Since I've started shaving my head, its made me rethink how I shave my face. I've always thought I got a close shave on my face. However, it doesn't compare to the closeness I get with the HeadBlade on my head. My face gets stubly faster than my face.
It is making me wonder if I should notch back on the number of blades I use on my face. Has anyone else had this happen. Did the switch help with your facial shave?

I've found that it is much easier to shave my head than my face. My beard is very coarse and wiry, and rarely can I get a really smooth shave. There's always stubble right at the jaw line that I can't get rid of no matter what I do.

No help here. My face still doesn't shave as closely as my noggin. Always just assumed it was because the face doesn't have the bone of the skull to create a firm surface to shave on.

I hadn't thought of that, but that makes a lot of sense.

Head is much easier to shave than the face. It probably takes me longer to shave my face and it still doesn't get very smooth. I am also more likely to nick or cut my face. Before I used an electric on my face before I started shaving the dome. It is much better now with the manual razor.

Since i started shaving my head i have been trying to get as close as a shave with my face as i do with my head. I have tired many types of razor blades, gel, and creams and none of helped. So i did some searching on the web to find the best way and i came across that you can still buy shaving brushing that help apply the cream better to the face. So i got one of them and some good shaving cream and try it out. It did get me a closer shave but still not what im looking for. So i went on amazon.com and got myself a Merkur Heavy Duty Safety Razor and i'm still waiting for that to come in. Figure i would try how they use to shave before they had all the other razors you find today.

I shave my head every day and my face every other day during the work week. My neck tends to break out if I shave it everyday. I have found that if I get 3 or even 4 days growth on my face I can get a good smooth shave on my face if I use fresh blades and shave in every direction.

I'm like Rulon and have begun the DE route for my face. I picked up 3 Gelette Safety razors from a local antique store today, and am now waiting in some blades.

I have the same opinion as Razor. I find shaving my head easier than the face, especially underneath the jaw and on the lower neck in certain areas. It's almost like the couple of spots on the back part of my head in how you just can't get it no matter how you try, weird huh?
The hair must grow in an odd pattern or direction.

Yes; shaving the head is MUCH easier than the face. One of the (or the main) reason I went back to a beard is that while head shaving gives me NO trouble; -- no bumps, no cuts; no irritation ... -- when I shaved my face it felt aweful; sensitive; irritated, lots of little cuts ....

Hey cooncat, that's some collection you have there. The two before the last one on the upper shelf look like the ones my Dad used to use when I was a boy and I would watch him shave. I remember opening and closing the razor (minus the blade of course).
It brings back a lot of memories. I would love to be able to try one of these out, but in this day and age, and with time constraints, it doesn't fit in for me.
It's definitely a lost art.
By the way, nice goatee, mine is very similar but I don't have the stache'.

Boy I remember having one of those razors. The gap was adjustable and if it wasn't just right you were bleeding like a stuffed pig, been there-done that. I may still have it in my drawer somewhere.
Another items that comes to mind seeing that is those wax pencil things you used to stop the bleeding of your cut when you nicked yourself. I needed the jumbo pencil like the second graders used!!! ;D

Common misconception concerning DE Razors
1- The DE is Dangerous.
You are no more likely to cut yourself with a DE then any other razor.
Since the user controls the shaving angle with a DE razor proper technique is needed to get a good safe shave. Any razor can cut you and a DE doesn't suffer fools and sloppy shaving technique, but it has only 1 blade on your face and can cut you only once at a time. The 2 worse cut I've ever got were a thriple cut from a mach 3 when going around my ears and a nose over with the Headblade which carved a 3/8 diameter hunk of flesh out of the back of my head. This required a bandaid and I couldn't shave for a week.
2-Shaving with a DE is slow.
Once proper technique is mastered a person can shave their face just a quickly with a DE as any other razor.
Headshaving is a different matter and a DE will never be as fast as the Headblade. But there are other considerations besides speed, it is easier to control and shave across the grain and around scars and other difficult areas. I don't feel it take much longer to shave my face and head with a DE then it did before when I used the Headblade and a Mach and I'm convinced that the result are better.
