Ok, I know this has probably been answered, but is there any way we can get a full list of which blades are compatible with the 2 different HB adaptors?
-
I'm not sure about a full list, but I know the "Sensor" adaptor will fit all of the Gillette Sensor blades of course, as well as here in canada the Shoppers Drug Mart's " Life" brand and the Shick extreme 3. Oh and ther is also the Persona blades that as well. I think that Persona is sold in the U.S.
-
This might help: http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/HeadBlade-Razor-Blades-amp-Adaptors_W0QQugidZ10000000002756289
-
My suggestion would be to contact Head Blade. They aim to please and I'm pretty sure you'd get some kind of answer in no time at all.
-
Here's as full of list as I know:
Yellow Adapter:
HeadBlade Double and Triple blades
Gillette Atra Blades and Atra Plus (USA)
Any blade that says they are compatible with Gillette Atra razors.
Black Adapter:
Gillette Sensor and Sensor Excel
Gillette Sensor Triple blades
Persona Double and Triple blades
Any blade that is compatible with Gillette Sensor razors
Here's something I found to help a little more:
Gillette Atra, Contour, Vector - The blade clips onto the handle at two points and pivots up and down, which is supposed to make the blade follow the curves of your skin better than the Trac II and earlier razors. The Vector may be the only one still being made. It's almost identical to the later Atra and Contour that used a plastic handle rather than a metal one. I think the word "Plus" in the Vector means something different from other Gillette razors. Instead of referring to the lubrication strip, it refers to a push mechanism in the cartridge that cleans out the hair between the two blades.
Other brands that fit - Personna Auto, Personna Duofit, Schick Super II, Schick Slim Twin (the cartridge is thinner, but should still fit; this is not the current disposable Slim Twin razor), Schick Ultra Plus, Wilkinson Contact Plus, Wilkinson Profile, Old Spice High Endurance (triple blade), Noxzema Triple Blade, Headblade, Merkur.
Note that some blades are made to fit both Atra and Trac II type razors. On some pivoting razors, this kind of blade may not pivot as much as a blade without Trac II fittings.
UPDATE - Compatibility isn't exact with the Schick Slim Twin. I've had success using the Slim Twin cartridge in more than one pivoting razor, but other people have reported problems.
Gillette Sensor, Sensor Excel, Sensor 3 - Newer than the Atra, with somewhat different pivoting of the blade and the added feature of each blade in the cartridge flexing individually. The Sensor 3 uses a triple blade, but it fits the same. American Safety Razor also makes compatible handles and triple and twin blades.
Other brands that fit - Acti-Flexx (twin blade), Tri-Flexx (triple blade) - both of these will also be labeled "Personna" or have a store brand name.
-
Tyler, the list of which blades fit which adaptors is EXACTLY what I was looking for, I lost my black adaptor that came with the HB and don't wanna get new ones. So I'm looking for what fits that specifically.
-
Has anyone found just the adapters in the stores? I want to get some spares, but the only way I can find them is with the razor or with the triple blades. I want the black adapter though. I wasn't sure about ordering them since shipping will probably be more than the adapters themselves.
-

That's my other question, if I can get the replacements in a store it'd be so much better. Kind of pointless to get them shipped unless I'm ordering something else as well.
-
Good luck with finding the adaptors in retail stores. You have to buy them from the headblade website. That's why I have been putting off buying buying the headblade. But I broke down and bought a headblade yesterday.

Here's the way I do the math:
Each 3-pack of adapters costs around 6 bucks from HB. When you factor in shipping it comes in at 10, maybe 15 bucks total. That's about the same as a new HB Sport. Now, since getting a 3-pack of adapters is like getting 3 new HB's, I consider it to be a great value over the long run. Also, when you order anything from HB, they usually throw in some pretty cool free stuff, like samples of their creams and stickers and such.

Year ordering from HB is great! They always throw in stuff and when you are about to check out they hit you with last minute deals which you could save even more money when purchasing.

If your local Walgreens carries the HB Double or Tripleblades, they typically come with some new adaptors also...

The HB S4 Shadow comes with 2 adapters with the shape of the yellow one but in black color to match the dark body of the razor. I wonder if these will be available as spares.

This is very useful information Tyler I am definitely liking this since my headblade is in the mail and should be here in 3-5 business days

My HeadBlade is wonderful and it gives a real close shave - - -BUT - -what a - - pain-in-the-ass - it is to get replacement blades
-
anyone know if there's been any word on Fusion blades becoming compatible with HeadBlade?
-
Does the m5 blades work with headblade? or m3 ?
-
Does the m5 blades work with headblade? or m3 ?
Nope. I don't think they will as they don't conform to how the HeadBlade is designed.
-
I would love the simple Trac II design for an attachment. It would be easier to make than the Sensor attachment and they could market the Bump Fighter cartridges with it, since they also work the same way as a Trac II.
-
I knew that Personna made an Atra-compatible blade that I like, but I have also found out they make on one that is for BOTH Atra and Trac-II. Watch out for that one... it works in the headblade, but just barely. It feels awkward and does rock smoothly in the adapter like the regular Atra-compatible one does.

C V S has stopped carrying the atra style blades.......... @c3

Don't fret hipster. Walmart carries an Atra generic that works just as well, if not better.
It's the Personna Twin Pivot Plus (previously called the Auto plus). I use this exclusively on my HB, and get the best shaves. O0

I will check it out...thanks!! I think the CVS ones are probably made by personna anyway...
-
Really appreciate this list. HB blades are hard to come by up here so I appreciate knowing what else I can use.
-
I will update this thread for the guys that use the Personna Twin Plus doubles, they are now packaged under the Wilkinson Sword brand name. I picked up two sets at Walmart (still a great deal pricewise). I have yet to use them, but plan on shaving with them today on both head and face, so I'll let you know later.
-
I use store brand Women's Sensor Blades and put them on backwards, (pulling instead of pushing) because if I use it to manufactures specifications, I'll razor burn and bleed. >:( If i use men's Gillette Sensor blades, I get alot of irritation.
-
I don't know if any of you have a Dollar General store nearby but their store brand Twin Blade Plus fits the yellow adapter and costs just $1.25 for six blades.
-
Personna blades work quiet well on the Headblade. I have recently tried a Vector blade, it's the same as the Atra and Contour but marketed under that name in Asia, they are very cheap and to my surprise give a great shave! Normally I use my HB Triples on my HB Sport
-
Great information. i was using the mach 3 blades with the yellow adapter but prefer Sensor Excel blades better for me.
-
Currently using the HeadBlade with their matching HeadBlade razors.
When these HB blades run out, does anyone recommend better compatible razors ? Just wondered if I can get a better shave with HeadBlade and another make of razor....

Thanks for that, Tyler. Learning as I am going along....

Tried the Sensor triple blades with the black adapter and couldn't get the blade to stay put. Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong.
-
Cobster6, I would hate to buy a pack of the listed blades only for it not to work. Sadly my yellow adaptor broke a few days ago. Now I have to look for blades that fit the black adaptor, which can be a bit of a mission here.
-
Hello to everyone. Is there any general consensus as to what is the best blades to use from this list for the HB sport? I tried the Atra blade this morning and seemed like the HB triple that came with it worked better. These refills are not cheap so if somebody could steer me towards what will give me that smooth, Sly head would be appreciated. Thanks.
-
The only one I've tried ... and I'm satisfied with it ... is the Gillette Custom3Plus (use with the black adapter). Best price I've found was $14.08 for 12 blades ($1.17 each) at Amazon.
-
I have not yet tried any blades with the black adaptor yet. It sucks when your yellow adaptor breaks. I dislike using things that are easily breakable. Just hope the HB does not disappoint!
-

I've had good luck with the Wilkinson Sword blades (Atra generics). They are dirt cheap (~$3.50 for 10) and they seem to last for quite a few shaves. Also they seemed better than the Atra's themselves.
-
I have tried lots of different blades with my HB. I do remember that i was satisfied with the HB trips, but ever since I have been using the Sensor, Sensor Excel or Sensor 3. They are more expensive but IMHO well worth it. I didn't find any substantial differences between the Sensor, Excel and Sensor 3, so I stick with the generic Gillette Sensor, the cheapest of all three
The sensors might not be everyones first choice but I haven't heard of a single person who was dissapointed with them
-
I cannot seem to find the Gillette Sensor cartridges easily in my neck of the woods, since my yellow adaptor broke. There seems to be a flood of the new generation shaving cartridges on the shelves. They are out there somewhere, I know. Thanks for the recommendations.
-
Just bought some Gillette Sensor Excel blades to go with my Headblade Sport.
Oh yeah! It was way better than the HB tripple blades. O0
-
Great information. i was using the mach 3 blades with the yellow adapter but prefer Sensor Excel blades better for me.
I bought some Mach3 blades, but I can't see how either adapter would work. The way the M3 attaches to its handle - the M3 adapter - doesn't look like you can take it off, and neither HB adapter will fit the blades I have.
-
Schick Slim Twins work great and have a clean out button to push out the old hair. Very happy with them, better than the Wilkinsons I got from Walmart because of the cleaning feature.
-
Just ran across these London Drugs branded blades for Atra and Atra plus razors, they fit the HeadBlade yellow adapter nicely.
Price is good at $6.99 for 15 blades, now time for a trial and we see how good they are.
http://www.londondrugs.com/London-Drugs-Twin-Blade-Atra-Plus-Cartridges---15%27s/L3275971,default,pd.html?start=85&q=razor
-
Well I've had a chance to try these London Drugs blades, and I will say that if you ever come across any, run don't just walk away.
Managed to cut my skull for the first time since I went sly, was my own fault too, as right from the start I could tell they were not cutting smoothly.
I should have stopped right in the beginning, but no, I had to continue on until I managed a slice on the right-rear quadrant.

The answer may be in this thread somewhere but I can't find it. Are there any other brands of three or four-blade razors that work with Headblade?

I sent an email to Headblade to inquire what blades, other than the HB4 and HB6 could be used with the ATX and didn't get the answer I was looking for so I am going to ask here and please feel free to point your finger at me and :*)) if I am totally missing the answer in this thread or elsewhere in the forums.
What non-Headblade blades (if any) can be used on the Headblade ATX other than the HB4 and HB6?

Is it right that the Gillette adapter can only be used on the sport and not on the ATX?

No. I use Sensor blades on my ATX.

No. I use Sensor blades on my ATX.
I am sure it states on the Headblade site that it is only recommended for use with the sport?

I found some disposable triple blades by "Pacific" at Big Lots which are 6 for $2.00. Blades detach from the handle easily and work with the yellow adapters. They pivot more than the HeadBlade triples but work. Attached is an image of the packaging.
-
Thanks for all replies in this thread! Very useful.
I am an ATX user, and want to try some other blades. If I understand correctly, standard ATX adaptor is not compatible with any blades other than HB4/HB6, so I have 2 options:
1) (BAD OPTION) Simply order Sensor Adaptor 3-Pack (http://www.headblade.com/product/91207.html (http://www.headblade.com/product/91207.html)) and try it with my ATX. NOT recommended according to product description on Headblade site.
2) (BETTER OPTION) Order new HeadBlade Sport, which I assume comes with a yellow adaptor + order black Sensor Adaptor 3-Pack.
This way I'll be able to use:
- with standard (yellow) adaptor - Gillette Atra/Vector 3 blades
- with Sensor (black) adaptor: Gillette Sensor/Sensor Excel/Sensor 3 blades
... Am I correct?
-
I use both the sensor adapter and yellow adapter on my ATX. In fact I use HB triple blades and they work great.
-
Thank you, Tyler! Will try HB3, as well as Gillette blades with both types of adaptors on my ATX!
-
I discovered a new alternative this morning. I have been experimenting with different options for all of my shaving needs, including Dollar Shave club(DSC). My ATX with HB4 blade was lying next to my DSC 4 blade razor and I realized the blades looked identical except for color. So I flipped it over and looked at the attachment mechanism and what do you know...they are!
The DSC blade comes with an adapter to fit its handle. It will pop off just like the HB adapter. and the blades are identical. So the blades that you can by for $6 shipped from DSC will work on your HB4 adapters. I will take pictures later to post if anyone thinks that will help.
-
Been using ATX for a couple of weeks now, is there a blade other than the 4 or 6 that will fit without an adapter?
Thanks
-
You can use any adapter that HeadBlade makes on the ATX. I use the yellow adapter with HeadBlade triples on my ATX.
-
As notquitethere posted, Dollar Shave Club x4 blades will work on the ATX if you pop off the adapter and insert the ATX adapter.
If you want to get the cartridges for even cheaper than what Dollar Shave Club sells them for, buy them from Dorco. Dorco makes the handles and cartridges for Dollar Shave Club (DSC x4 = Dorco Pace 4). All DSC does is repack and name them. Same for HeadBlade. The Cartridges are identical. HB4 = Pace 4, HB6 = Pace 6.
If you purchase from Dorco, use the following link for 20% off. http://dorcousa.refr.cc/L4H6KDJ (http://dorcousa.refr.cc/L4H6KDJ)
I just used it the other day and got a Pace 4 handle (comes with 2 blades) and a 24 pack of Pace 4 blades for under $27 shipped. Just over $1 per blade and I can use the same blades on my face and touch up around my head. Exactly what I was looking for since I recently started using HeadBlade ATX (which is awesome).
Nice site you have here. I found the Dorco deal and notquitethere's post from a Google search and figured I'd register and pass the deal on to my bald brothers.
-
Somewhere on this thread someone asked about using Bumpfighter blades with the Headblade razor. Can you do it? I think the answer was listed as no.
Anyhow, I found out by accident recently that it is possible. I was traveling and the blade for one of my disposable bumpfighters fell off the handle. I attached it to the headblade easily (Yellow adapter for headblade ATX). It fit perfectly. The shave I got was poor overall. I found that the blade seemed to apply little or no pressure to my head and it felt like it was bouncing.
I've experimented some more since then and I can easily replicate this. But each time the shave I have gotten is poor. It just emphasized to me that I'm not using the products as designed.
For me personally the best shave I get is with the Atra Plus. I just bought 100 Persona Twin pivot blades for $21. They seem to be not as good as the atra plus, but only slightly so. For 21 cents a blade how much can I complain really.
Just a thought.
-
I use dorco pace 4 on my atx. They are the same as the hb4s but a fraction of the cost. You just have to remove the dorco universal adapter with a pair of tweezers. I get the pace 4 carts for less then a buck a piece with free shipping so I don't mind 10 secs of work before attaching a new cart. The dorco/dsc blades fit the yellow adapter on the sport as well (which does fit on the atx btw) but I got a very poor shave compared to the hb4/dorco pace 4s. Actually all dorco blades from the pace 3 through the pace 6 all for the standard atx adapter if you remove Dorco's adapter from the back first. I love and will support headblade for the atx itself and headslick (love that stuff) but I'll keep buying my blades straight from dorco. They send me monthly emails with coupons and shipping is always free over $10 order.
*i am not employed or affiliated with dorco. I am just very frugal and hate to see everyone spending so much on hb4s or hb6s
-
Snagged a Moto from Walgreen's on my way out of the U.S.. They didn't have any extra blades in stock, though. Now I'm wondering what other blades I can snap on the Moto, and/or if I might need an adapter of some sort.
Anyone got the facts on this model? Thanks!

Does anyone know if the sport, Moto and ATX HB's have different adapters? I've purchased a few Dorco pace 4's as my HB triple gave me a nasty bite. But after removing the Dorco adapter from the cartridge I can't figure out how it would attach it either the yellow or black adapters I have with my HB sport?
Any help would be appreciated folks.
Cheers

@Mav I haven't tried the 4 blade cartridges from Dorco, but the 3 & 2 blade will work with the yellow cartridge.

I bought Atra Plus Generic Blades BULK Packaging - 100 Cartridges Fits Gillette Razor from ebay for $14.00 and a handle for $5.50
I thought these blades fit the yellow adaptor, but I can't get them to fit on the yellow or black ones. I used the handle and blade and it's a nice close shave. Can't beat the price, just wish it would go on the headblade..

They fit the ATX, I know as I bought the ATX to get use of them. I don't like the ATX at all however I find it misses often but I'm now scared of my sport and 3 blade cartridges in general.
I've gone back to using my Gillette Fusion proglide with damn expensive cartridges. I bought a bunch of non branded ones but they were nasty so have shelled out for the actual ones again, costly but best shave I've had and less worry about catching myself.

I'm not sure if something changed, or if I bought the wrong cartridges, but this thread was super helpful and I wanted to contribute my experience using the:
- Headblade Moto, and
- Dorco Pace 6 Plus cartridges, with
- The Headblade HB3 Adaptor
The Dorco cartridges didn't fit on the adaptor that comes with the Headblade Moto (or at least I couldn't figure it out), and there is no universal adaptor on the Dorco cartridges, themselves (they're really flat). The Pace 6 Plus cartridges fit on the HB3 Adaptor (yellow one), but it doesn't sit right. Again, I might be the problem here, but the cartridge/blade just flops around. I can still use the HB, but I have to kind of hold my finger on the cartridge while I'm drawing the HB against my scalp.
I guess I'm wondering if I'm messing something up, and if someone else has used this combo perfectly fine. Or, failing that, to let people know that either something changed between the Dorco cartridges, the HB Moto design (vs. the ATX I guess?), or the way the adaptors fit in between.
Cool community, and thanks for all the info!

What this thread needs is links, links to compatible blades and their respective adaptor. It's way too confusing without proper links, specially for Europeans.
