Great goal Marshall! Let us know what we can do to help you achieve it.
I am hoping to lose 5 pounds a month
Hey!
Thanks for the encouragement! I just went to the doctor and found I am still NOT diabetic.....yet. My blood sugar is 117. Diabetic is 126.
One thing that I am afraid of is being too hard on my feet. Currently I work all day on concrete floors and my left foot hurts. So I am hoping that it won't be an issue in terms of doing cardio. I don't know if I have gout or something. I guess I need to talk to the doctor about that.
Well guys, I can't say that I have made any effort yet on the fitness challenge. I am shooting for starting the New Year by going to the gym. Also the second week of January, my boss and I are going to do a weight loss challenge.
Too bad that there aren't any of you in Seattle to work out with! But I am lousy at time management. That is the biggest problem in terms of my not working out. But I am not giving up!

That is one of the reasons I signed up with a personal trainer -- to have someone who would force me to push myself harder, and also because I knew that if I'd made a fairly substantial financial investment and had already had a standing appointment with someone, then I wouldn't just blow off going to the gym. Might be something you could try. Even if you did it on a short-term basis, it could help you get into the habit of going to the gym, and the trainer can also help you find the best routine to meet your goals.
Well, I should say that I had been on a plateau. But the plateau is now over. As of today (the 11th of March), I have lost 9 lbs. I have also started exercising more regularly by going to the gym and going swimming. So hopefully I will be slim and sly by the end of the year!
This last year has been pretty stressful and I use food as a comfort.
I am wanting to get back to the gym and start eating properly. I do have one more hurdle. Sunday, friends are taking me out for a belated birthday dinner to the Cheesecake Factory. Free food, including cheesecake is something that I won't turn down. But I know that continual splurges are not good. So I am hoping to become more disciplined after that.
I have to say that my weaknesses are things like KFC extra crispy are downfalls as are really crunchy onion rings. Also Cold Stone Creamery and Dairy Queen are dangerous places for me!
....I am trying to make more sensible choices. I now have lost 15 lbs. So I am feeling better about things.
I am learning about portion control. The other day, my boss brought in pizza for us to eat.
I usually have 3 or 4 slices at a sitting. But I had already packed a lunch so I had my salad but not my soup. I had ONE slice of pizza. I ended up taking more slices but with the intention of eating them over a period of several days. So I supplemented my food budget but supplemented each slice of pizza with salad and fruit. I even ended up losing weight even while eating pizza. Again, I have also been exercising.

Well, here is another update! I am happy to say that I have lost 18 lbs. I had hit the plateau and was stuck at the 15 lb mark. But as of this morning I was 227 lbs. I had been 245. I am NOT giving up! I am still going to the gym too. I have also heard that the best weight loss is a slow one. But as long as I am still losing, I am happy!
On that post, Saintc challenged me to not just HOPE to exercise but to DO it.

Sounds like you heard the message, keep moving, keep moving, what you don't put in your mouth counts as much as what you do. Marsh1000, if you think I'm going to give you any easy pass into full blown T2, check this, NEVER.
Saintc.
Treats and fatterning stuff are only very OCCASIONALLY eaten!
By the way, I nominate Saintc the "Sly Diabetic Drill Sargeant"!
But for any of you diabetics who are on Metformin, have you experienced weight gain? I just went on that and have been bouncing back and forth with about 5 pounds. I don't want to get discouraged but it bites. I really want to break the 20 pound weight loss mark that I have already acheived.Pharmacist checking in...
I have a problem with -pasta - -I could eat it at every meal but now - - once a week
Congrats to Marsh on your great progress!
Tom, you can do it as well, get going man! O0

This morning, I FINALLY broke through the plateau!!!! I now have lost 21 lbs!!!!! I also have already been to the gym 4 times this week! That was my goal was at leat 4 times a week of exercise. But I will try to get at least one more time in before midnight Saturday!
Today I have hit the 22 POUND weight loss mark! . But if I generally keep going in the downward direction, I will be happy!
On Thursday, my dear stepmother told me about a Oprah show about Diabetes. I was not near a TV to watch it. But I went on her website and found a lot of good info about it. So if anyone is interested in what Diabetes is and what it does to your body, please read this:

By the way, I am headed to the gym after this!
Yay!!! I lost my 23rd pound today!
We all fall off the wagon once in a while Marsh. The trick is getting right back on.

As of this morning, I have lost THIRTY pounds!!!!Congrats! I gained a pound so you have now officially caught up with me (not that there was a race or anything!)
The only bad part is now I need to go out and buy new pants -- most of mine no longer fit.Or maybe push back from the table & follow Marshd1000's awesome example? >:D You're setting the mark Marshd1000, they'd better shape up.

The reason my pants no longer fit is because I've lost 30 pounds.

For dress pants (as opposed to jeans or chinos) you could have them altered.Yes, it's the dress pants that I'm mostly worried about. Luckily I have a pretty good tailor nearby. I just need to go through my closet, trying each pair on and figuring out which ones I can get away with and which need to be tailored.
Maybe you could hook up with the Army and get a few shirts like BB.That'd be a lot of work just to get a T-shirt! 8)
Just a quick update....I have lost my 31st pound!!! I am 214....down from 245!!!!There's just something about that 31st pound, isn't there!

The morning fasting numbers range from the 80's to the low 100's. Occasionally have been in the 110's.

I know I have not posted here for awhile. I have fallen off the wagon and had not been to the gym since Feb. I also have gained 7 pounds. That was a wake up call! I just happened to wake up at 3:30 this morning. With that, I headed to the gym. I had also been eating junk. I am quitting that habit and only do it sparingly. My blood glucose numbers have still been good thankfully. But I am NOT giving up! I will keep you posted!

My numbers have been in the 90's to low 100's. But there had been some stress with work and finances. Things are better on that. But I admit that food is a comfort to me much like alcohol, drugs and tobacco are comforts to some. I am a food addict and I know that. But I appreciate all the support guys. Eventually you are going to see a thinner sly Marsh here!

I know lots of people who were big and husky that have slimmed way down . . "They look terrible now"-- thin with loose skin..............Dont over do it ......
Heck , I think your lookin good in your avatar.................. b!@h
T My last A1C I think was in Feb. I have another next Monday. I want to at least get down to 180 but hopefully 165.Just remember A1C is the "look back" so it responds more slowly to your new healthy life style. Damn, you're soon going to be pushing me :D, I cannot get below 201 for anything--sewing my lips shut has passed my mind.

I weigh myself once a week, every Saturday morning at the same time and under the same circumstances. That's the only way to get an accurate reading of the trend.
Got some good news from the doctor in the mail this morning. I got my test results for my blood glucose levels. To be honest, I don't understand everything. But it was at 6. There was also a encouraging note from the doctor saying my blood glucose levels were normal. She was very happy at the way I have been taking care of myself. So I am pretty encouraged to ramp things up and start taking more weight off!

Do you really understand how awesome this is, one tenth of a pont lower on the AIc and you can be considered not diabetic, just pre-diabetic--

Post-diabetic, actually. ;)
I am disappointed in myself. I haven't made it to the gym lately. But on the good side, I am in a weight loss competition with my boss. I am starting to eat properly. But I know that the exercise has to start happening. Too bad that there aren't any of you in Seattle to work out with! But I am lousy at time management. That is the biggest problem in terms of my not working out. But I am not giving up!
That sounds like a great lunch! The Laura's ground beef is pricey but good. Have you tried the TVP from Bob's Red Mill? It comes dried, and it works out to about half the price of regular ground beef. The texture is just like the real thing, and it's very good replacing half (or even all) of your ground meat in highly seasoned dishes. Plus, it's fat free! :)
Just thought I'd pop on over here and give you a cheer! Don't be discouraged about a small gain....I still go up and down a few pounds myself, but the main weight loss is slow and steady.
As of today, I have lost 4 of the 7 pounds that I had gained back. I also went on a 7 mile bike ride yesterday! So I am hoping that soon, I will be below 214 pounds, the least I have weighed on this weight loss journey!
