Title: Hats caps and coverings
Post by: Dragon on April 05, 2016, 04:09:05 PM
With summer coming and as a new 'potential sly', what hats/caps/headgear are people wearing?

Just sunscreen for me, I like my sly dome to be visible.

Bandanas or do rags.

They cover the dome, fold up in my pocket, and keep sweat out of my eyes.

Since you brought up bandanas, is there a place besides walmart or amazon to get them?

In the states a great place to get them is at a farm supply store like Farm and Fleet or Tractor Supply

Might sound odd, but craft stores like Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's usually have a good selection.

I'll only use it for grass cutting or fishing. Not really formal dinner wear.

If it's sunny out I'll usually wear a baseball cap. Otherwise nothing. I like the feel of the breeze on my scalp.

Usually nothing as I like to show my bald head.
When I have to spend much time in the sun I use sunscreen. I get a bandana only when the sun is strong, such as in the mountains while I hike or at the beach after few hours.

Its a good thing I happened upon this thread.  Im about a week off from my 30 days of sly, going into my first spring/summer with a shaved head.  Hadn't thought about some headware for long term sun exposure- not sure I own anything worth wearing out right now!

Timely thread; I've been bummed out about headwear.
I like wearing baseball caps, but they just don't seem to look right on my head now that I'm clean-shaven. But I know I should protect my scalp from sunburn, so I'm trying to figure out what to do.
Thanks for the link, jbrit25.

Even if you wear a baseball cap, you will still need sunscreen.  Otherwise, you will end up with a burn through the opening in the back of the cap where the adjusting band goes through, and a few tiny spots through the ventilating eyelets.

This will also be my first summer sly. Will probably go the sunscreen only  route since i hate wearing a hat or any head covering, except for when required, like at work, or on occasions where a hat might be considered the socially accepted norm, though i cannot think of any example of that in these modern times. However i do find that since going sly, i tend to prefer to hear a hat of some sort when im around certain family members. Not sure why i feel that way, just that i do.

I have a collection of fitted and snapback caps, some of which are monogrammed. There's a store called Lids, that sells various kinds of caps and hats, and you can get them monogrammed for $10 per side. Some Lids stores even sell matching shirts if you want to color coordinate.
