Title: An ode to the HeadBlade
Post by: socctty on February 20, 2007, 07:19:42 PM
I wasn't really sold on the HeadBlade until tonight. Two nights ago, on only my third occasion using the HeadBlade, I was able to shave in the shower, by feel alone, and get a great shave. I was impressed a bit, but not completely sold on the idea of using it exclusively.

Tonight I figured that if I could shave with a headblade on touch alone, surely I could do so with a much more familiar Mach3 razor.

I was able to go on feel... because I could FEEL where it shredded my damn scalp! I was going WITH the grain, and still wasn't getting a clean and consistent shave. I threw the Mach3 down after 2 minutes and grabbed the HeadBlade and went back over things and got a slick shave.

Never again. Never. Again.

I swear, the Mach3 did more damage this time around, with the grain and fresh blades, than the HeadBlade did on my first try EVER.

I've learned my lesson.

As a relative newbie to being sly, I did a lot of reviewing before deciding on what razor to use. I settled on HeadBlade products from Day 1 and have nicked my dome only rarely. To me, it's like using a comb and styling your "hair" in a comb-back. There are more chances for cutting your dome with a regular razor.

But what do I know, I'm just a dumb bald guy.
Cheers,
Schro

I love the headbalde wouldn't shave with anything else.... as you are all aware I just bought my frist house, well I'm going to need to make the shower a little bigger and when I do I want to have a mirror build into the tile is that a good Idea?

As long as you still have enough room for the beer taps, you should be fine.

I've been shaving with my headblade, in the shower, by feel only (haven't gotten around to getting a fog free mirror yet) since July and it is the ONLY razor I'll ever use on my head again.  O0

Welcome to the club.  O:O

Me too, I looked at doing it, when I remodeled our bathroom, but wasn't doing the shower, and getting the wires through would have been a pita.  One day maybe.

Dude, I was relatively new to the whole idea of headshaving, but I new about the headblade and ordered it online.  But for that first week, I had to use the Mach3... Nothing against it, it does a great job on my beard and face, but to tell you the truth, the shave was NEVER consistant, it was never THAT smooth [so smooth that you can't wait for the first pair of female fingers to slide across it], and it would on occasion nick the back of my head.  Now, with the HeadBlade, the shave is consistant, all around SMOOTH, and best of all, no nicks and no cuts... and all in about half the time.  I would not use anything other than my HeadBlade Sport on that shizzle!

Good suggestion.  Did the same thing, glad I did, got a nick or two but only because I needed to learn to handle it Took a little getting used to but can't get as close or stay close longer with any other blade.

remember to keep pressure on the back of the headblade.

remember to keep pressure on the back of the headblade.

THAT is the key. Whether it's the Sport model with the wheels or the Classic with the little plastic nub, you can't emphasize enough the importance of keeping pressure on the back of the Head Blade. After I went running today, I shaved the head and I could have set a record on how quickly I did it, all without cutting my head. I'm guessing I'm gaining confidence in my technique, but I can't imagine doing a more effective job with anything except a HeadBlade.

What kind of blade are you guys using? I like the idea of it, but the damn cartridges clog with hair so easily that I spend more time trying to clean the thing than shaving. Since I've graduated to using pieces of broken glass and old rusty razor blades. Now thats a closness you can feel, especially around the neck.

How often are you shaving?  I don't seem to be getting any clogging at all, but I shave every day.

I use the triple blade.  Sounds like your a sink shaver.  This was discussed in another topic but can't remember where.  Best advice: shave in the shower.

Another good point. Using the water from the shower head helps get the lather & stubble out from the HB razor much better than tapping it in the sink.

I am a sink shaver myself, and find that that is a pretty big problem as well, keeping the Blades from Clogging up.  Since Switching to HeadSlick I have Noticed that it is easier to keep them clear.  The fact is that I would kill to be able to shave in the shower, but I am one of those that Needs to Shave in front of a Mirror.  Untill I get underway, and get a place of my own, I think I am just going to have to innovate a good way to keep the Blades clear.

I too use the HeadBlade and love it.  I use the Alta blades and an old toothbrush to clean it out (yes, I'm a sink shaver).  Water at full blast and one swipe from side to side with the brush and the razor looks and cuts like new.  I must be behind the curve because it's taken me a week to to get the hang of it.

From what it sounds like, you are at the head of the class... I am going to have to try that whole Toothbrush Idea.   Welcome By the way.  it takes some time as usual to get used to the whole HeadBlade thing, but once you do, its like riding a Bike  C#)P

I finally remembered to pick up a fogless mirror.  One of those round ones with suction cups for in the shower.  EXCELLENT!!!  And the idea of having a mirror set in the tile work is a great one.  Actually I would put a couple in.
I use the sensor triple in my hb sport and we have terrible water pressure and I still don't have a problem with the blades clogging up.  Mind you I shave every day.
