Title: My first vintage safety razors
Post by: SlyCatCrossing on November 27, 2016, 05:18:29 PM
Through a sale on badger & blade I just scored my first vintage razors: a 1953 gillette 40s style super speed and an unknown date gold gillette ball tip tech, both in good usable condition.  $14 total counting shipping.  The super speed is missing its end caps but I understand this is common and was assured of 100% functionality otherwise. The gold tech is in perfect working order but does show minor fade in the finish.  All together I feel like I got a great deal and struck the first two things off my wish list.

So the seller ended up throwing in a bonus: a 60s gillette travel tech in perfect condition with a case!  I'll post a proper review at some point but I ran the gold tech last night with a gillette silver blue and had the best head shave of my life.  Tonight I'm going to try a feather.

You got a nice razor.  The Red Tip is my travel razor.

Well the feather went exactly as it always had in the past for me (head or face): I got a close shave for sure but I found much more burn from aftershave and no less passes needed.  Not saying I disliked the feather but I think I'll save it for multiple days growth.  Silver blues almost always have been a winner for me but I just got in some astra sp I'm going to try next time.
