Hey. I was wondering when you first started balding, if any of you felt a kinship with any of your idols who are also bald/balding. For me, it's Hunter S. Thompson.
In my opinion, some other pretty cool bald dudes are Larry David, Augusten Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Hulk Hogan, Jesse the Body Ventura, David Cross, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Mark Messier.
How about you? Who do you think are some pretty cool bald dudes that you look up to?
-
Avery"HAWK" Brooks, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Mel Blount, Michael Jordan ,and Telly Savalas(Who loves ya,baby!!)
-
Hulk always worse that bandanna to hide his baldness. I've got to go with the two men who made the shaved head cool and paved the way for all of us - Yule Brenner, Telly Savalas, and Michael Jordan.
-
Oops - that's three.
-
Michael Jordan, Hunter S. Thompson, David Cross, Bruce Willis, and Terry O'Quinn to name a few.
-
Neglected to mention George Foreman. Now that guy is the real deal....and speaking of real deals Evander Hollyfield.

Seal: Hello? Dude married Heidi Klum! He also has one of the most amazing voices ever
Pedro Cerrano: Shaving his head with a machete is just badass
Michael Chiklis: The modern day Telly Savalas, because I didn't grow up on Telly Savalas
Sean McDunough: One of my favorite sportscasters
-
I hope I'm not bumping this old topic :)
but mine are:
Vin Diesel
The Rock (I like his bald look, not his wresling stuff)
John Travolta (bald with beard)
Pitbull (the rapper)
-
I dont look up to people because they're bald. I just look down on men who aren't.
-
They say I look like Michael Rosenbaum, and I guess that's a nice look :)
-
well, I don't have any, but I like how "pitbull" performer looks :)
-
All those mentioned look good...Michael Jordan has been bbc longer than I have...I liked when Michael Stipes took the plunge and am sorry they broke up.
-

I never realized that Michael Jordan and Michael Stipes were an item. >:D
-
Micheal Jordan, 2Pac, DMX, Tyrese, Joe(R&B Singer) & Kevin Garnett. are my bald head idols O0 8) O:O ;D
-
Yul Brynner and Patrick Stewart
-
I don't have any idols. I will say this - Bruce Willis looks much better bald than when he had hair. Joe Satriani rocks the look as well. :)
-
I am totally surprised by that none of you mentioned Rob Halford. Is there anyone who is looking up to the Metal God? (Not necessarily and only because he is bald, but also because of his awesome voice and personality.)
-
Armando "Pitbull" Christian Pérez, rocks the look!
P@^
-
It's gotta be Telly Savalas. Dude was bald before bald was cool. Tootsie pop and all. Who loves you baby?
-

BaldRob :D
-
My celebrity inspirations are Yul Brynner, Chris Daughtry, Pitbull, Bruce Willis and Tyson Bedford. (There are still others but these guys are the first ones I can recall)
-
Joe Satriani (?) the guitarist.
-
I gotta say, Patrick Stewart, Micheal Chikles, Telly Savalas, and Yule Brynner
-
For me it was (and in no particular order) Chris Daughtry, Patrick Stewart, Andre Agassi, Mark Lizotte (Johnny Diesel)
-
I would have to go with Isaac Hayes, Steve Harvey, Howie Mandel, Common, John Salley, and honorable mention to Kareem Abdul Jabbar for going sly instead of keeping that donut hole...@Kalbo-Has anyone ever told you that you look like the Pittsburgh Steelers' Hines Ward? Just curious.
-
These are a couple of the looks Im going for:
(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsidefxproductions.net%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2010%2F07%2Fpitbull-photo1.jpg&hash=fbc4d918c9e9d4d93ef156f1569c69c0ddea0928)

-
In no particular order: Patrick Stewart, Billy Corgan, Seal, Bruce Willis, Lance Reddick, John Malkovich. To name a few.
-
Andre Agassi: for showing the world that bald is so much better than 80s hairstyles.
Vin Diesel: for shaving it off and actually being the SLY HERO in his movies instead of being a bald villain. And yes, I think he has some great movies (xXx, The Chronicles of Riddick, Babylon AD). Now we just need Nicolas Cage to just deal with it (the hairloss, not the Vin Diesel movies).
Zinedine Zidane: because if I could choose to look like one sly/buzzed person in this world, it would be him.
-
I have a whole bunch I must admit like the obvious e.g Daughtry, Vin Diesel, Ed Kowalcyk plus a bunch of Aussie AFL and Rugby League players like Gary Ablett Jnr, Nathan Jones and Mark Geyer. I think number 1 for me is Ami James of Miami Ink/NY Ink
-
Yul Brynner & Telly Savalas. They paved the way for us & made Sly cool at a time when it wasn't.
-

I agree and they both wore it well.
-
Agreed
-
I totally agree with snake handler. Both Telly Savalas and Yul Brunner were awesome and l;ooked great with the shaved dome.
-
I would definitely have to say Ami James. Shaved heads and tats just go perfectly together like pie and ice cream!
-
Bruce Gradkowski.
-
My bald idols:
Vin Diesel (actor), Kelly Slater(surfer), Michael Jordan(basketball player), Ami James (tattoo artist), Freddie Ljumberg and Zinedine Zidane (football/soccer players)
-
Pitbull was lookin' good last night on the TV...I bet lots of 305 guys will be shaving this year.
-
Patrick Stewart, Vin Diesel and Jamie Hyneman.
Jamie's also my beard idol.
-
Stone cold Steve Austin !
-

-
steve austin and vin diesel lol of curse
-
Definatly Bruce Willis and Michael Chiklis
-
Steve Wilkos too
-
I'm going old school and saying Richard Moll (Bull on Night Court).
-
The first time I really noticed a bald head was when I was younger, watching Michael Jordan fly and dunk, I'm a lot into basketball, bald and as MJ 6'6 in height (that's were similarities end,...... I can only show some pocket money :-[)
He is not the reason I started shaving myself almost two years ago as in the meantime the bald look has become popular, the reason was I started to loose hair, buzzed it at first and shaved it ever since.
-
oh of course the ROCK N hulk hogan haha
-
Let me add LLCoolJ O0
-
Almost forgot - Patrick Stewart
-
Mine is Vin Diesel
-
Chris Daughtry, The Rock, Michael Rosenbaum
-
The Buddha. I mean THE Buddha.
Do YOu Mean Buddha Shakhyamuni ? . We all have Buddhahood in our lives , 3000 realms in single moment of life at any one given time . Headshaving in Buddhism in some teachings is required if your a Bhikkhu and undertake 256 precepts . In some teachings its not required , some of us choose to be sly
-
Bald idol? For me it's Kelly Slater. O0
-
All the baseball players who sport the look.
-
Can't believe nobody said Jason statham. Seems to be a hugely confident guy who never let his hair loss affect him. Was a member of the British Olympic diving team, a model and now very successful actor
-
I like like Steve Austin too. Shaving his head benefitted his career. go to link to see a before pic.

Hi guys,
Great article in New York Times on headshaving and pics of bald celebs.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/19/fashion/head-shaving-making-the-most-of-nothing.html?_r=1
-
Obviously late on this, but thought I'd share mine:
Michael Jordan, The Rock, David Dramain(sp?), Jason Statham, Shaq, Sean Connery, Andre Agassi, Kelly Slater, Tyrese Gibson, Common, DMX (I know I repeated some but I agree)
-
Hi Bald Guy,
Thanks for the tip. I look forward to reading the article.
-
My celebrity inspirations are Yul Brynner, Chris Daughtry, Pitbull, Bruce Willis and Tyson Bedford. (There are still others but these guys are the first ones I can recall)
Yul Brynner was also my very first inspiration. He was the pioneer of gorgeous looking bald shaved men!! And now it is Mr. Kalbo!!!!
-
Well philippino men look amazin Sly

Thanks smoothshaver and Baldchav
-
Steve Austin for me, just wish i was pumped like him!
-
Terry O'Quinn - you know, Locke, from Lost
Patrick Stewart
Bruce Willis
O'Quinn/Locke and Stewart convey intelligence, depth, strength and leadership. I value and aspire to these qualities.
And Bruce Willis always looks like a bad@ss.
Ironically, none of my favorite bald guys have beards. I guess the bald, bearded look isn't much in demand in Hollywood. Meh. They'll come around. Maybe.

Isaac Hayes would be at the top of my bald/bearded list...it is becoming a little more common nowadays, however.
-
Bruce willis is a boss, Jude Law recently began embracing his baldness and still could get all of the ladies (though I know stardom makes this irrelevant).
@Bald Guy
"Shaving your balding head is like breaking up with someone before he or she can break up with you. Or like marching into your boss’s office and saying: 'You can’t fire me. I quit.'"
An awesome analogy. Thanks for the article.
-
This is kind of funny, but a really awesome game (Max Payne 3) just came out and half way through the main character goes sly. Totally awesome.

I agree. I love how it got the fanboys raging. I love his new look, it's very Bruce Willis.
BTW, since shaving my head, my Spanish friends have given me the nickname 'Guardiola' after the (now former) football/soccer coach and manager of Barcelona. We don't look much alike (given he is almost twice my age, Spanish and buzzed instead of sly), but it sure is fun to be nicknamed after one of their heroes. BTW, if you ever watch a Madrid-Barca game with Spanish people... GTFO as fast as possible because things turn ugly fast. :/O

Kerry King of Slayer

-
This one may seem odd, but I don't feel I have a bald celeb idol. The one who influenced me the most was my friend (whom interestingly, even my sister commented on how we could pass off as brothers.) In terms of celebrities, I would probably say Stu G from Delirious (I've always felt that he looked awesome,) and Grant Morrison (I just like his style of fashion and writing.)

(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs7.postimage.org%2F734c9bozb%2FDevin_Townsend_XIV_by_He_Ka_R.jpg&hash=3e5dd222535eea6b75169d201decc1b7784fac1a)
Devin Townsend. IMO, a very talented and underrated musician, who has released material ranging from extreme metal to ambient/new age for the past 18 years or so. He dealt with intense personal demons and came out on top. He also happens to be hilarious.
He rocked a "skullet" for most of the last decade, then finally shaved it all off when he quit drinking and drug use. I still need to go see him perform live.

Bruce Willis is a total legend, and so is David Draiman, was a sad day when I read that Disturbed was going on indefinite hiatus. Although I am excited for his new project, "Device".

My bald idol is Bruce Willis. He sort of pioneered bald in the acting world and I think he looks amazing!

-
I read yesterday that the country music singer, Kellie Pickler is now BBC and did it for a good cause.
Finally – a celebrity shaves her head for a good reason. Country star and former “American Idol” contender Kellie Pickler radically updated her look this week with a bold, bald pate, and she didn’t do it alone — she did it with her best friend Summer Miller. After tweeting earlier that “It’s been a great life-changing day,” Pickler revealed a video of her and her friend’s long tresses disappearing in an act of solidarity — and awareness-raising about breast cancer.http://www.salon.com/2012/09/06/kellie_pickler_bald_and_bold/
-
Yul Brynner & Telly Savalas. They paved the way for us & made Sly cool at a time when it wasn't.
As said above and by many. That paved the way for others that had and have a set. 8)
-
Samuel L. Jackson
Patrick Stewart's another one.
So is Mahatma Gandhi.

Good list! I think Howie has the coolest dome out of all those you mentioned.
-
There's too many for me to list, but it's great to see a few of mine in some of the responses.

-
Let me add LLCoolJ O0
I'm not an LL Cool J fan, but he has one heck of a dome.

Chris Daughtry , Hines Ward, Kevin Garnett.
