Title: Can I convince her to go sly?
Post by: Raulski on March 12, 2013, 07:21:22 PM
Hi. My mother in law is Shaving for a Cure soon. She is fairly outgoing & can see the fun side of it. She also thinks she's going to look hideous til it grows back.
I'm encouraging her to go the whole hog seeing as she will most likely never do this again but she only wants a buzz cut. I've explained the opportunity before her & that there's only a week or 2 between shiny & short but she's not having a bar of it.
What do you reckon?

She's a young looking 50 & has always had wavy, shoulder length brown hair with blonde highlights (so its pretty cool if her to do this "for a Cure" anyway). I just want her to get the most out of the experience, you know?

Maybe you could buy her a couple of cool scarves to wear when she is wanting to cover it up.  That way she will be able to experience it, but will have the security of wrapping it fashionably as she sees fit.

I think that's a great idea.

It would be a shame if she misses the opportunity to have the "full experience" since this is probably a one-time opportunity.

If my pictures ever get approved in the gallery (someone hasn't gone through to approve lately I guess!), you can share them with her and see what she thinks.  :)

I love the smooth feel.

Hats/scarves help too.  :)

Nice! Your MIL rocks the look! I'm a little jealous, because her haircut reminds me of the things I used to have shaved in my head back in the day (that was before the hairloss kicked in LOL)

It might just be me, the the MIL looks happier in the Sly photo.  Perhaps it's simply relief ... but looks rather joyous.

Your MIL looks great with the short buzz & the design on the back of her head is cool. If she had the guts to go that far then I don't see why she shouldn't just go all the way to a shaved head. She could ask for sponsors & donate the proceeds to a cancer charity or something similar.

Let her know that folks here think she has done a very good thing and she looks just fine - no worries.

I think that new haircut is an improvement over the previous.  I doubt she'd want the design to always be there, and I doubt you'll get her to go sly, but the shorter hair is definitely a good look for her.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I've passed your comments on to her. She's happy with the positive words but, to be honest, I don't think she likes the short hair. (No accounting for taste ;) )

Your MIL looks great with the short hair. I get the idea... it's not "feminine", I say the Heck with that... I LOVE the look of a lady with short hair and a HUGE smile. You MIL has all that, and more... she looks absolutely TERRIFIC.

I hope she is continuing to feel positive about the experience and wanting to take her hair shorter and shorter. She looks pretty radiant and when she embraces the sly, she will look AMAZING.

Someting which has not been said. I find she looks younger with a short buzz. Probably because especially young women dare buzzing their hair so short.

Anyway, it suits her quite well.
