Finally took the no guard plunge!
« on: May 03, 2012, 04:02:40 PM »
Ok guys, I did it. I finally took the plunge. Im not sure if I like it and am kind of in shock at the difference. I think I do kind of like it though! So far only two people have seen it. My sister said it looked fine and my friend/roomate said I look like a funny criminal... oh well. No comments so far about the shape and the ears which is what i was concerned about! I feel extremely liberated. Thanks to all the guys who helped me get the courage to do this. What do you guys think?

You look good - headshape and ears are fine!  By the way, the shock is a pretty normal reaction.  Seeing you own head without any hair is very different than seing someone else without hair.  It'll take a few days before the shock of seeing your bald reflection wears off.  At a certain point, you'll experience the feeling of "oh yeah, that's me!" and the sly look will feel completely normal.

Good luck and welcome to the brotherhood!

I agree with npsbg.

Your head looks good.  It suits you well.  You're almost bald. The difference in look between what you show now and bald is almost nothing. The feel difference however, is dramatic.  Smooth bald, vs. buzzed no guard feels much different. (I prefer shaved).

If you're not sure, let this run a few days or a week.  When you're ready get the razor out.  Nothing like a shiny dome.  In the meantime, keep your eyes open for other bald by choice guys around you and those who shave their heads.  You'll probably start noticing more that you ever thought.

Congratulations on the very short buzz. Looks good.

I have to say its going well, frontier guy. I've gotten passed the 'surprise' each time I look in the mirror and whatnot. It's been a much easier transition than expected. As far as reactions go, many people haven;t even seemed to notice much! My confidence seems to be increasing day by day. Yesterday I saw an old friend on the street who I hadn't seen in a few years. She gave me the up and down look and after a quick conversation she willingly offered her phone number. Life is good!

That's awesome.

I got a chuckle yesterday. At my Saturday/Sunday job I worked with about 200 people - but because of odd schedules it may be weeks before I see someone. Two people yesterday, whom I haven't seen in a few months, didn't recognize me - even though we've worked together for years. We all had a good laugh. Another of my co-workers said there had been a lot of hallway conversation ("Did you see his new cut?") - the gist was that it was all positive, but they were too embarrassed to say anything directly to me!

I'm on Day #10 of 30 - this look is a keeper for sure.
