Title: Should it stay or should it go?
Post by: beardedbaldgerman on December 23, 2008, 03:34:00 PM
I already asked you guys, if I should shave my head or not. This was when i head really short hair (like in one of the pictures). Now I have grown out my hair. But there is still this urge to shave it or at least buzz it really close... what should i do? most people like the longer haired me.  I would be very happy, if you would write some encouraging stuff an not only vote...  :-\

Go ahead and shave it. The look suits you very well.

In my opinion, judging between the 2 pictures, you definately look better with shorter hair. I think you should go ahead and shave it !  Give it 30 days and if you don't like it you could grow it back in a matter of a few days to the shorter version.   :)

You're a good looking dude, with hair or buzzed bald..

you want to be bald right now...who cares what others want for YOU..

Your life...your choice...

it's in your head to shave it..

go for it...

this time try it completely smooth bald though..

buzzed bald never compares to shaved slick bald! ;)

Here's another way to look at it.  Most guys look more aesthetic in a dress shirt and tie than in a T-shirt.  Yet you sure see a lot of guys wearing T-shirts.  The buzzed/shaved hairstyle is a lot like a white T-shirt.  Not as aesthetic as "full dress" hair but a lot more comfortable and practical.  The big difference is: a white T-shirt is not always acceptable (e.g. fancy restaurant, business office, church, etc.) whereas a shaved head is always OK.

You look significantly better with shorter hair...shave it down. If you dont like it it will look like your short picture in like 3 days...(at least mine grows fast like that)

1mm,

I think the buzzed look makes you look much more interesting.  With the hair, which looks okay, you look like quite a few other young fellas.

You've got the yen to machine it back, you already know what you look like, so do it!  While you're down to 1mm, why not lather up and take it down to the wood?  A weekend's growth will give you that 1mm if you don't like what you see.

There's your answer. There's only one way to make the urge to shave go away, and that's to shave.  You want to do it, so what other reason do you need?   The buzzed photo looked good -- you'd look phenomenal if you took it down to the skin.

I think shave it !

If you don't like it after 30 days you can always go down the buzz cut / 1mm route, but if you're anything like me you'll stay sly !

Happy Holidays !  :)

For the best of both worlds, shave on Friday and then by Monday you'll look like that first picture. Either way you own the buzzed look.

Personally, I would just clip it down with no guard. It gives you a more athletic appearance... Badass even.

I say shave it too.  The short hair looks great on you.  Slick bald would be even better.  There's nothing like it.  The buzzed look just isn't the same.  Do the deed and you'll be hooked, guaranteed.

Thank you for all the input. I am pretty sure, that i am going to buzz it after the holidays. I am a bit on the fence, because many people like the long hair. On the one hand my hair is very thick and unmanageable, on the other hand it is (at least) a bit receding (what you might not see in the picture with hair).

Anyway: Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!!!

Buzzed definitely gives you an edge that hair doesn't.  As the fellas have said, slick would be even better.  Add a goattee, and it's a whole new you.  Do what makes you happy; everyone else can adjust.

I'd go with shaved/buzzed.  It looks good on you.

Try it.  Apparently it grows back fairly quickly.

I know that shaving your head for the first time can be scary, but I really don't know how anyone can buzz as short as what you've shown in the first photo and resist the temptation to shave.   The first time I gave myself a zero-guard buzz, it was much shorter than I thought it would be.  After I took the first swipe of the clippers, I realized it was going to leave me practically bald but at that point I had no choice but to continue.  When I was done, I didn't have any intention of going any further.  But then I started thinking that if I shaved it, it would only mean about one extra day to grow out.  And the next thing I knew, I was lathering up my scalp and taking that first swipe with the Mach III.

Good for you MM.  I agree with the guys, you do look better with the buzz. Shaving is your option.  I say go for it.  It does grow back.

Good on ya, 1mm!  Looks great despite the wound.

Just curious -- the clippers that did the deed -- were they standard clippers w/ no guard, or a beard trimmer sort of thing?  My couple of years of no-guard buzzes with standard clippers never took out a chunk of flesh.  Ouch!

Whaddaya think guys, aloe vera?

Thank you! i really like it so far. probably shave it every now and then or keep it buzzed without a guard. have to stop shaving because of the nick anyway, at least for the next 2 days, or what do you guys think. thinking about growing that beard a bit longer...

there is noting like touching a smooth head!

Looks terrific.  Nicks and cuts are just part of the learning curve.  It should be OK in a couple of days.  Just shave around the wounded area until it heals.  You can go over the area lightly with an electric razor until it's healed enough to withstand the blade again.

Do the beard if you like the look with a bald head...

but don't do it because you feel naked now with only skin on top of your head.you'll get used to it bald!

Give it a few days before the nest shave..but after then I'd keep it slick every day for at least 30 days! O0

Ahh.  A blade shave.  I misunderstood one of your earlier posts and thought you were going to buzz it.  Yeah, blade(s) and blood -- often a part of some of the early shaves.  When I first blade-shaved my dome, I was simultaneously stoked and scared.  And a little bloody at times.  The sound of sharp metal rasping against the stubble made me a bit nervous.  I got over it.  Now it's music to my ears.

Hang in there.  Your techique will improve.  And doesn't a freshly shaved head feel the most awesome?

Sorry, I'm a little late.

But congrats, your bald shaved head looks very good for you!!  O0

The cut will heal in a few days. You can shave without any pressure on the blades after two or tree days. I did so after removal of a mole by laser-surgery. It was no problem.

Keep it sly. Enjoy your new look a the amazing feeling of a smooth fresh shaved head.  ::) ::) ::)

The best wishes for your new sly year.
