I don't have a tat as of yet, just never had my bod done with a tat before. So I like the Hawaiin Tribal design and thought that the center initials would be SBG O0 as I am Totally Sly, so we will see. Right now I am sitting on the fence with this one...... O:O

that would be pretty ballsy. tribal is so overdone anymore, that it juseems too mainstream to me. but that is just mho.
-
Do see a lot of tribals but think the incorporation of initials is a sweet idea.
-
Well need some idea's.. I like the armband tats and I'm still looking so, it will be a while still. I may wait until I get back over to the Big Island and get into a place to see what they have. P@^
I may just get my logo that I have on my business card.

If you are considering a tribal, especially Hawaiin tribal, get it done there. Dont come back to the mainland and try to find someone to do it. You will get much more original and authentic work done there. That is my 2 cents worth anywho! :D
-
"Heleimakamaekamailekapilipoli"
Oh sure! That's easy for you to say! :*))
Does look very cool though!
-
Just an FYI on my Hook Design, in Hawaii certain figures mean something the Turtle, Dolphin etc
The hook represents "Power and Strength"

True! Unless you are here in the Bay Area. I can hook you up with my wife's artist that came from Hawaii. Same guy that did The Rock's tattoos.

Must be good if he did The Rock's work. Are his prices reasonable?

I think so.

dude, spend some money. a discount tat is just that. A CHEAP TAT. drives me crazy when people choose an artist by what he/she is gonna charge instead of by his/her ability. tv's=discounts drinks=happy hour prices tattoos=find the best artist you can and pay up. helps if you can form a friendship with them too. ok i am finished ranting for now.
-
Not really a rant, PBurke, just good solid advice. Remember, tattoos are no more permanent than you are, but they can last up to 80 years ;). Make the investment.
-
I already told my wife like it or not, when we go back to Hawaii in March 08, I'm getting my first tat.
-
Tatfanatic, nice ink bud. Suits you very well, where did you get bulk of your work done?
I am getting my first tattoo in a week from today. 2 actually. Both going to be a cursive script ,one saying my son in Spanish and the the other a dedication to my wife along my collarbone. Will post pics when done.
J_B,if you like tribal I say go for it. It may be a popular design but so what? Get something that is important to you and means something.

Thanks, Jdog. Of my two tattoos, the smaller tattoo on my neck was done by Paul Wren at Th-inker Tattoo in Melbourne, Florida. He also did the other, much larger one. ;)

Two tattoos? Looks like you've got a lot more than that! ???

It says KAMAILE - part of her Hawaiian name "Heleimakamaekamailekapilipoli"
I bet her name drives the nurses nuts when they page her at the doc's office

The one on my neck took six hours, the other one, from wrists to ankles, took 6 years. Still... just the two tattoos and finally finished... unless I decide to sell my architectural firm and join the circus. No scalp ink though.. it's a waste of a perfectly good noggin.

OK - so you're considering your arms and legs to be one continuous tattoo.
-
I hope to get eventual 3/4 sleeves. I have some pretty mean designs in the works incorporating greek mythology

Hey Danny, Tatt looks good on you bud. Nice spot where people can see it but discreet enough to not draw attention to it if that isnt what you want.
I'm a fan of Oriental and Kanji characters. I have a Japanese friend who is all the time getting asked by people to translate words in Japanese Kanji so they can get it tattooed.
One thing I found out from him is that he went into a well known tattoo studio here in Sydney and there was a Chinese and Japanese flash book and about 1/2 of the symbols in there were completley wrong or severley badly translated.
He mentioned 1 particular symbol which in the book meant "Perserverance" but due to 3 large cross strokes that were not in the symbol, The real translation had someone gotten this Symbol would be "Mud-Bricked building" :*))
-
That's why I would be scared to get one of those Kanjis. I'd be Affraid that instead of saying "Bad @$$", It would translate as "tampon" or something worse.
.....walk into the mall and wonder why all the Oriental people are laughing at me.
