By hairy face I mean full bear, partial beard, goatee, or mustache.
If so. did you have facial hair before going Sly, or did you grow it afterwards?
-
Sly for a bit over a year, but have had facial hair in some form or other (no less than a goatee) for nearly 16 years
-
My upper lip hasn't seen the light of day since Basic Training in 1977. My chin has been mostly hidden since I left the military over two decades ago, but I'll occasionally do a biker 'stach and let the chin pop out.
-
I've been bearded since I was 20 years old (I'm 24 now). The first few times I went sly I short term sported a beard butm ostly sported a goatee.I'm msot comfortable bearded so I'm in the process of growing my beard back and rocking the bald and bearded look
-
Wore a goatee before going Sly. Did the shaved head with goatee look, off and on, for about 5 years. Been bald and fully bearded pretty much for the last two years. This is my first summer with the full beard. I thought I would feel too hot, but I don't notice it at all.
-
Never was much of a face shaver....always keep a bit of growth and used to trim it down when I shaved my hair with clippers. Odd that I love to shave my head....but not my face. :/O
-
I had a goat until a week ago. Shaved it off. I'm sure I'll bring it back after summers over.
-
Never been consistent. I've done all of the following while sly: Full beard, completely sly, cop mustache, biker mustache, goatee, Vandyke (as now).
-
I've had a least a mustache pretty much since I was 16 years old. There was a year or two in there somewhere that I had no facial hair.
Over the years I've had full beards, goats, mustache only....... whatever. When I first went SLY I had only a mustache for a year or so......... then MrsKoz. convinced me to grow the goat.
-
I've had a full beard since 1987, changed in the Mr Clean route in May 2007, shaved the face and buzzed #1 the head, sly since August 2007.
Since Januar 2010 I try a (white) goatee.

Pre-Sly, had two bearded periods--full, one "mountain man" and a moustache period. Long bare face time, then Sly w/ bare face, finally goat 1 & 1/2 years ago, grew it out to the extended goat, and now as of Monday night, back to a plain goat. Goal, full beard starting in October.
-
I've been rockin' the Van Dyke for 15 years. My wife says it stays or she goes ;D
-
I always have some sort of hair on my face. ;D

Oh man.... BA and FR8 on the same day!!!!!! It's a great day at SBG!!!
-
I have facial hair for about 25 years....basically a goat most of the time.
-
I had a 'tash pretty much since I was 14 or 15, and only ever shaved it off once for a few weeks. then last year I decided to have a swap around, shaved the tash and grew a bit of a goat without the tash. Trouble is, I can't join up the tash to the goat, or else I'd do the full thing! 8)
-
Never been consistent. I've done all of the following while sly: Full beard, completely sly, cop mustache, biker mustache, goatee, Vandyke (as now).
I had to Google Vandyke, I had never heard Vandyke as a term for facial hair style before, and I have sported the Vandyke many times for long periods of time.
I have a scar on my lip that can only be seen if I shave off my mustache, so I always keep the mustache.
Well looks like the majority of us sly guys prefer to have some sort of facial hair.
-
When I'm sly, I HAVE to rock a goat. Without it, I look like an even goofier version of Howie Mandel!
-
I grew the goatee every chance I could while in the Navy...
Now it is here to stay!!!

I thought your picture was a picture of Howie Mandel, :)

Thanks Mike. Been REAL busy this summer >:( but things are starting to wind down. O0
It's always good to hear from BA too. O0

Usually have just the chin hair/half goatee but have recently started growing out my "beard" part. Can't stand it long, so have been keeping it perfectly trimmed and lined up. We will see how long it lasts!
-

LOL! That is a picture of Howie, but it's scary how much that looks like me...
-
I have almost always sported some sort of facial hair even it was just a soul patch.

ROFLMAO
If that was you and not Howie in your picture you could pass for his twin.
-
I have a pronounced chin so I think the goat/soul patch/sans moustache look suits me. My facial hair is sparse and somewhat patchy, so I've never been able to grow a full beard. I really want to try it, but I can't get past a couple weeks; it becomes way too scraggly, irritating, and pube-looking.
Once every few weeks I'll go completely sly, face and head.
-
I've had a goat for the last decade. I have thought of shaving it from time to time, but I like it too damn much.
-
Big fan of some form of facial hair, and have been for the last twenty odd years. I usually have a full goatee, or Van Dyke as it's formally known, but I much prefer the true goatee better. The mustache starts to bug me after a while.
-
Almost always at least have the mustache. Went totally facially sly twice since shaving the noggin. But usually alternate between a vandyke and full beard. Currently have just the mustache.
-
Had the facial hair before going sly. Now, I think taking it off would be just too much skin exposure.
-
Have consistently had a mustache most of my adult life. When I retired from the Air Force I've kept at least a goatee with the 'stache and will go for the full beard here shortly for the winter.
Sly from 2005-2007.
Sly this time since July 24.
-
I've been having a moustache since I was old enough to grow one!!

Strangly enough, I have never ever grown any facial hair. Not even in my 'wild hippie days' when I tried to get my hair as long as possible ;)
However, about week ago I saw this poll and was suprised that the majority of sly guys have facial hair.
So, I've decide to join in and stopped shaving (my face, not the head!). Just out of curiosity. I'm interested to see how it looks.
I'll give a few weeks (hmm, come to think of it: I think the 30 days rule applies here just as well).
-
Too much ugly not to keep some of it covered! :*))
-
I trim my beard, but I hate shaving my face. I stopped the day I left the Army.
-
I'm a recent convert to the face hair club! It is a post-military experience. Early on in my adult life I tried a stash and looked like some guy named Adolf, when I trimmed my stash to regulation size. :o So, I've waited (for decades ???) and the time has come. This is an eye opening experience. O0
And yes, I need to update my photo. ;)
-
bald head, but i go on and off with facial hair whenever it isnt European championship time or world cup time i have a goatee, iam only clean shaven during the European Championships tournament, which is once every four years, during the world cup i grow a full beard and the world cup is once every four years, i go back to a goatee after the World cup final.
2004 - Bald Head and clean shaven - EM 2004
2006 - Bald Head and beard - WM 2006
2008 - Bald Head and clean shaven - EM 2008
2010 - Bald Head and full beard - WM 2010

Yeah: get that photo updated!! :x!

Had my goatee long before I went sly.(started it in the army at age 18)
Started going sly at 2005.(6 years later)
Can't live without my goatee.
Without it,I look 10 years younger, and very strange.
Only thing I hate about it,is trimming it with a shaving machine when it goes too thick and wild, and God,I hate hair flying all over the place.(that's one of the main reasons I went sly,and don't just trim my hair as short as possible with a machine)

Too late, the goat's coming off. I got advise to remove it for interviewing. It seems to be a distraction for talking to someone about getting a job. Go figure. :/O
;)
-
I shave my face, but I've been trying to grow a nice goatee or beard, its just that time period where its not all the way there that gets me everytime. I'm going to try growing one again starting tomorrow.

OK, I'm growing it back! Give me a few weeks (actually about a month or more! :*)) :*))
Yeah. Unfortunately, too serious. As I said on another thread, the job fair was a bust, waste of time. Back to not shaving (much). :*))

I know how you feel, I had a really important doctors appointment on Monday and I figured I should look good because it wad my first time having an appointment with this doctor. I had a good 9-10 day beard going (longest I've gone without shaving since I began 3 years ago) and the doctors appointment was so laid back and the doctor was really nice. I'm still frustrated with myself for shaving, I almost had a faint glimmer of a goatee going on.

Why would the doctor care if you shaved or not?

It was my first time meeting this doctor and I wanted to make a good first impression. I hadn't shaved my face in over a week, I had my head shaved and I didn't know how to have a full beard with a shaved head. I tried trimming it down to a goatee, but it was a failed attempt IMO ( http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee428/BaldBradley/downloadfile.jpg ). I'm the only guy in my immediate family so I don't have someone to turn to for advice or pointers. The main reason I came back to this site (I left for awhile) was that people on here are always nice and are willing to share advice and share tips.

Cheer up, it's not that bad. 8)
You just need to develop more patience.
And more facial hair, too. ;D

Here's some advice: don't worry so much about what a stranger -- like this doctor -- thinks about your appearance. Chances are he would not give it any thought at all. And what does his opinion really matter anyway? Do what makes you happy.

Im military and just shave both.

Both look great ! Many do not have facial hair , and others do. To me it is who wears it and what they desire. Not keeping up with who has what. Because when you are SLY it is all good. O0
-
On a lark, I had ditched the facial hair a few months back. Sly and clean-shaven was not a good look for me at all, so the face fur is back!
-
It's interesting that so many bald guys ( BBC and BBN ) choose to sport the facial hair by a large percentage!
Gotta love a beard.

I was thinking the same thing, B&B is a great look, so I can understand why. That and over the past few years facial hair is becoming more popular in society, just like head shaving.
-
Today was one of those days. LOL it seemed my stash was just not doing the right thing. Told it to lay down, it stood up. And it went on. So after along time I decided to shave it off. O0 After I replaced the mirror as it broke due to shock. The new one added 10 years to my weathered face. I have to say it feels good :) It is funny when you are younger you want to look older, which facial hair does. And when you get older you would like to look younger.
It is funny sometimes men are just as bad as women in needing a change. Growing back the hair on top of my old noggen is never going to happen . But it is another day , see what tomorrow brings ! ;D
-
I've been growing what I can since I was 17-18. Before I had shaved my head. I haven't had any regrets about shaving my head, but I instantly regretted it after I shaved what mustache I had off. Felt like a little kid with just a goatee. Hair belongs on a man's face more than it does on the head.
-
I always have some sort of hair on my face. ;D
Same here even though I dislike my facial hair, haha. I shave of course, but my hair grows back fast.
-
I'm not bald! I have plenty of hair on my head just not on the top! :D

I say to each their own w8th regards to facial hair, weather sly or not. Ive always kept my face clean shaven myself, although i did try growing a goatee notlong after becoming bbc sly guy. Got far enough to where you could just begin to see how it would look on me, and didnt like it, so off it came. But to me as long as a guy carries his look with confidence, he looks good regardless of if he is sly or not, has facial hair or not, with a few exceptions. Like i hate it when guys choose to go with full on horseshoe look. Shave it off, please. Horseshoe look just doesnt look good on anybody. Long beards are also not such a good look on most guys, although some can pull it off pretty well. But otherwise a guys hair choices dont have much to do with my opinion of his looks.

Yeah, very true. Even before I shaved my head I've generally favoured wearing some form of facial hair from about the age of 15 (I started shaving at 13 when i was being teased about growing a moustache). Though on the horseshoe, yes I hate it on me, but I wouldn't know my Uncle without his horseshoe+ beard combo, I've even seen photos from 30+ years ago and his hairstyle was about the same just with less grey in it
