0,1 (like 1-2 days after shaved). What do you suggest me to purchase? Wahl Balding or Philips QC5580? (anyone tested the second one?)
I want a all in one device.. If I want a close to razor cut, to a 0,1-0,3 option + the face cut.
Plus I want a fast haircut, faster than razor which takes me 30-40 minutes in both straight+against the grain.
-
I've told you already, the Philips will do everything you require O0 O0
-
Hello i need Help :-) will the Andis 000000 0.1 mm fist on my Oster 97-44. if yes the trimmer 0.mm or outliner 0.1mm
Thanks
-
The Oster Blades 76 will fit on Oster 97-44 ?
-
It is a great clipper. The blades are really sharp so you just need to be careful when using it.
-
i can use all that clipper
wahl balding
andis bgr+ with 000000 blade
on the face to shave it
or that only for head
-
You can use it anywhere you like.
-
Guys, i do shave the head but i do prefer the use a shaver. Still not found one that shaves as close as possible.
Need one that shaves ultra close without having to use a blade!!
-
Koolpc, I use a Remington F5790 three blade foil shaver. Gets it very smooth, without any irritation for me.

Cheers!
Like your goatee!!

Hi all,
I'm trying to decide between the Wahl Balding clipper and the Andis Experience (with ceramic blade).
Is one any closer than the other?
thanks
-
Hi,
I have the Wahl Balding Clippers and they cut close 000000. I have also been considering the Andis GTX as they are smaller and lighter.
But
I have just purchased some Wahl Detailers, as I heard good reviews and they work over here in the UK on 220v
I let you know how they compare when I receive the delivery :)
-
**UPDATE** :@`
My Wahl Detailers arrived yesterday and I immediately set the blades to a zero overlap using the enclosed setting tool!
Today was my first opportunity to try them out. I am very impressed with the results.
They cut closer than my Wahl Balding clippers (WBC) which is what I wanted. They are less powerful than the WBC, but
are powerful for their size and is more than adequate. Their small form factor makes them super manoeuvrable, plus their
light weight and then design is a massive bonus over the WBC's.
The only criticism is the size of the T blade, namely 3.5cm. I bought the newer version with the uprated screw retaining holes
and as such expected it to come with the T Double Wider blade. I think this blade is only available with this kit in the US. I'm
in the UK. Balding my head took longer than with the WBC's, which wasn't a major problem as I wasn't in a hurry. If time is a
factor, then the WBC's will come out. I'm also tempted to get hold of a T Double Wider blade.
Does anyone know the exact size of a T Double Wider blade, I know its not twice the size of the standard t blade.?????????? O0
The unit is well made and shapes up the lines nicely.
I was nearly put off purchasing these detailers when I saw this Mad Yank on his Youtube Video talking about cutting kids!!>> See below and either amuse yourself or
cringe. :*))

So, these cut extremely close?
-
Yes very. But I Zero gapped them from the get go, so not sure how close they cut out of the box. My that YouTube video will answer that ;D
-
Looking for something cut the closest. Easy to zero gap them? Better than the Baldfader?
-
Easy to zero gap as comes with a setting tool. Not sure about the baldfaders..
Try and get the T wider blade. 2215 if you want to speed up the Balding process O0
-
Not bothered about speed. Just need a super close shave. Not fussy with wet shaving
