Just out of curiosity...how many of you guys have your ear pierced? If so do you have only one (presumably left) or both pierced? hoop rings or studs? A friend says that a man can wear studs in both ears, but a hoop belongs in the left ear only...he also said that a man should NEVER have the right ear only pierced/with an earring....I don't know if this was brought up previously, but I'm contemplating getting a piercing once my military career is over....Thoughts?
-
I have 3 (2 in the left, 1 in the right), but haven't worn them much in the past year.
Ironically, I was more excited about them when I was in the military and now that I'm out...not so much.
-
I've heard the LEFT ear if you only have one, but that's the ear I always use when talking on the phone. I don't think that I would like that.
This has turned out to be a moot point, as you can see that I have a left earring! now.
-
I don't think it really matters anymore, I remember toward the end of high school over 20 years ago that being "the rule"...
Back then having one in your left meant you were straight.
-
Thankfully, that gay/straight labeling is passé.
I had one (a 10g bent barbell) back in the mid-90's. The hole got infected so I let it close up. I had originally planned to have the other ear done as well.
I really like the look of two bent barbells or heavy hoops on guys.
-
right ear pierced twice, left one once, I pierced them back in 1988 when it was "gay" to have only the right one pierced. I hadn't worn any in years but about 4 months ago decided to gauge them. I don't wear anything in the second one of the right ear, but now have 6 gauges in both ears and have studs in both. (see my gauging thread).
Further, I don't think it doesn't matter which ear or how many times they are pierced.
-
I personally like the symmetry of having both ears pierced. I really liked the look of heavy captive ball rings like I had in this pictures.

Like tattoos piercing can get addictive. I now have stretched to 00ga (about 10mm or 3/8 inch) and wear black silicone tunnels.

-
I had three segments in my left ear about a year ago. I made it up to #2 guage. However, heavy rings tend to stretch the lobe. I can't see me dragging the loops on the floor, so I took them out for now.
-
I don't read too much into the "right ear only means you're gay thing" In fact, I'm amazed at how everyone accepts everyone on this site! Getting back to topic, as I said earlier one of my personal favorites would have to be a hoop in the left ear a la Mr. Clean
-
I got my left ear pierced at 10g in October 2010. I liked it a lot, and then I got my right ear pierced in January 2011. I liked that even better. Like Red said, the symmetry of having both ears pierced looks nice.
Since then I've stretched my piercings to a 4g and wear metal tunnels or blue stone plugs.
-
Hey Red,
The earrings look great on you. I like the symmetry of having one on both sides.
-
I have 3 (2 in the left, 1 in the right).
Same here. I normally wear a captive ball in the lower piercing in the left ear, occasionally another in the right. I haven't worn 3 in quite a while.
-
One piercing; left.
Sometimes a stud (small diamond), sometimes a small hoop, sometimes a captive ball. Sometimes nothing. My most recent picture is w/o any earring, but I have just put back the captive ball--out too long, and the somewhat shrunken hole made insertion a struggle, but the thing's in and I'll probably leave it for a month or so.
-
Currently only my right earlobe is pierced, I never gave any thought to it about the right ear being the 'gay' ear (well, I am anyway, so it doesn't really matter). I just chose that side for 'balancing out' my piercings because I also have 2 piercings through my left clavicle. Currently wearing a small black earplug (5mm stretch).
Since shaving my head I've been thinking about getting my left ear pierced, too. Right now my face seems kind of asymmetric due to the earplug drawing all the attention to my right earlobe.
-
I have both lobes pierced, now at 6 mm. The rings, as seen in my avatar, are really heavy. The left ear hurts a bit after a few hours of wearing so I would wear them for special occasions only. For everyday use I got silicone tunnels (in silver) based on Red's recommendation in another thread.
-
Left ear only I wear a hoop.
-
I have both done, I liked the symmetry of both. I wear captive bead rings, although I have barbells if required. I had them pierced at 12ga.
-
Found one of my ear rings (of the many lost) and thought I would see if any holes closed up...to my surprise, none have.
-
Have regular-sized one on the left and wear a stud occasionally. Would like to do both and gauge a little, but wife completely not thrilled by that concept.
-
I have 3, 2 in left & 1 in right. I'm with Red, I too like the symmetry & I agree heavy ball rings are excellent with a shaved dome. The 2nd in my left ear is a classic silver stud. I agree long gone are the time when piercings were an indicator of gay/straight. Piercings are addictive. For me it's a shaved head, steel capped boots & piercings. Would love a tart but have not the courage, yet!
-
I was talking to most of the guys in my bowling league over the last month (the league is so large I'd never be able to catch everyone in one night) I found out that most guys with piercings under 30 either wore stud earrings and/or multiple other piercings, guys from about 30-45 mostly wore either studs or hoops in one or both ears, and guys above 45 wore a stud or hoop in the left ear only...Not all of the guys were sly(though there were many), but I was talking about the piercings. I think once guys hit a certain age, they tend to wear fewer piercings...my 0.02
-
I was told early on about the difficulties that might come with heavy rings. I'm very tall and the look of the heavy stuff is flattering. However, what looks good and what I like are at variance. Also, my ears are quite close to my skull and so any piercing has to be done so they'll hang more or less parallel to my head. My solution, and one I like, is to have cuffs that have some bulk but are close fitting and don't wave in the wind. I have both done and, for whatever reason, have never cared for studs.
-
I have both ears pierced and stretched. I don't think I'm OCD or anything, but it would drive me nuts if I only had one side done. Hah, maybe I am a bit OCD.
-
Both ears pierced, and the left one twice. I had my ears gauged up to 1" at one point. now only wear diamond studs.
-
Left ear only here. 2 holes rarely wear anything in them now
-
Left ear pierced since 2009 with a small black diamond, but in this moment i haven´t it any earring.
-
Both ears pierced mainly left side depends what mood im in to have bothe earings or studs
-
I have 2 in the left ear. I only wanted one. But, I had to buy both earrings. So I got two.
-
both...but hardly wear them anymore. Being military, the chances of you forgetting to take the out increase two fold...lol. When I do get the urge to wear 'em, studs.
-
I have had my left done for around 30 years. Normally wear a small stud or a cool (at least I think) Scottish saltire. I don't wear it at work and tend to forget to put it in at other times.
-
Here's a pic w/both earrings in...

Both done, hoop in each. Keeps me balanced while riding :*))
-
Started with four, three in one one in the other, but one fell out and closed up lol, if I'm to so lazy later I will post a pic!
-
Earings do look good with a chromedome but not too big hoops on some guys looks silly
-
Both ears stretched to 1/2 inch. I like hearing the wind blowing thru my holes when I am riding my motorcycle. (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/gallery/1437_17_05_12_1)

That must be really awesome so long as you dont go deaf
-
Left one only (after losing a bet 15 years ago at university). Very rarely wear a stud.
-

Have 2 in the left and one in the right. Anymore I wear a captive hematite ball small in the left (healing power ;) ) and a 1/4 kt. diamond above that. I used to wear in my left ear a (22 Hornet Live Shell or a Silver one. But when your ridding a Harley at 70- and up dern just about got beat to death :D But it was good. I just had to big of ear lobe, when you do something life that make sure they are smaller lobes or they look like a ole lady with saggy bobbies ;) which is :-X. I have had big gauge bar bells , captive rings etc..
-
I've got both ears pierced but only wear one earring, a diamond stud in my left ear.
-
Lots of modification threads on this site...
being a piercer I have had experience with having all things pierced....
and gauged (sized)
both my ears were at one time a bit larger than 1'
(now they look like cat a$$holes hahaha)
but yes the feeling of air while on the bike is pretty cool :D
-
both lobes...they work so well with the sly look
-
I wear them on both too and love the feeling when they swing, especially thicker hoops.
-
I was going to post this in "Bald, bearded, keeping the earrings" thread...but I thought it might be a better fit here. Last Sunday in Church, I saw a guy with a full-blown horseshoe cropped close, but he was clean-shaven and had an earring in the left ear only.......I think he would have looked better if he would have ditched the horseshoe, got an earring in the other ear and grew a goatee (ok maybe the goatee might be pushing it), but then again, for some reason, a lot of guys keeping their horseshoes only wear one earring, while sly guys tend to wear two.....interesting.
-
I used to wear two silver sleepers in my left lobe, now i just have a hoop.
-
Used to wear 2 gauge tunnels in each ear let them close for a job, as I no longer have that job I'm thinking about stretching my way up and putting them back in..the one in the left ear thing is something you don't see to often anymore
-
Old thread, and somewhat new here, but felt like chiming in; both ears, used to be gauged to a 4 with a captive bead... Then I let em close. Went back to it recently and tried out a pair I saw Howie Mandel wore in deal or no deal and got hooked. They're called 'huggies' and my local Walmart started selling them. 8.00/pair for stainless steel in all different designs. So now that's what I wear.

Those look sharp!
-
Hello Metalhead:
they look really good on you, (and I like the trimmed beard with them too). I am glad to see that more men are wearing earrings again.
-
5mm rings on both ears for me
-
Can we get a photo from the front showing both? -- I really like the heavy look of those.

The full beard totally transforms your look. Very sharp and the earrings just complete the look.

Great look from front and behind, looks great with the beard.

Looks good from all angles, Francesco! The leather jacket is a nice touch also!

I concur with everyone else on the look. Awesome!

Thank you everybody :)

I read that the current style is to have both your left and right ears pierced, the article I read said that having one ear pierced is very 90's and slightly dated stylewise. My personal feeling on this that if one ear is your thing then go for it, it's all about what makes you happy.

Wow! You all look very good with earrings! I personally love the balanced look of two earrings. I think they look the best on bald heads! O0
I'm shaving my head since June 2014. With that I got both ears pierced and wear 13x9mm earrings in both ears. They are heavy but I really like the feeling! At first I thought everyone is watching at me, but that's just normal in the beginning. Now I wear the at work, at School, anytime. If you want some, then get some! :) Too bad you don't see the earrings from the front side. :(

Got new earrings today. Stopped by my piercer and took out the small gold hoops and put in diamond studs - but quite small ones. I wanted to keep them small for a more demure, professional appearance. I didn't want to look like some pubescent kid which huge "Blingy" earrings!
These are far less likely to get caught in my helmet when I go on my bike trip in the morning.
On Sunday I will be back in the City to go to church. I may stop at my piercers afterward and purchase some black studs. Should I get them the same size as these? Bigger? Smaller?
-
Those are perfect. Very nice. I think you should stay with that size. They are visible but don't scream for attention.

That's my view as well. I currently have only my left ear pierced and wear a stud, but I am aware this is not the current fashion. I would like to wear earrings in both ears as this is the latest style.
I was sitting in my bosses office (a female mid 50's) and we have been friends for a few years. she noticed me start to wear my earring a few months ago. she said to me today. "You know if you had both ears pierced that would look more trendy. it would look good with your shaved head". I couldn't agree more! the only thing stopping me is my wife would be dead set against it.
not sure what to do. BTW I'm 50 and have only worn earrings for short periods over the last 30 years.
-
I got a set of black crystal earrings yesterday the same size as the "diamond" ones. They look good as well.

OK, so I got my right ear pierced and am wearing a black stud in my right ear to match my left ear. I am at work today and my boss (female) complimented me on it saying it looks good on me, wearing earrings in both ears. I will have a harder time convincing my wife. I may have to take it out tonight when my wife gets home as I'm not sure how she will react. But I will wear it again tomorrow when she is at work.

Congratulations! Post a picture!

The nice thing about diamonds or anything black is that they're versatile. They can be worn with anything.

I had to take out the earring in my right ear due to it was getting infected. It was sore and wasn't healing properly. I wore it from the Friday until the Monday. I wasn't using the proper type of piercing studs, just some cheap posts. Guess that's important to use the proper studs!
So, I'm still wearing one in the left ear and have changed it up a bit and am now wearing a small diamond stud. Not sure if I will go ahead and pierce the right ear again. i liked it but not sure if I want to do it at this time. I haven't ruled it out, just waiting for the right time.

So I've re-pierced my right ear and am currently wearing small black studs in both ears again. I've worn them to work this past week and no negative comments. People are getting used to me with both ears pierced. So far no infection, either. O0
Got a family function this afternoon. It will be interesting the reaction I get as they haven't seen me with both ears pierced. Not sure how they (my sisters and brothers in law) will take it :/O.
I'm trying to remain strong but if they react negatively, not sure what I will do. I'm a little worried about it actually, I know I shouldn't be, I'm a grown man.
-
OK, so I had 2 family functions in the past two days (Canadian Thanksgiving). No one at either said anything about the earrings. I know that my sisters noticed it. I saw them glancing at my right ear but they didn't say anything--at all. I guess it really is a non issue
anyway, I'm going to go out this week and look for either some huggie hoops or CBR's to wear once my right ear heals. I had a CBR 10 years ago when I was wearing my left earring only, but I lost the bead when I dug out my earrings this time around. I 'm not sure what gauge it was, I'm thinking 14 or 12.
it feels really great to be wearing earrings in both ears and it really fits with the sly look. I would like to encourage anyone who is thinking about piercing their ear to do both as it is more trendy. It is totally your choice of course and if you feel more comfortable with only one then that is perfectly fine as well.
-
So I'm still doing the two earrings thing and loving it.
A bit of an update. I had another compliment at work about my earrings, another co-worker noticed them last week in the lunch room. WE don't work too closely but have been working at the same place for years. Anyway, she saw me in the lunch room and said "are those new?" referring to the black studs I was wearing. I said that I have been wearing the one in my left ear for about 6 months but just pierced my right ear in September. She said it looked cool and that I looked better with both ears pierced, even for someone my age. As we ended our conversation she said "don't take them out, keep them they look cool." so that was a bit of a confidence boost.
As for my wife, she hasn't really said anything negative...yet about my earrings. I bought a silver chain bracelet and started wearing that a few weeks ago. It's a nice masculine looking bracelet. she noticed it one day and says jokingly "what's with all the jewelry...two earrings...bracelet, necklace? ". I just shrugged and said I like it. She didn't say anything else, so I guess she's not bothered by the earrings. she probably just thinks I'm crazy :px
I thought to myself at the time that I better stop buying more jewelry or I'll have to hand in my "man card" ;D
