You all may remember the 18 month beard journey that I had. Anyway, I am thinking of doing it again. I last trimmed the beard in mid- July. I am hoping that maybe my beard will grow longer if I quit running my fingers through it!
-
I like the beard the way it is now, but if it makes you happy, go for the epic beard again. That was pretty cool. What made you cut it?
-
Epic!!!! Epic is the way to go!!!
-
Go for it. It is an amazing beard now. I will stick with my goatee salt and pepper and all.
-
Why ask? Just DO IT!
-
Ha, ha.....I wasn't asking anyone if I should do it! I was questioning myself if I would follow through. But I am more comfortable in my own skin more and more to see that being a bald and big bearded man is part of who I am! BTW....DoberDaddy, you are a great role model for that look, whether your head is shaved or you let the fringe grow!
-
Marsh, we would love to start seeing your epic beard updates again. Keep us posted.
-
I will eventually post photo updates! But I am getting serious beard envy by catching up reading the "Show Us Your Beard" posts. Also I am super motivated by having attended the World Beard and Mustache Championship in Portland, OR this past weekend! I am hoping to get the beard considerably longer than my 18th month beard! Possibly terminal!

Here is my beard at the 9 month mark. I know it has been a long time since I have posted. So I thought you would like to know that I am doing fine and to see my beard progress. I am hoping to go terminal this time!

Well, this wasn't the picture I had wanted to upload!
Tyler....Help! I just posted this current pic from my PC and this picture is sideways! Can you fix these? What I am doing wrong?
-
Maybe the 3rd time is the charm?
-
Finally, I got the pictures to upload properly! Anyway, while I am a casual dresser, my favorite photo is my Easter Sunday morning picture. To me it shows how classy the Sly and Long Bearded look is while paired with a nice shirt, tie, jacket and slacks.
-
Nice pictures and beard, Marsh!
-
Looks like it's growing strong!
-
Marsh, you have reached epic again. Congratulations! Plan on keeping it this time?
-
Looks great.
Roger

Not only do I plan on keeping it, I want to grow it considerably longer. I think I found my signature look! In fact, this past Christmas I played Santa at the local food bank that I volunteer at. So other than my fat stomach, which I plan on losing, I like looking like Santa!
-
Fantastic, marsh!

O0

epic beard for the win.
-
Marsh... looks amazing.
I am shaved again.
Steve

That's a great example of a longer beard! It's full and well shaped. If you do eventually go for a terminal beard for the challenge and find it's just too much beard, just remember pics like this and scale it back after the challenge is over instead of destroying it entirely.
-
Now that's a beard!
-
Looks great!
-
Here is my beard as of yesterday!

So Razor, have you thought of joining me on the Epic Beard Journey?
-
looks awesome mate, I'm currently seeing how far I will go with the beard, I was always a short trimmed beard, i got to nearly this point once before and shaved it off and got lots of questions about what happened, here it is.
(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs24.postimg.org%2Fo4vzzga91%2F11251688_10152916102391801_2000949912_n.jpg&hash=b3011d7c880fcda66a9312a8a3ca4509c05a72aa) (http://postimage.org/)
Also how old do you guys think I look? A friend seems to think i look much older than I am, but his taste doesn't count cos he's balding too and wont man up and do anything about it :P
-
So Razor, have you thought of joining me on the Epic Beard Journey?
I've thought about it but I don't think it would be a popular choice at the office. :(
-
Quiet_Dan, of course my opinion is that your beards looks better grown out (the bigger the better). I think a thick beard will make a otherwise young looking guy look older, buy not so much for a guy over 30 or so. The beard suits you well.
-
Quiet Dan, nice beard there! The glasses are a nice touch. Without being able to see your scalp I would give you about 28-32 years old. (I don't know how old you really are)
-
Marsh, as always, your beards are outstanding!
-

Thank You Sir!, the glasses are my work ones, i usually wear glasses with a bit heavier frame off work, I'm completely shaved on my scalp hence the hat cos its been cold down here, I turn 30 this year so you hit it right on the head!
-
Marsh,
It's been couple of months, how about an update?
Steve
-
I am about to hit my yeard. I have a friend who just got his barber license and is bearded and beard friendly. So I am going to have him trim the sides. But I have no intentions of this beard being short. I think I found my look as a Sly and long bearded dude! I will post a fresh pic soon. But I want to go for terminal length and keep it that way!
-
Very jealous. Amazing.
However when I get much longer than the avatar I find it looks a mess so trim it down.
-
Nuts, All beards go through a scruffy looking stage when growing out. So if you want to give a long beard a try, you just need to be patient through that stage until it gets enough length for the hairs to start laying and hanging down. That could take up to 4 months or more of growth depending on how fast your beard grows.
-
Here's the Yeard at 7 inches!
-
Steve,
How many inches is your beard? You have the style worth emulating my friend!
-
Here's the heard at 7 inches!
Good job, Marsh! When do you reach "yeard" status?
-
When I had the last epic beard, I had never totally shaved it off. I just went short. But I don't remember the exact date that I had last trimmed it. But the last trim was roughly about now. So I would say I am about Yeard status now!
-
Here is the Epic Beard at 13 months! I did get the sides trimmed. I am planning on the length going terminal. I plan on keeping a extremely long beard and the shaved head as my permanent look!
-
Wow! Amazing.
-
Lovely full beard
-
Congratulations, Marsh! I admire your perseverance.
-
Looks nice. Even with an epic beard, an occasional trim is warranted, not to shorten the beard, but to trim up the stragglers. Not all hair grows at the same rate.
You have a nice signature beard.
-
Congratulations, Marsh! I admire your perseverance.
Razor, why don't you grow out that beard? You'd make a awesome Viking!
-
Now Marsh; there is no way that you may cut that beard until after Christmas!
-
At this point, I don't plan on cutting the beard. The shaved head and hopefully terminal beard is now my image. There will only be side trims. This beard is meant to be long!
-
Congratulations, Marsh! I admire your perseverance.
Razor, why don't you grow out that beard? You'd make a awesome Viking!

You should do it while you have that red/white mix going on!!!
:)
-
It would have been better when it was solid red.
-
It looks great with both colours in it.
-

Yes, so people keep telling me. I'd rather not have the white, but it is what it is. :) I live with it but I don't love it.
-
Razor, that is funny that you had a Viking helmet! Are you Scandinavian?
-

I'm Irish but most Irish people have some Viking in their DNA. That's where the red hair comes from.
-

Know what you mean.
The other day, someone asked if I dye my moustache and handlebars. The goatee rather is grey these days, while 'tache has my original hair colour (whatever that actually was :-\)

Next time tell them you ran out of dye after the mustache was done or you would have colored everything. 😜

That's a great response, Razor X. I'll be using that one.
It'll make a change from the septum piercing party trick.

Here's my beard at 15 months. My noggin is now fully slick again after finding how much head hair Mother Nature naturally took away!
-
Getting better with every update, Marsh.
-
Impressive, Marsh!

Nice! I went SLY again... now just need to grow back the beard!!!
-
Dober, my beard went into mourning when you cut yours off! HaHa! Your beard was great! The bald/beard combo really worked for you! I am guessing you got some regret going on cutting it off? Anyway, I know you can get back to the same bearded awesomeness that you had before and could easily exceed that! But either way, do what makes you comfortable and happy!
-
I'm calling this the Epic Beard Again.....Santa Update! So here are pictures of me as Santa and also getting in the Christmas Spirit. I should say that I serve once a month at a local food bank so I now serve as their Santa. Also on Black Friday, I was at Seattle's Pacific Place Mall and was approached by an attendant for the mall Santa kiosk about being a Santa. I work full time at Boeing, so I am sure that my lack of availability probably killed those chances. But they also did the mall Santa operations at Alderwood Mall and Westwood Village Mall, locally. I was flattered that I got asked. But a friend who is an engineer at Boeing told me that I probably need to talk to HR before I ever said yes to doing a paid Santa gig! So I will ask for next year!

I should also mention that I am almost at my 18th month mark in terms of not trimming the bottom, other than stragglers. It was at that point the last time where I did a major trim. At this point, I am very comfortable with being a bald long bearded guy. I think this is my signature look. Besides I am digging looking like Santa and want to keep that look all year long....except for the tummy!
-
Great looking Santa , but why would you have to get permission to play the part ?
-
And an excellent Santa you make!
-
Great Santa pic, March. O0
-
I know that for the engineers, which I am not, there is a moonlighting rule. Not sure there would be a problem playing Santa for pay. But I know they are absolutely cool with volunteerism of the nature that I did!
-
Looks great, Marsh. I am sure Boeing would not have an issues of you being Santa, but I would advise them of you intent just in case. The Engineer rule at most companies is to make sure the Engineers do not moonlight for a competitor or in any way let out any trade secrets or designs. So Santa would likely be approved. I do not think they would be concerned about you explaining Boeing trade secrets to the kids.

:DOk, here is my beard at 19 months! This is the longest I have ever grown it! But I am getting impatient for the beard to "drop".
BTW....I know the image thumbnail is showing sideways. If you click on it, it should be right side up!

No worries....while I am impatient, I love having a long beard! I was very impressed with the long beard you had. I want to go that long and longer and keep it that way. As long as my employment situation is the same, I really would like to keep the long beard as my permanent look!
-
Nice!
-
Razor, you mighty Viking.....you ought to join me on the quest for a long beard!

It's been a long time since I have posted! But in early April, my beard will be 21 months old, in terms of not trimming! Unless something comes up where I am laid off of work, I plan on continuing to grow it until it can't grow any further. I would like it to grow past my chest if possible and keep it as my permanent look, along with my sly noggin! If you click on the photo, it will turn right side up!
-
At this point, I am two months from having a tweard. I will eventually post another photo. The beard had gotten to be almost 8 inches long. But I have a barber friend that has kept me from homeless. So currently the beard is 6 inches long. The next trim is going to be just on the sides only. I am still planning on going ZZ Top long. So to be continued!
-
Great beard, is it still going strong?
-
(https://s18.postimg.org/kf8mlli0p/image.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/8dd8rg8s5/)
Yes, the beard is going strong. I don't plan on trimming. I wish the growth would go faster! But I want a ZZ Top beard in the worst way! But now I can safely say that it is now at 8 inches. I can't wait how for a foot long beard!
-

Just mhy opinion but I like it much better in your avatar. It is well groomed and rounded on the bottom which really complements the symmetry of your head. You look as good in your avatar as good artwork depictions of Santa Claus - I am serious about that.
-
When I see a man with a large or long beard that is well kept admire his determination, patience and discipline for keeping it looking good. Personally I have had a little circle beard kept very short for years and now I am letting it grow for the winter with my cheeks too. I want to try for a few months and see how it looks. So far very grey but I am in my 50's. I am at that stage where it looks very nasty with hairs going all over the place. I must persevere and not give up. The fellows with large beards I know have told me once you reach the four month mark it should smooth out and look better. Who knows, perhaps a yeard.
-
It's look great! :D Im very impressed, Yesterday I was watching this site with nice beard styles http://www.gillette.co.in/en-in/shaving-tips/facial-hair-styles/beard-styles And I though I would like to have one of these styles but now I have too thin facial hairs
-
The beard is still going strong! I even took a selfie with Yellowstone’s Old Faithful! But the long beard is here to stay! I want to get it to terminal length. But after that there may be a minor trim. Who knows, I might enter a competition! But I do get beard compliments now!

Impressive. Even the geyser behind you is acknowledging your achievement.
-
WOW!
Way to go, Marsh! I have been following your beard for YEARS!!! This is great.
Steve
-
Steve,
You have had beard greatness too! So while yours is shorter, it still looks great! So a compliment from you means a lot! Thanks!
-
Indeed you should be getting plenty of compliments because your beard deserves it.
-
Awesome beard, I can only hope to have one that good one day.
-
Well, I should say that after about 3 years of no trims, I have finally trimmed the beard down. It seems that it had hit terminal length of about a foot for the longest strands. But the beard was doing a strange “fork” thing. I really didn’t care for that look! So I got a nice tasteful trim. The beard is still long but doesn’t look ratty now! So here’s the before and after!
(https://i.postimg.cc/XvjKRYkZ/21-E3-DE5-F-98-FA-4-AE4-AB8-E-4-C024441-C288.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
-
Looks a lot tidier. O0
-
Looks good. the trim job makes the beard look thicker and makes you look just a bit more "stylish".
-
Awesome... I noticed you shaved your head, too.
I agree with @Semi-Sly your beard looks thicker with the trim.
I get to terminal length, and it's like six hairs at the end. At some point... it looks better, shorter.
-
Yep, indeed, the head is shaved again!! When I started shaving my head, I was not terribly bald. I had a bit of recession. I was balding but still had a bit of hair left. So in the past few years, I had occasionally grown out the fringe for a short time to see how naturally bald I was. I had never gone beyond two months in terms of growth. So I had wanted to experience being a naturally MPB man. I had even thought of growing out a ponytail! But the sly look kept calling me! I think I look good with MPB but I think I look better Sly!
-
Looks good @marshd1000
I also start getting the fork when I allow more length. While at one time I was on a quest for growing as long as I could (terminal), it just does not look good on me with the few strands that actually get long combined with the fork. Now, I keep it trimmed just shorted than the length where the fork normally starts for me. You are blessed to still have substantial length after the trim.
-
Looking good Marsh! I really like your newly shaved head. I'll get it feels great to be smooth again. It's a much cleaner look.
-
@marshd1000 the trim looks great and so does the freshly shaved head!
-
I admire your moustache also; it adds style. And I think that you look younger with your head shaved and your beard, than with the MPB fringe and the beard.
-

Tyler, I hope that this summer we can have a pic together with our Sly domes! I am hoping to be in the Bay Area!
-
@marshd1000 I look forward to it!
