Firstly, I just wanna say this is an awesome site and you guys are great...I'm new to the site and have been debating whether or not to shave it all off. My main concern is the shape of my head. From the side my head looks awkward and pointy. There is no roundness in the back. Anyway, I'm really nervous about shaving it all off and wanted you guys opinions. Moreover, I've got a small small scar on the top of my head near the crown due to an accident in which i had to get a few stitches. I'm extremely anxious about going through with it as I'm already pretty self-conscious about it all. Basically, I don't want to be forced to wear a hat all day everyday so as to avoid embarrassment. Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I think you've got a good shape, and as far as scars go, I've got one front and center from a Lego accident when I was 5.... and it's not so obvious after a clean shave. I think shaving has diminished the appearance of the scar, in fact.
Like many other guys on here have done, I would recommend taking it down step by step, seeing what you're comfortable with, but I think you'll be sly in no time with a little confidence :)

Welcome tuftsuniv to the forum. Glad you found us. The shape of your head looks fine from those photos and we all have imperfections, scars, etc and they truly are not as noticeable as you might think and are a bigger deal to us than to others. If the anxiety of going totally sly is that strong, perhaps you should go to a #1 buzz first and get comfortable with that. You could then take it to a zero which is almost sly. If that doesn't fit you well, it just takes a few days to be back at a 1 again. Have to warn you though that the thought of being sly is already planted in your head and you won't rest until you shave it. Before you do shave though, check out the various threads threads here on products and techniques so that the first shave will be a good experience.

You've got an excellent headshape man. I don't see the problems you are seeing.
As for scars, I have 3, and it doesn't bother me. Adds a little character.
My advice is go for it. O0

tuftsiniv1....welcome 2 the sly brotherhood. glad that ya found us. as far as your noggin'...it's looks fine...there is no perfectly shaped head. we all have some imperfections. as far as shaving your noggin'.... i say go 4 it. put a quality razor (fusion,mach3,hb) on that dome & make it smooth. your dome will look better than it looks now. and u will not regret it. anyways... with all that said.... it will b up 2 u when the deed will b done. remember this... the sooner the better. O0 c ya 'round the forum & keep us posted 2 your road 2 SLYNESS.

I second what Paul said. That's the advice he gave me early on and it works.
I remember the anxiety well, since I am just one month into being slick and smooth. If you follow this advice I can guarantee you will be shaving it off probably no more than a week into the 0 buzz.
This is exactly what happened with me. Once I had gotten it down that close, it really gets into your head to just finish it off and be done with it.
Like some of the bro's say; give it a chance, if you really don't like it, it's about 3 days til you're back at a #1. If you find you like it, then give it thirty days and I bet you will be addicted.
Also, your noggin looks fine. We all have something that we like and dislike about our heads. That's what makes us different. We usually think about it more for the same reason some try in vain to keep their hair. It's a vanity issue, but once you shave it, it free's you up from thinking this way. Try it and see. O0

Welcome aboard, Tufts. Your head shape is fine -- not a thing to be conserned about. You've already had great advice from these guys, and I agree with them. Here's an observation, though: A perfectly spherical cranium is not a requirement for shaving, or none of us would be here. Our perceived "faults" stand out to us, and when we're backed up to the bathroom mirror, looking at the reflection in the hand-held mirror, our eyes go directly to the places we are concerned about. "Isn't that bulge in the back a bit big?" or "Sheesh, from that angle it looks like I have a point on my head!" or, "is that scar the deal-breaker?" I have come to believe that no one obsesses about my head but me, and frankly, I think if we are more or less symmetrically shaped (side to side) no one who sees our bare noggins gives a rip. A person looking at a bald head tends to see the whole package, not the individual characteristics that we focus on.
So, take 'er down to a #1, then #0....and then go for it! You're sure to like it.

Tufts, welcome! I'll trade your head shape for mine any day. I see nothing wrong with it. Take the advice about buzzing it shorter and shorter. It will give you a great idea of what the final product will be. I agree with the others that sooner or later you will be smooth since the seed o do it has already been planted.

And it seems like every time I do, I find something else wrong with it. I think another thing is the anxiety about introducing the new look to friends, fam, etc...I think I'm just not looking forward to answering all the questions and looks....

By no way is my next statement meaning to embarras you or make you feel bad.
I checked both your photos, and on the top I noticed the hairline gone in the front almost to your crown. The bottom pic I can see most of your crown,which means 50% of your hair is gone at this point. Time to shave!!
Your head shape is great, you will be able to get a awesome shave the first try. Just take your time the first couple of shaves to get the hang of the contour.
As I was told during my week of partial hair to no hair, I did the fast trim thing, your kinda getting to the creepy science teacher look. Check my colage in the before/after pics, I was beyond weird science!!
I think the biggest decision will be how you want your facial hair, whether to bring it to a thinner line, but please not like Daughtry...he looks freaky :o... or grow it thicker. Keep it like you have it and make the decision after you shave, you'll understand after.
Its a hard decision to make until you do it, then you ask why you waited so long.... and it will always grow back, thats when the coin flips and you wish it wouldn't!!
And the scar... remember the bar fight when you took on 2 guys and one hit you with the chair ;)

No worries Champ007, I appreciate the suggestions. I'm just having trouble working up the nerves to actually ante up and do it. My head shape is not as proportional as it looks in those pics (the lighting and camera both suck)...I had a minor jet ski accident when I was younger which resulted in the small scar I have near the crown. The accident also resulted in a small indentation which, I'm afraid, will stand out greatly if I shave it completely down. And from the right side, due to the bump on the right, rear side of my head...I'm pretty sure it won't look good...But what else can I do? Eventually most of my hair will be gone anyway...It's all pretty depressing as it seems I'm screwed either way...Any opinions fellas?

Once you get used to shaving on a regular basis, I don't think you will find yourself getting depressed about it. Usually the reaction is quite the opposite... euphoria about the power and control you now have over your situation -- no more worrying about trying to cover up the obvious balding. You have better things to do with your life than waste it worrying about your MPB. Most people couldn't give a flying flip about your follicular-challenged head; they are too wrapped up in their own problems. Most of the anxiety you have will fly out the window. The only thing you may obsess over is how you possibly could have missed that one spot, and now you are only 99% smooth. Let us know how your decision process goes, and let us know about any other questions you might have. (Boy, I sure am chatty tonight -- I'm sure the coffee has nothing to do with it... C*f3 )

Hey tuft, check out Boostd4's intro. He talks about how he thought his crown was huge by touch, but when he shaved it, it looked fine. I'm sure you'll find the same with your scar and indentation. Either way, getting those in a jet ski accident can be a great conversation piece to show how "dangerous" you are.

Do it...Shave your head slick bald...Give it the 30day trial period...If you dont like it and want to grow it back then I will personally send you a check for $20.

Shaving it is all about losing those anxieties that you've mentioned. You worry now about your hair & head shape etc, but once you've shaved it all those things will hopefully become non-issues to you It's like you're putting yourself out there, saying here I am - take it or leave it .... no more pretense, no more anxieties .... this is who I am .... if people don't like it ... it's their problem, not yours! O0 That's where the empowerment lies ....

Hey Tuft, I completely forgot that before I shaved I thought I had this hole in the back right corner of my dome. I use to feel it when my hair was there, but when I shaved it didn't exist. Not sure why it felt that way but I was major relieved. I remembered it after your last post. You have the whole team behind you, hell, if nothing else do it for the 40 bucks... nothing like tax free money!!!

Hey bro, go for it, you won't regret it!!! We all have some hang-ups about how we look and believe me my dome is far from perfection, but it looks 10x better than when I tried to pretend like my hair wasn't receding! Like Champ said, we're all behind you bro!

Thanks for all the advice fellas...it's much appreciated. I think my going sly is inevitable at this point, but I'm just not sure how long it'll be before I actually do it. Maybe one day, after a few corona's or something, I'll stop being a chicken sh*t and get it done...

I agree. Champ007's transformation is one of the most amazing I've ever seen. And there are plenty of other good examples in the Before & After Gallery.
Resistance is futile. The sooner you realize that you have no choice in the matter, the better. It will be a huge relief.
