Title: Bald in the Winter
Post by: chuck63 on November 18, 2018, 04:56:22 AM
I’ve been bald by choice during the past three summers.   It’s a great feeling and I like the look.  I normally keep a buzz cut during the winter.   If my hair is cut too close, my head tends to get cold.  I don’t like wearing hats.   Does anyone else have a problem with a cold head in the winter?

This is going to be my first winter shaved bald. Let see if I can handle it.

I don't like hats either (and is a crime hide a perfectly smooth head)

Are you kidding me Chuck! I live in Minnesota. Yes, a bald head is very cold. I hate to wear hats too, but definitely needed. What bugs me is that stocking hats don't want to stay on a shaved head. I have a hat with fur on the inside and a strap under the chin.

i do.i am not bald by choice. i have very little hair on the rest of my head,so i shave it off.i can feel the cool breeze in the warm weather and the cold breeze in the cold months.but it is worth it on how having a shaved head all the time makes me feel good about my self.i will either wear a cap or a winter hat in the winter to keep me healthy.

I will say ,it can get a little chilly but I wear a hat and I give everyone around a surprise when I take off my hat and show off my nice, bald head! If I am going somewhere where it is cold, I don't shave for a day so my hat has some "stubblr" to stick to. Good luck! It's worth being chilly until you get indoors or snuggle with your special someone!

I wear a beanie while outside but take it off when inside to show off my shaved head.

Yes the cold is felt by a shaved head. I personally am a hat person, both in the cold and in the hot sun.

I notice the cold too.  I prefer to sacrifice style for comfort and where a cap in cold weather. As soon as I go inside, it comes off.

I always hated hats when I had here because they’re always mess up my hair and it always looked horrible so  I never wore one
but now with the shaved head hat goes on just great, no hair gets messed up, so having a nice soft stocking cap in my pocket that I can pull on whenever and feels so nice on my clean shaven skin has lsolved my hst-hate  problem and keep me healthy

I am not a hat person either, but I still like my smooth head in the winter.  Fortunately for me, I have a job that is 90% in the office, and I live in South Louisiana with mild winters.  I do wear a hat if I intend to spend a lot of time outdoors on a cold day.

I live in Finland and the winters here are freezing, already feeling it in my bbs scalp.
Having a winter coat with a hood is a good alternative to a hat. The days when I don't feel like wearing a hat I just put on the hood when outside, then obviously take it off when not out in the cold.

cold sucks. but cold and windy really sucks. #1 defense: hoodie.  #2 some form of Beanie Hat. And be prepared to loose a few.

It's that time of year again! It was 11degrees this morning, so I guess it's time to get the winter hats out again. A cold head is really the only complaint I have about wearing a shaved head. I think I'll try growing my hair out to at least a buzzcut. See if I can go more than a week or two before I can't stand it!

I can feel the artic wind, as my arthritis howls throughout this aging bod.
With that  said, it’s HAT TIME.
Of course, as soon as I enter a temperature controlled indoors, it comes off and I become SLY MAN(without cape).

Twenty degrees here this morning with a heavy frost.  My wife found an alpaca beanie for me at our local farmers market.  It was expensive, but it's really warm.  Alpaca is soft, but dense, so it's comfortable and wind doesn't cut through it.

I live outside of Toronto and yes the Fall and winter can get very cold. I hate when it's cold because I can't show off my shaved head when I'm outside. On the other hand, I've been able to collect toques. As soon as I get inside, the toque gets removed.

So far I'm up to about 6 toques and the warmest toque I've gotten so far is the one I got in New York City last year with the "I Heart NY" logo.

I see this thread is still alive.  Luckily our winters are relatively mild in the south.

Living in phoenix, we have relatively mild winter so hat's arent necessary during the day, thankfully, as I normally only like to wear one at work where its required, or if out in hot sun of summer for several hours. But winter nights and early mornings, oh boy that's another story. Bitter cold, sometimes even colder than Michigan, where my step mother lives, by a few degeees, at least early morning. That is, once we get deep into winter. Right now it's still just a mild chill at night and comfy warm during the day.

That's what's different about most of us sly guys, as alot of you stated, the hat comes off as soon as you go inside. After spending all that time washing, lathering, and shaving that head perfectly smooth, you surely don't want to hide it! Show off that bald head!

One advantage of living in South Louisiana.  The high today is 78 F.  But we are expecting our first freeze tomorrow night.  I rarely need hats or beanies, and can leave the skin on full display most days.

Yes, slybeard, about 10 years ago I lived just east of Pensacola, and the weather was mild in November. I couldn't stand the summer heat. I had nearly shoulder length hair then. Maybe I should have shaved my head, but never considered it then. My neighbor and good friend was the first person I knew well that sported a shaved head. I always thought he looked great!

It's pretty mild here in Southern California but it's gets cold when the sun is not out. 80 today.
I still bought a beanie. I am more worried about getting sunburned than the cold

I live in wisconsin and it gets very cold here in the winter. lately the high has been in the upper twenties and the lows in the teens, their has been some nights where the over night lows have been in the single digits and with the wind chill it has been below zero which is not normal, reddog knows what I am talking about he lives in minnesota I think.

Yes, Scooby, quite cold here in Minnesota! A couple things but me when the cold comes. A stocking hat will not stay on my head when shaved. If I'm going to be outside during the day, I wait to shave, as even one day of stubble will hold the hat on. Another thing, my head will get cold while sleeping with the heat set to 67 at night. I wear a hoodie to  bed so I can pull the hood up.

I'll wear those in Philly where the winters get f'ing cold. If I go into a bar, etc, like that and eventually take it off. I always get a few extra long stares. I know what they're thinking: 'holy sh*t I didn't know you were bald.'

Amazing how the beanie hides my bald ass head.

Chris, your post reminds me of a time I walked into a bar and removed my hat upon entering. When I eat at the bar, a guy and his wife came over to me and said they noticed my shaved head right away. They really thought it looked great, and asked several questions. They asked how I liked it, if it felt good, and what I used to shave and how often. The guy had thinning hair, and said he he was going to give it a try. I love when you remove your hat and get noticed!

that happens to me a lot. Esp. if I enter a place and keep the cap on for a while before taking it off. The biggest reactions come from a strangers, who you may be talking to for a while before the reveal.
