Title: Sara's Fitness Challenge aka HC
Post by: HotCajun on April 12, 2007, 10:05:16 PM
Where in the H*LL has this thread been....(right here Sara)  :/O

Anyway....so guys and gals I totally need this....I have been trying to lose about 10 to 15 and I really want to tone up!!! I want my wash board stomache back!!! I'd like to get more definition in my arms.....If you guys have any advice for me, please help me out....I do about 30 to 45 minutes of cardio 3 or 4 times a week...I'm afraid that if I weight train I'll bulk up and I don't want to be a body builder!!!

I have started a new diet, well, about two weeks ago.... I'm at 132...I'd like to be between 115 or 120 - I'm 5'3 so really 5 pounds shows on me! (Please don't comment back on you look fine just the way you are...I really want this!!!)

Breakfast - Scrambled Eggs (no yolk) 0r Special K Red Berries

Snack - Yogurt

Lunch - Tuna in the can or a salad (Light Vinegrette Dressing) or tuna salad...lol

Dinner - Baked Fish and Steamed Veggies

I've been drinking Water or Lipton Diet Green Tea

I have to confess that I have not cut out any alcoholic consumption...hahaha...I really don't want to either, so if you have any ideas for lower calorie drinks other than Michelob Ultra I'll take'em!

Start weight: 132
Start Date: 4/1/07 (for Sh*ts and giggles)
Goal Date: May 25th

I'll be in Destin and I wanna look and feel the best I possibly can!!! If any of you have any diet tips or work out tips I'm all ears!!!

Beleive it or not i am a fitness instructor with the YMCA. I don't work there anymore but do have my papers.

Simple advice for you would be to try doing your cardio early in the morning, before you eat breakfast, that way you are burning pure calories. if this isn't possible do cardio 2 times a day, or 7 days aweek. I beleive you cannot over do cardio.

Also the more muscle mass you have on your body the easier it is to break down and process fat, so increasing the weight of your weights in oyur lifting routine will not bulk you up signifcantly.

PS you are beautiful you don't need to lose any weight

I totally agree.  O0       However, if you do want to tone up and not increase mass, increase the reps and not the weight.  This will allow for a good tone without necessarily increasing size.

I know it's hard Sara, but I'm cutting out alcohol for the next two weeks, with the exception of 2 days (tomorrow and next Weds....date night and a golf outing). I understand the empty calorie thing. Also, I'm beginning to believe the concept of the Abs Diet more & more (more frequent eating to keep that "full" feeling, but healthier & smaller portions). Although I'm not a dietician, from what I've read the foods you've listed are good.

Yeah, more weight training aids in the burning of fat. Plus, muscle weighs more than fat, so you may not reach your weight goal, but clothes should fit better, and you'll get the tone, sexy look you're searching for. Although I firmly (pun intended) believe in the weight training thing, I haven't done much recently. I have some golf tournaments upcoming and don't want to screw with my swing too much until these are over. So, come early May I'm going to ease into some weight training.

Good Luck.

That's good to hear, Kajun. With the exception of two days, I don't plan on drinking until Apr. 28. I hope that, coupled with my running and diet change will get me to my 195 lb target (currently 202).

Hey Sara, was this the washboard stomach you were shooting for?

Soft drinks will kill your diet.  Watch out for mixers (coke, 7up...) they have hidden calories on top of the alcohol.  Plain old water will do the trick and it will help curb your appetite.

Good luck HC.  Of course, we all want to see before and after pics.

Actually there is a great balanced diet out there that my wife HAD to go on when she was preganant ( she got diabetes with the pregnancy)...it was weird and tough to follow, but hse really managed to maintain her weight and it was really healthy...

oh, wait no cuttin' out drinking for you , so throw that out the window.....

Ok, when you drink , only do bacardi (any rum) and DIET coke or diet 7up.... or just do tequila shots and have water in the middle of them (probably the best)...

eat more apples in your diet (with the yogurt) and add a couple almonds to that (added protein)

Add another snack between lunch and dinner..

and if you feel WAY hungry, have a very small snack...

ALWAYS remember Suma wrestlers only eat 1 meal a day sometimes to bulk up! A HUGE one, then the rest of the day they starve and their body goes into stravation mode and KEEPS EVERYTHING!.....

Think about it!

Good luck!

When I'm watching calories/carbs but still imbibing, I stick to PREMIUM vodka....Ketel One, Grey Goose, Belvedere, etc....on the rocks or "up" (martini glass/no ice)...maybe a dash of lime/lemon juice.....yer classic extra-dry martini (don't want to add vermouth to such quality stuff).

Remember, a martini is two drinks in one and you can have a damn good time on just a fewa them babies O0 (and party in style).....plus it REALLY assuages the hangover with such quality stuff.

I agree....I love a good martini...hold the salad, please! So if I just ex-nay the Vermouth and use lime/lemon juice I'd be doing better cutting back the calories?  Man I would be tanked though, I'm use to drinking Volume, so I'm gonna have to get use to drinking Less Volume, Higher quality (I'm a beer/wine drinker really)....when I go to the club there is always someone bumping into me spilling my drink...so I usually just have a beer because it's easier to handle in a crowded situation.

Yep!....not only less volume = less calories....but high quality vodka is the purest of alcohol =  no sugar by-products, etc......it's really the lesser-of-two-evils and the next choice other than total abstenance IMHO when trying to lose weight.

Well, I'm sticking to the diet...I'm running at least 3 times a week. Although I haven't started weight trainning yet, I am down to 130. I did drink way too much wine this weekend and still managed to lose the weight, so I think I'm gonna stick with wine and vodka (thanks Robmeister  ;) )  Thank you all for the support and the advice!!! I don't want to get sentimental on you guys...but I do love this forum and I love all of you!!!  :@` Thanks again!

Guys, I have a book that I borrowed from a friend who was dropping their mid section at a noticeable pace. The book is called YOU: On A Diet  The Owner's Manual for Waist Management  Written by Michael F. Roizen, MD and another MD. Anyway, I am 6'2 and around, well maybe 185 now and have never needed to diet, but I wanted to get rid of my love handles in the mid section. This book has you measure your waist and judge yourself that way, by inches and not weight. It explains how to eat healthy and lose your waist. One key I see is to eating nuts (be nice) for snacks and also before you eat your meal. I like almonds, so I throw a handfull in my mouth before every meal. It helps to fill you up quicker. Anyway, might be some good reading material if you want to lose some inches. Hot Cajun, this might be something to help you, the biggest loss comes in 2 weeks before you taper out to a slower decline.
Also let me add, I have no investments in this book... It is helping me become more sly, so who else would I share this info with!!

Sara...cardio in any form is going to help you with a definite emphasis on your diet, which you seem to be doing! You may not want to hear this, but cutting out alcohol is going to help you get to where you want to be. Alcohol slows down your metabolism a whole lot. You don't need a whole lot of weight training, just do 10-15 reps for your arms and shoulders, maybe 2 or 3 exercise each. Running, treadmill, exercise bike, a drink lots of water...you have a definite attainable goal, and patience will get you there.

I was in Saudi Arabia for 2 months when I was inb the Air Force and we couldn't drink at all, all I did was eat every 2-3 hrs, sleep at least 7hrs, and work-out, 3 days on, 1 day off. I was in the best shape of my life and I never had a six pack before then...

Cut out the alcohol...it will help...

HC, I feel ya.  I am a Beer Snob, but the first thing that had to go when I got serious was the Beer.  :'(

It sucks, but when you reach your goal & you take the first sip of a Cold One while out rockin' your new look, It all becomes worth it.  It just becomes more motive to work harder, so you hit your goal sooner.
