Anyhow, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the HeadBlade! I tried one for the first time about a month ago, and I'm totally sold, plus thay've got a really good have cream.

this is my 3rd post on this board, and in each one i have mentioned HeadBlade. I don't officially work there, but i have done lots of marketing and promo for them over the years. i am dedicated to their products, and i'm more than happy to answer any questions (or forward you to someone who can) you guys may have
Welcome Chuck!!
I'm curious, how often do you have to replace your blades when using the headblade? I've been thinking about trying it out.Anyhow, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the HeadBlade! I tried one for the first time about a month ago, and I'm totally sold, plus thay've got a really good have cream.

...any side to side movement can result into the blade giving you a pretty good cut....
I just try to concentrate in always traveling in a straight line no matter what angle I shaving.Â
I have to agree with you on the liquid bandage though. One of the greatest inventions of all time. Before I found that I used Super Glue though, works just the same.Any tips to repairing the back of the head? Every so often I get stubborn about switching to a new razor and nick myself. After reading these post, I was like 'hey that is a good idea, let's try that.'
Currently I use the Fusion but I am thinking aboutmaking the switch to the HB Primarily because the old lady is a razor thief and doesn't change the blades EVER!!!! I've experienced many a shorn skull at the expense of an over worked blade. Also for those who do exfoliate the dome I have found that St. Ives Apricot scrub is a very good and affordable exfoliant. Thanks also for the myspace add.
I use a 4/8 spike point straight razor myself. :)
Chad...from the looks of that healthy plate of yours, in addition to other postings, I'm leaning toward the Fusion.
Update: My wifey-poo is warming up to the idea nicely. We're still stickin' to our "deal" about me losing some weight first. But last night she mentioned that she saw Fusion stuff at a good price at Costco. She goes, "And there's one that you put a BATTERY in!"
Batteries are for remote controls or laser pointers to drive your dog(s) crazy.
By the way....here's a question for you veteran chromers:
Is how your face responds/reacts to regular shaving any indication as to how yer plate will react.
I've never really had any issues with my face (sensitivity, bumps, etc.). In fact I get away with using pretty cheap disposable double blade razors without shaving cream or even after shave. I just get out of the shower and grab a razor...used or not....splash a little water on my face and go at it.
Is that any indication of a complication free plate?
I use Headblade products. This is the best razor for me.Welcome to the group, KETAYA! We're looking forward to picking up some of your knowledge with the headblade line. Which do you use the classic or sport?

I've also noticed that my scalp is much different than my face when it comes to shaving. My face can withstand an older razor, my head can't.

They operate the flashlight so you can shave in the dark.
Yeah, that's what I'm wondering...if there's anything to it besides just being able to charge more for'em.Yeah do what they call micropulsing and this technology is suppose to give you a closer shave. I must admit, I feel it gives a better shave, but never underestimate the power of the placebo.
Welcome to the realm of the Sly, jseger-meister.
Thanks for sharing your experiences!
I learned to shave in the shower while I was in the military. I dont know how it would feel shaving the conventional way. I use any 3 blade razor while under the water, spray, from the shower keeps the blades clean and not clogged. The shower keeps any mess washed down the drain and a simple pass with the palm of my hand tells me everything I want to know as far as smoothness. Been doing this for years. No Razor babies to boot.
Is there anyone else that shaves this way. If so let me know. I mentioned it to a friend the other day and he looked at me like I was from up north or something. Please take no offence all you Snow going peeps.
Thanks for the welcome ar3.
Mach III, Gilette shaving gel and HeadSlick for me so far...
Great site guys!

Take that hair off ur dome Robmister. As Rob Schneider says "You can do it!!!!"

QUESTION: Can an electric actually match or exceed the closeness that a good razor shave offers?
QUESTION: Can an electric actually match or exceed the closeness that a good razor shave offers?
Let me put it this way. It may not be perfect, but it's like a 95 compared to a 99. And keep in mind, I am bald by choice who had thick hair, so my little stubble is more stubborn than most. I can get it pretty much smooth and when you factor in 5 hours that same stubble returns anyways then it doesn't matter anyways.
The only thing I dislike about it is the 8 hour charge time.

David - welcome .... and you got that right about the blades
Hello, David here; I use a Quattro in the shower right now. I also have a battery-powered Fusion but I almost need to get a freakin' loan for replacement blades.
Hey fellow Sly Bald Guys, whats up? I'v been shaveing my head now for almost ten years now, and I started off trying different razors, such as the Mach3 and Shick tripple blades. But by far the best thing I've ever used is the HeadBlade razor. They are truly the best products that I've used yet.
Welcome to the group, David!
The fusion rules y'all..... ;D
Haven't shaved any other bits, we don't need to go there Magmababe. ;D
ahem...sorry! :-[
Gotta look for deals on ebay. I just got 40 blades for 50 bucks. $1.25 per blade. Store cost is around 3 bucks per blade. Me and another guy usually buy 'em in bulk and split the cost.
welcome Medicineman. you have a bat in the cave. >:DThanks pburke for the welcome. Been a member here for awhile just never posted before. I don't quite get the "bat in the cave" comment though. No one ever accused me of being the sharpest tool in the shed, so I may be missing something.
I swear by the Fusion also. I own an S4 and will occasionally pull that out for something different. Shaved today with a DE, does well on the top and sides but is difficult to use on the back of the head.
Tom, Medic, funny seeing you guys here.
welcome man, I know you from beardcommunity.com. Sly guy(aka David). Thanks for the welcome David. I knew you posted here to, I have been lurking this forum for a while now.

WOW! Can't beat that with a stick, can ya?
BTW Medic, like the new pic

Don't worry, we don't always get what Paul is saying either.
I've seen you lurke around for a while. Thanks for posting up a few posts today!
By the way, what is a DE? It's the end of the day and I'm not thinking straight... :px :/O

DE is short for Double Edge razor. Old school razors like our dad's used to use. Not quite as dangerous as a straight razor but they do take some practice to use. Here is a pic http://www.classicshaving.com/catalog/item/522941/1888174.htm
AaaahhhhhH!! I know what you're talking about now.
Wazzup Medman. It's difficult working two boards, I try to post on both (when I have something to say). I've been thinking of giving the DE a try, just haven't worked up the nerve.Hey Medic! I know it is difficult to work two boards, that's probably why I have never posted here plus I post at beardcommunity.com so that's 3 to keep up with!
the bat comment was a joke about the angle of your picture. just didn't go over well. my apologies. i was trying to say you got a booger man. i won't try that one anymore. :-[ :-[OK. When you put it that way...
Funny thing is, when I first started shaving my face, it was using Dad's DE. Not sure I taught myself the "correct" way to do it, but I don't remember ever really cutting myself, none serious anyway. I suspect doing the head would be quite time consuming, unless one became serious & consistent about using the DE.Wazzup Medman. Give the DE a try, at least on the face. They give the closest shave ever after a little practice. Plus the blades are very cheap!
I am a rookie at this but I use the head blade with the triple blade. I had no nicks. I still find it tricky to get it as close as I want.
Thanks
This is my first time to post here, and I also use HeadBlade. When I first got it I used it with the headblade triple blade that came with it. After that I used the Atra Blades for a little while and didn't really care for them. I just used the Sensor blade for the first time and I loved it. The best shave that I've had yet by far (aside from the triple blade that came with the headblade)
I've since used my DE on my face a couple times. Got a really good shave with it today, seems very close. Patience and taking the extra time are the only drawbacks. I honestly can't tell that the Fusion gets any closer than what I got today but it is quicker and you can be more careless. It does take more time and patience to use a DE. Stick with it and the shaves you get will be better and better. What type of blade are you using? Some blades are sharper than others.
i got the HB Sport for christmas w/triples. don't like the triples. tried the off brand atra blades that i had on the HBclassic today and have found a winning combo. will try others later but for now i am sticking with the sport and atras.
I'm using the Gillette Fusion right now but it is very pricey. I'm not restocking once I'm out of refills this time. I've heard a lot of people mentioning the Mach 3 on the forum. Would I be going in a good direction with that razor? Please give me some feedback. Thanks.
Gadflys unite!
welcome socrates! the fusion has done me right so far..no complaints on it...i've used the headblade the last 2 days...while i havent nicked myself yet and gotten a just as close shave as my fusion/sensor...i havent gotten use to the handling of it...seems "gimmicky" and slower right now as compared to traditional razors...but we'll see the jury is still out on it for me.

Just keep at it Kajun, the HeadBlade takes some practice.

I just got my headblade sport today in the mail. And all i can say is SWEET... closest shave on the dome...Took about a pass or two to get used to. (after I remembered...LEAD with the blade... :/O
Now my head feels wonderful.
A little Headlube Matte that was in the box with the Headblade, and I'm set to rock.
Awesome product!
i say we nominate someone. i am not eligible. i nominate OCH.Gee thanks there Paul, I'm glad to see your looking out for my best interest! I think I will stick to Clear Head thanks.
I have to honestly admit that everyone's reviews on the HeadBlade made me give it one more shot. I went out about this past week and bought a HB Sport, some HeadSlick, and HeadLube. It took a few tries and it was a little awkward at first but I'm finally sold. HeadBlade is the best razor for my dome I have ever used. Even against the grain. I definitely love the HeadSlick and HeadLube. Thanks for the motivation guys. I've offically been converted. Hallelujah!!!!!!!
A-MEN!
By the way, I thought I'd try some generic Atra razors. I went to Albertson's and picked up their house brand, Atra Plus equivalents. Their house brand (at least for shaving products) is called "Equaline" and the razors are the "Pivot Twins with Lubricating Strip". I think I paid around $5 for 10 pack (threw away the receipt). Quality blade, and the lubrication on the strip didn't rub off as quickly as the green colored strips on the dual blades that came with my HeadBlade accessory kit. I know Walgreens sells an Atra equivalent (called Twin Plus ) under their house brand name that runs $5.49 for 15 blades (better deal). Might give those a whirl.
schro have you tried an old lawn mower blade? or do lawn mowers pollute cali. air too much? >:DNo, but that crap that spews from your mouth seems to find its way out to the left coast!! :*))
even though california is just new york with a better tan. .

I just ordered that the Silver Refill kit off of the HeadBlade Website. Pretty good, for $34... HeadSlick, HeadShed, HeadLube, and the Accessory Kit... But to tell you the truth, I am wondering if it is worth it. Four Razors, and the support stuff. I don't know, if the Razors last me the Month, I will be a Happy Camper, otherwise, I don't know. I will post up my review after i get my package.
I use this

Merkur Progress with custom knurled knob.
I bought the blades from the website. Yea, I was shaving the right way and actually watched that video. It just doesn't work for me.
I think I'm going to stick with the Mach 3 unless I can find a good electric shaver to get that close.
Blackhawk...welcome to the site bro
I have had trouble with the HeadBlade too, I have used it a couple of times and it just doesn't feel right. I like the Mach 3, it feels good and I can shave in under 10 minutes with it.
Welcome EricJ...
Yo, Ty: Great opportunity for a shoutout, you might want to see if you can't arrange a deal with HeadBlade, we give them testimonials, & they give us a plug for slybaldguys.
I mean, a good majority of us already use their products [some religiously]; what better people to ask for a testimonial than the SlyBaldGuys?
Well I shaved my head for the first time one week ago, and I used the razor I normally shave with (Fusion), it was a free sample I got in the mail. ;D It did the trick, then my wife was at CVS a couple of day later and found the head blade and some glossy head lube (in clearance for 75 cents), and bought it for me. I have used the HB 2 times so far and I really like it.
The first time I used it, I had a few nicks and some irritation (red spots), then I went to their web site and watched HeadBlade 101 and used their techniques and that made all the difference in the world! O0 No more nicks and less irritation! I do have a sensitive head ;), so I tried going with the grain first then went back over it again against the grain, that seemed to help for me.
I just ordered the new triple blades from them along with HeadSlick, HeadShed and HeadShade. Going HB all the way baby :*))
Okay, so I'm new on here and not yet SLY, but did buy a HB recently. I usually use a Quattro or Mach 3 on the face, but I have a coarse beard and am trying to decide what would be best for my dome.
hello froze, try a shaving bruche and soap its awesome, much better than all that other stuff

There are shaving soaps that are like shaving cream that you can use.
The blades flex laterally and I think that's the ticket for a slick smooth skinhead.

I think this is the key to getting the slickest dome. That's why the Sensor Excel and Atra blades work best for me on the HeadBlade. I haven't tried the Schick Extreme.
I've tried them all, headblade included. I always end up going back to the Schick Extreme3. I'll stick with Headlube, love that stuff, doesn't take much at all. A couple of weeks ago I picked up some Headlube Matte at Walgreens, that stuff rocks. Works like lotion but knocks down the shine for the times when you don't want it. Haven't tried the Headlube shine since I seem to have plenty of that naturally.

Yeah, the Schick is what I use now but I use the non-disposable one which is called Schick Sub Zero. But I have tried the disposables and they work just as well which is why I'm thinking of switching up to them because of a little money saving.
Mach 3 Power...but also really like my old-school double edge safety razor by Merkur. Blades are cheap and available anywhere. For lather: Edge gel if I'm in a hurry and mug-brush-soap routine if I have time to spare. Anyone else here use the double-edge razor?
I'd like to give the Headblade a test. Went to three stores (2 Longs, Walgreens) and they were sold out. SLY is really catching on. ^-^
taking me a while to get the courage up.
I shaved with a spankin new shick extreme 3 this morning after giving my head a couple of days off and it was a great shave...also used some Nivea products, a wash and the aftershave balm and would def give the 2 O0
I started out using the headblade, then about 6 months ago I ordered the headblade sport. Don't like it, was cutting my head it seemed everytime I used it. New blade and all. Then after reading some of the posts about using a electric I got a panasonic linear. works great, as close as a shave with my headblade, but no cuts. And I'm sure I'll save $$ in along run.
Oh yeah, by the way, been clipper cutting for the last few months. Just went back to the sly look!! Forgot how good it feels!! It ROCKS!!
Yes Lance I feel it gets as close as the headblade. When I first started a few rough spots on top, but once my skin got use to the eletric its great now. Takes less time to shave and as I said before in a long run less costly. The panasonic linear works great. I did alot of comparing and found this to be the best.
Thanks for the welcome.
Fusion rocks ... my razor of choice
I'm just wondering when headblade will dome out with an adapter fro Fusion cartridges. That would be a friggin awesome combo!
Fusion rocks ... my razor of choice
I broke out the old Fusion I had last night and I had one cartridge left. Man I have to agree with you that it does get a real smooth shave. I agree with most that the price is crazy but I guess you can pay for what you get? I think I'm going to have to deal with the price because the Fusion used with the Bald Guyz products rocks.
Yeah, that's right, I switched up my routine again and have found the perfect one for me. "just like a kid in a candy store." Ha!!! ;D ;D ;D

We must be twins because I picked up a Fusion today and used it and got the best results since I first started shaving my head about 3 wks ago. Used the BG moisturizing gel after shaving and got great results with that. Wasn't able to use their shaving gel because I couldn't find it - and believe me I searched all over Louisville (KY) for it!
Question for all of you long-time users, is there really a difference between the power blades and the regular.
I was down to my last blade, so I had to run out and pick some up today. I ran into a local Costco. They had a Fusion power Phantom with 4 blades and the battery for under $12 so I went ahead and got it. I had been thinking about trying it for awhile. Have heard nothing but good reports.
Question for all of you long-time users, is there really a difference between the power blades and the regular. They look identical except the power ones are quite a bit more. I'm set for awhile, but if I stay with the Fusion, I'm tempted to go with the cheaper blades when these run out.
I've read in some of the posts that a number of you get up to 2 weeks per blade. How normal is that? I have used Gillette Good News Plus for years, but I only get 2 good shaves (head and face) from one razor since going SLY. It really wears out the lubrication strip and the blades. If I go longer it nicks me.

I'm in the same boat as herronm; after 2 shaves, the lubrication strip is usually shot. A third try on the same blades = major problems with irritation!
hey guys im new to head shaving just did it last night actually...
started from 1 inch kept going down and down to 1/4 on an electric razer
question for tyler: how do you get your head like that with no hair showing? do you not use a guide and just use the razer by itself?
heres the look im going for what would be the best method to achieve this
http://www.buddytv.com/articles/inked/profile/matt-2.aspx
thanks guys! =D
hey guys thanks for all the info. I have decided im goin to get a headblade. I live in Canada and i dont think they sell it in any stores around here. So i guess i will have to buy it online. I was just wondering if i will have to keep buying replacement blades online or i think i read somewhere that i can use mach blades in the headblade.. is that correct?
Headblade Sport with the Gillette Sensor 3 all day for me. I have tried the Mach 3, Gillette Fusion, Headblade with the triple blades that came with it and electric and none of them compare to the sensor3. I can usually use this blade for at least a week and I always get a great close shave.
I heard Headblade was going to take control of the market of razors. You will only be able to purchase the Headblade.......What you think about that????
JDog it seems to be hit and miss with Walmart on the HeadBlade products. Walgreens definitely carrys items but traditionally just the Blade, Lube, Slick and Sunscreen. I find it at all Walgreens but just some Walmarts. Check of their website should provide a listing though
Hey Joe, you may want to try to Sensor Excel blades. They are trips and give me, at least, a real close shave, plus you can use them with the headblade adapter. I only need the sensor handle then for tough spots like around the ears. Two razors, but just one blade needed.
Joe, don't know whether the double Sensor's fit or not as I only use the trips. BTW, I get a long life out of the HB blades, too. And like you find that the later shaves are better than the first. Anyone else experience this?
I use Shick Extreme 3 disposable in the shower. Works great curves to the shape of your head
Welcome nilagorilla. Post an intro so we can get to know you
I am only on my third head shaving with the HeadBlade Sport (tripple) and I like it a lot. The only complaint I have about it is that it clogs up too easily. Has anyone else had that problem?

How often do you rinse out the blade Doug?
I rinse mine every pass or two, it'll help!!

Usually every pass. I'm wondering though.....so far I've done a every other day shave (longer hair clog it faster). I'll have to see if a daily routine would make a difference.
Fusion Power, perfect shave everytime.
I'm another vote for Fusion Power. I also got the Headblade when I decided to Sly my life, I wanted all the options to try out. The standard issue 2 blade doesn't come close to the Fusion Power for me. I'll look around for some 3 blades for the Headblade and try that too.
I use one of these.damn, that's cool!

Haven't seen ones like that in awhile. That's the kind my dad still uses. Never tried one myself. Are those classics???
i just bought a fusion cause the mach III was not getting my face close enough. since i spent the money on it, i figured i may as well try it on my head too. now it has been quite some time since my head got nicked. but the first time i try a critically acclaimed FUSION, i get a nick. did work a little better on the face. if i can get three or more shaves out of each replacement head then it will be equal in cost ($1 per shave ). but so far i have seen no clear cut advantage to fusion over machIII. i will let you guys know more in the next few days.

I pay between $.16 (Derby&Israeli) and $.25 (Feather) for DE blades and get 4 or more shaves for a cost of under $.07 per shave. :/O
Gillette created the cartridge razor to make $$Money not provide the shaving public with a superior product. :x!
Man I am very interested in this type of shaving! You shave your head with a DE razor? I just purchased a Merkur HD and a Pure Badger hair brush. I also ordered some Merkur blades, and some Proraso Shave cream. I am scared I am going to slice myself up with a DE though.

When i was looking into this kind of shaving i came across this user on youtube that shows you how to shave with this kind of razor, i haven't tried it out yet still waiting on my razor to get here.

Dang a Bic disposable has to really punish your head! Do your self a favor bro and get a top shelf razor. Your shaving experience will be much more enjoyable
I agree :XX I've used a bic back when I couldn't afford much else. My head was covered with little nicks. Had red blood dots all over.

Thanks, SlyBros! It's time to ditch the bic and make the switch!Sweet Okie! Hey are you in Branson, MO in your picture? It looks like the Titanic museum in Branson.
Nick - Yes, that pic was taken in Branson, MO. Have you been?
Have you been to the Titanic Museum? It's well worth the trip for the History buffs. O0 Although I wouldn't recommend it for children under 10.
Hey, new to the site and relatively new to shaving my head. I've tried the Extreme3 disposables (worked great) the Mach 3 (worked better), the HeadBlade (great feel, too many knicks), and the Fusion (close shave, but because the blade head is so big, it does not contour as good as the Mach 3). So as of now, I am sticking with the Mach 3, but headblade also just came out with a triple blade, so I am waiting for a pack of those to arrive. I am thinking with the ergonomical feel of the headblade, and the shave quality of three blades, I may have found a winner.
Saw the display twice, Tampa and the US opening in Memphis; very sobering but a great exibitHave you been to the Titanic Museum? It's well worth the trip for the History buffs. O0 Although I wouldn't recommend it for children under 10.
Sure I have been to the titanic museum. I think it is killer. I like how they give u the identity of a real person. Well worth the time.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but the last two times I shaved my head I had to switch from the head blade I just bought to the Power Fusion that I have been shaving my face with for a while now. It seems that when I take a stroke that almost no hair comes off with the head blade. Also I know I can't be the only one that has a lumpy head. It seems like no matter how many stroke I take the blade just wont get a smooth shave in some of the dips. Any Ideas?
RYEBREAD-Well I only used the triple blade that it came with and it was already loaded. I tried the multiple direction thing it just seems like the blade can't get into the dip. I mean i feel which way it's growing and shave the oppisite way using multiple strokes and it won't get it.
Did you recently change b;ade types/brands or the HB? I changed a while back to doubles and tore up my scalp... back to the triples and no problem. i also have a bit of a "wavy" bean and just slow down in those areas or shave in multiple directions.
And then there is the obvious and I hesitate to even mention it..... make sure whenyou loaded the blade you put it in facing the correct direction.... ::)
I talk to a lot of guys who shave their head. It seems that it's becoming a more popular thing to do now, or I'm just noticing it more. Anyways, I usually ask what razor they use to shave their head.
The number one answer I get is...you guessed it...the Mach 3.
Now, I don't use the Mach 3. In fact, I don't even use a straight razor. Instead, I use a Remington! That's right...I use an electric razor! It's the only way to go for me. I get just as smooth of a shave as using a Mach 3, but without the cuts and razor burn. Plus, the overall cost is much cheaper in the long run.

I now use the HeadBlade, but the electric was a good stepping stone for me when I decided to take it all the way down to the skin. I used the remington that I mentioned in that post and then that died on me so I moved to the Philips Cool Skin 7700. It worked better but neither gets as close as you using a blade.
Hi Tyler
Just curious as to your routine for head shaving with the electric razor. I managed to unearth a rather antiquated Remington electric razor and I am considering trying it instead of shaving my head with the Mach 3 razor.
Cheers

They are less likely to cut you than the Atra blades due to the way the cartridge is designed.

This morning I pulled out my old Sensor that i used before I got my Fusion. I had a new blade in the drawer so I loaded it and shaved my face with it this AM. Nice shave.... about as nice as the Fusion. I like the Fusion but the blade prices are ridiculous. I may go back to something more reasonably priced for the face.
The Gillette Fusion rocksI've started using the Gillette Fusion and I agree, it's an amazing razor. The Fusion shave cream is very good to.
with a bit of head lube
Well I just shaved my head for the first time today. I did a lot of research and decided to go with the HB Sport, it started out nice but then I got impatient and used the Mach3 to take care of business. I went against the grain so we'll see what the consequences are in a couple days...shifty84: welcome 2 the sly fraternity. so... how do U like your 1st day with a smoooooth noggin'? U look like a natural. post up in the INTRODUCTION section of the forum so that we can give ya a proper welcome. O0

The Mach 3 is a good one for me. It's cheaper than the Fusion and shaves almost as smoothly.
I've been shaving my head since about 1978. Back then, a Norelco would shave about as well as a blade. My hair texture has changed as natural male pattern baldness set in. Now, electric razors just don't seem to cut it- so to speak.
I use the Headblade. I have used conventional razors and even an electric (big mistake).
:@`
The Mach 3 is a good one for me. It's cheaper than the Fusion and shaves almost as smoothly.I get an excellent headshave with Mach3 blades. Given the rising cost of living, I see no reason to waste my money on a more expensive blade.

I just tried the sensor blades on my HB and I'm not happy I have scraped the hell out of my head. I'm gonna stay with my HB trips for mowing the bulk of it down and my fusion as a trimmer for the spots I can't get with the HB.

Many of you know that I have been a big fan of the fusion.
Recently, the CVS has Mach3 razors on sale. So I picked one up and I gotta tell you....works just as well for me. Think I'm gonna use that for a while.
Thanks Red, that's great. O0

I hate the wimpy feel of a disposable. When I'm shaving in the shower I like the heft of something substantial in my hand and I like my razor to have a bit of weight to it as well :*)) :*)) :*))

Those are NOT wimpy at all. It's NOT wise to make generalizations about shaving systems. I'd advise you NOT to call something wimpy if you haven't given it a try.

Rob, finally found myself a Schick Xtreme 3 (System) with replaceable blades. It was quite a task. Considering the product choice we ought to have here in the US the companies really dictate what we can actually buy. I'll report back next week after I've received the razor and used it. Replacement blades are readily available.

Just switched back to Headblade with Sensor Excel for Women.... 10 pack for $5 on the Walgreens clearance shelf.
The guy who checked me out was sly, too....
We're taking over.
Maybe they fear the girl cooties, which would obviously be on anything made for girls, too. :P If a lady's razor did the best job on my head I would use it. But then again I wouldn't go out of my way to find out if it was the best, unless I had some serious trouble shaving my dome.
I have one :)
Gillette Fusion Power........its smooth, gives a closer shave & fast !!! all it takes me is ~8 strokes (4 front & 4 back); 2 on the sides. Gillette Mach 3 turbo is not bad either. 8)

I have a new favorite razor.
I made a brass knob for my Merkur Progress and the added weight at the end of the handle made a great razor even better.

I have tried the Mach 3 (I like but too expensive), The Schick Quattro (Mach 3 is better though) and the Fusion (WAY TO EXPENSIVE) so I just use the Headblade. I wish the cartridges for the Mach 3 and Fusion were not so expensive though
I like the Shick Extreme. The blade can curve with the formation of my scalp...works good for me. I started with the Gilette Mach 3 though...about 10 years or so ago.
I'm using a replated Gillette NEW head on one of my custom handles, BBS.

I'm now using this one. Made in the days when Gillette Made REAL razors. So true, Bob. Just like everything else, they that don't make things the way they used to.
80 years old and will still be mowing down whiskers long after all the Fusions have been tossed in the trash bin.
I just started shaving my head recently (Love It). I've been using a Mach 3, which seems to do the trick without any problems, but what do I use after the aftershave as far as lotion? Any suggestions?

Saw this razor at my local WAL-Mart. Got it for about $6.00 and a pack of 4 blades for another $6.00. Man this razor is just like the Fusion but way less in price but not comfort and shave ability!!! It's the M5 Magnum from Personna!
Here is the link about the razor!

I have been testing it along with my Fusion and I have to say it gives the Fusion a run for its money!!!!!!!!!!
Give it a try, at this price why not!!!!

I think that i will keep my fusion power for "travel blade"
Good to hear, it's definitely the best tool for the job. Once you get the hang of it, it's quick and easy.
Have you tried different blade cartridges at all?

$10.99 for the headblade sport. After I left I realized that I should have looked to see if the headslick was on sale too. I was in a hurry though.
Hi Guys,
Haven't posted here in months, but the Rite-Aid chain is the only store I have found the HB Triple Blades at.
-Cap'n Noodles-
Although I'm a Fusion Dome, I see them at the Winn Dixie at Tchoupitoulas & Jefferson all the time. What I'm not finding anymore is Headslick. I bought the last bottle at Rite Aid about a week ago--I really don't like Rite Aid I still miss K&B. Pretty much everyone else has stopped carrying HB products Uptown.
I'm using the Fusion with a little hand soap with moisturizer in it. Does a fantastic job!!! Much better than the disposable I started with. That's what I started w/ until recently, then I added glycerin to Headslick, and the M5 razor, damn, nothing better, so smooth for so long, it's great.
I READ THAT HEADBLADE FITS ATRA'S BLADE, BUT I CAN'T FIND ONE IN MALAYSIA.hey k: 1st of all... please remove the CAPS on your posts. it's like shouting a message & it hurts one's eyes. if u r looking 4 some atra blades... check out www.greatrazors.com or check e-bay. hope this helps. O0
Tonight will be my 4th shave! The first three I used Fusion because it's what I had at home to shave my beard.. worked well. Tonight I will try my new Headblade... I'm a little frighten about it. It was so easy using a fresh Fusion everytime; I know I cannot do this for the rest of my life (maybe if I get a second job ;-) ) I just hope I will have the same result with the headblade.Good luck with the Blade, just remember to follow the instructions and take your time. I'm coming up on my 2 or 3-year HB anniversary (can't remember which) and my performance keeps getting better with time.
Hey guys new here. I've been shaving my head for about 7 years. It might sound wierd, but I use olive oil, shaving gel and a Fusion. I talk a hot shower and wash my nug really well. Then I put about a dime sized drop of EVO on my scalp. Then I lather up what ever shave gel I have(Edge, I think) I go over it once. Then if I have to go back over, I give it another shot of EVO(lube is the key and olive oil is cheaper than shaving oil). I'm not totally sold on the Fusion. I'm probably going back to a Mach 3, it seemed to give me a closer shave.
beat the big wigs of the razor industry. joy!

How often do you guys shave? I usually go 4 to 7 days between shaves.
My M5 Magnum Review[/size]
I bought the M5 Magnum on Sunday, and I have used it for several days now. It reminds me of a Gillette Fusion blade on the Mach 3 handle.
I think the Gillette Fusion is a better overall razor because of its larger handle, and the extra blade for trimming the edges of facial hair seems to be placed at a better angle. That said, the Fusion's benefits over the M5 are small. The M5 handle is smaller but works fine, and even though the Fusion's edging blade has a better angle, the M5 is still one of the few blades to have one.
The reason I will continue using the M5 is the price, because the difference is huge. A 4 blade pack of M5s cost $5.22 while a 4 pack of Fusion blades cost $13.98 and I don't remember if that was even the power blades. This cheap price was actually a determent to me because I assumed if it was that cheap it's got to be crap. I was wrong.
Fusion users should give the M5 a shot because the cost of the razor (with 2 blades) and a 4 pack of blades is less than the cost of 4-pack of Fusion blades. Even if you hate the M5 (you won't) you'll still come out ahead financially once you get through 4 blades.
I think the difference in price is to pay for the Fusion's advertising campaign!
Don't forget the one in the razor. So you actually get three cartridges and a handle for 7 bucks. I've been using one off and on for a couple of weeks. It's OK, but I find my self needing to do a lot more passes than with any of the Gillettes. Don't get me wrong, I think the same thing of the Fusion. So bang for the buck, I'm picking the M5. Seems like the more blades they add, the more passes I have to make. YMMV

WOW gilette better bank on the fusion proglide being the answer to the hydro because it is by far the best shave ive ever gotten... glad i decided to try it $6 bucks on sale at my local drugstore and it has 2 cartridgeshey b-mike: welcome 2 the sly fraternity. post up in the INTRODUCTION section of forum so that we can give ya a proper welcome. I just bought the new Fusion Pro Glide razor, and I am being completely honest when I say that it is the smoothest, closest shave I have ever experienced with the least amount of irritation. And this is coming from a guy who's used the Mach III, Fusion, Headblade, Rolling Razor, electric razors, etc. I think I finally found a winner! O0
Fusion here; mostly. I started with the Mach 3 and it was decent, but the Fusion is superior. Now if it could just keep a good edge a little longer... :x!
Anyone try the Schick hydro 5? There must have been a shipping mistake because when my new trumpet case came in, it was in the box with it.hey metch: here's my review of the schick hydro 5:
@ Tyler. Can you tell us what Remington you use? I have been trying to find a good electric to shave my head and haven't found anything that can match a blade. This is sad because I take blood thinners and a bad cut on the head from a razor can become a big deal for me.

By now you've probably heard of the Conair Cleanhead. It may not be as good as the Panasonic Linear (which I don't have so I don't know) but I'm happy with the Conair.
For $40 or less, it's hard to go wrong. Even if you need to shave twice a day instead of once a day (depending on how fast your hair grows or your tolerance for shadow), it's quick and super easy.
I find it gives a pretty decent shave.
@ Everyone:
But back to blades, all in all, from reading the many posts in this thread, it's obvious that no one razor is really "better" than another. It all seems to depend on the person; skin type, head shape, whatever. One man's golden choice is another's butcher knife!
The best thing to do is just try them all and see what works best for you. That'll take a while with all the choices out there, including 2,3 4,or 5 blades, but eventually, you'll find the right one for you.
I do okay with my CC for the back, and my HB for the top/sides, but I"m going to keep experimenting.
Here's a question: do you guys prefer disposable blades or regular? Does less or more weight help or hinder?
That's too bad saint, if you had stuck with it, you would probably be a pro by now ;)
Tossed the HB sport in the garbage. most overrated razor ever imo
Originally the extreme 3 gave me a bad shave, but when my scalp toughened up a bit and I started using it in the shower, nothing can compete. I feel like the headblade is just overrated trash, but to each his own i supposeQuoteTossed the HB sport in the garbage. most overrated razor ever imo
We all have opinions. The Extreme 3 gave me the worst case of razor burn in my life.
When it comes to the Headblade, I'm afraid you're a Redskins' fan in Dallas. Although I did feel the same way about the Original model.
Morthern,I got the HB sport, with the triples it didn't shave well enough, with the doubles it just irritated the hell out of my scalp, Not to mention the design is supposed to make shaving easier, but it only does that for the top and back of the head. on the sides its awkward as hell (i shave all ATG) Just not the right tool for me y'know. Sorry if it seems like I was attacking anyone, not my intention
I was skeptical of the Head Blade at first, but now that I've used the Sport a few times, I like it.
Usually the cheapest razors I can find, I figure you can get ten or so cheap razors for the price of one or two of the better razors. Replacement blades cost to much...
I have an electric razor that I use for my face, I've thought about using it on my face but I don't know if it would turn out good.
I was getting nervous about my M5 when Wal-Mart stopped carrying them and their blades. But, I found a supply of them in upstate NY this past week at a CVS so I'm good for several more months. What I can't figure is why our CVS's in NO don't and never did stock them :/O. I was looking to bite the financial bullet and go back to Fusion.I am assuming that Schick bought Personna out. I noticed that all the Personna stuff has been replaced by Wilkinson Sword.
I am assuming that Schick bought Personna out.Damn, that pisses me off. Product for product, price for price, IMO the M5 defined stick shaving and worked so well peeling the peach to a long lasting smooth finish. We'll see the stuff again at a super high price--b_stards :Xo! :Xo! :Xo!.
Apparently Schick did buy out Personna's parent company:

I thought of filling my sink a little, then enter the blade and shake it well, maybe that would clean them better.Yep, that's how I'm doing it.
At the moment, I've put the HB sport aside and am using the Schick Hydro 5 with the Hydro SS gel. They work really well and I'm not cutting myself. I also think I might be allergic to HeadSlick. My skin started clearing up after I stopped using it. I really like the HB stuff in theory but it doesn't seem to agree with me. Oh well, we all react differently I guess.
I've been using Mach 3 razors since the day I started shaving my head. I usually go for a 14 pack of disposables @ Costco. I've only nicked myself a few times in 3 years (usually due to my own carelessness), and never have any irritation.
I've never tried the Headblade. It just looks so gimmicky and I've heard plenty of horror stories, although I'm sure most of which are due to using it incorrectly... Maybe one day I'll try it out when I'm feeling lucky.
I liked the Personna Magnum (I believe that's what they were called) 5 blade. They were the cheapest I could find at Walmart. However, I can't find them there any more. So I get the CVS brand of the same thing. The 5 blade comes in a 4 pack for about $8 which is less than all the Mach III and Fusion blades. Works well and I get about 5 shaves a week out of one blade.
I pretty much gave up on my headblade (both regular and sport), but not because they're not good, it's just that my particular noggin has too many bumps, ridges, and worst of all- transplant scars, which create a very uneven, irregular surface that the headblade just isn't suited for.
For the average joe, I'm sure a headblade rocks.
For now, I'm using a Hydro3 w/ Headslick and I'm happy with it. Close shave, no nicks. And with my skull, that's saying something.
I'm pretty distraught about the discontinuation of Personna's M5 blade.
New to the site thinking about switching from a clipper to a razor shave:)
For you M5 lovers..... CVS stores sell a 5 blade cartridge that looks very similar to the M5 cartridge and I have been told that it works on the M5.Dollar General has a DG brand cartridge that looks like the M5 too. I checked and it's made in Tennessee. So you know it's not that cheap Korean made stuff they usually pedal.
I did use Fusion but the price was stupid high. I found Magnum 5 (M5) a five blade that's as good as Fusion at a fraction of the cost. My grocery store carries it at a great price but if you can get it at BJ's or Costco it's even better.

They're not making those anymore, so if stores in your area still have them, stock up while you can.
Gillete ProGlide Powered, it literally GLIDES
That is what I use. Change cartridge once a week - Sunday morning. Get these at Costco.
I'm a headblade sport guy. It took me forever to get used to it after almost 14 years of using a stick razor, but now that I'm comfortable with it, there's no turning back. I actually tried two separate shaves using a Schick Hydro 5 and Gillette Fusion Power and it was nowhere near as comfortable or easy as the headblade. Plus, the shave is much closer and long lasting for me as well.to each his own, I think the headblade is the worst razor i've ever used, gimmicky and unnecessary imo
You definitely have to find a blade you're comfortable using with the sport. For me, that's either a Sensor Excel or Sensor 3 both by Gillette. Also, like has been previously stated, apply no pressure toward the front, only toward the back. Long, even strokes and you're good to go. I was never able to shave everyday prior to using the headblade, but now I'm able to. I can't recommend it enough.
Whatever you use, it's the end result that matters. Happy shaving.
HeadBlade Sport for me. This razor is NOT a gimmick............ it's just not for the uncoordinated! ;D ;)
After reading a number of posts here I ordered the Magnum M5 razor. Used it this morning - I do like it likely more than the Gillette Proglide Power that I have been using. Will stick with the new one now.
The Proglide got me. It got me good. There was just too many of them staring me in the face, plus this huge lit up display thing on the end cap of the shaving section at Walmart. I figured I can try Power blade heads if I am so inclined.I had the regular then switched to the power. It was night and day. Its like a massage on your skin. It eats batteries, but so does my nose trimmer, so I keep a set handy.
ummmmmmmmm, WOW! first shave this morning, my best in some time. it just glides so easily with zero irritation going on. so.friggin.smooth. big improvement on my sides and in the back. I was using headblade w/sensor trips prior to this.
Not sure how much these heads differ from the POWER ones but I kinda feel like I've been missing out. We'll see how long the smoothness lasts, how long it holds up of course. Just wish I could afford the refills:/ gonna try the keeping the blades dry/jean technique for sure.
Does anyone know if dousing the blades in mineral oil truly helps on prolonging blade life?
Tell us, what do you use?
Good report on all the razors and other products, though only one mans opinion...I couldn't agree more. I kept going back to the Fusion because so many guys speak highly of it. Two bald-by-choice coworkers with perfect domes even swear by it. I even ordered a case of cartridges for it.
After over 3 weeks of shaving my head and trying the following, I feel I can be more objective than I was when I first responded to this thread:
- Double Edge
- Gillette Fusion
- Schick Hydro 5
- HeadBlade Sport w/ HB triple cartridge
Double Edge: takes too long, but results in close shave. Mild irritation.
Gillette Fusion goes a little faster. Not as close as using the double edge and it feels like it pulls even with one 1 day of stubble. A surprisingly uncomfortable shave given what I expected from the reviews on this site.
Schick Hydro 5. Hate it. Comfortable shave, but inconsistent. There's no tactile feedback, I suppose due to the large head on the razor. I had patches of stubble when I was done. In all fairness, I gave this razor only two tries, but it was due to my disappointment.
HeadBlade Sport: I guess I drank the Kool Aid. I was prepared to dislike this "gimmick", but this is the most awesome shave ever. Every time. Comfortable. Fast. Close. Least amount of irritation. It did not entail the "learning curve" I was prepared for. It worked great the first try with no nicks. There have been all these warnings about keeping the pressure off the blade, etc. It just felt natural cupped in my hand, that the pressure is naturally distributed correctly.
And since the razor is only as good as the prepared surface over which it is used, I'll comment on the products I used: I've been using St. Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub exfoliant about 3 times per week. Over the three weeks I've tried various combinations of King of Shaves Shave Oil & Alphagel, Billy Jealousy's Hydroplane, and HeadBlade HeadSlick. All of these products provided the same results with each razor tried, although I had to use larger amounts of Alphagel vs. the Billy Jealousy's and the HeadSlick. Thus, as far as bang for the buck, HeadSlick is winning so far. The only time I used William's soap in a mug applied with brush was the first shave using the double edge.
I shave in the shower with hot water. Due to advice on this site, I let the product sit on my scalp for at least 2 minutes. For the past 5 days, I've quit doing this. I simply shower, shave my face as usual, then apply HeadSlick and immediately shave with the the HB. I noticed no difference in allowing the product to soak on my head, and I have thick coarse hair with no natural thinning. I'm not disputing the need for this practice for some, as it makes sense, but for me it made no difference.
Bottom line, the HeadBlade Sport blew the other razors out of the water. I've been using it daily for the past 5 days now with excellent results.
As far as my face, I'll never use anything other than my Double Edge. I've grown too accustomed to my face, hair pattern and the nature of the double edge such that I can shave my face very quickly with few passes and get a very close shave.
Being a true SBG member, I have a drawer/box full of razor handles and blades to experiment with on my face! :*)) :*)) :*))Or "NOT" and then the blades really last if you're only cleaning up the dome. Also, if you want to add another razor to the collection, keep an eye out for a sale on the Schick Hydro 5--I never thought I'd give up my M5, but it's backup now. I rank Fusion just below the M5, and the M5 below the Hydro 5. The HB is in the drawer, in the archive & history section of my sly life, now in year 5!
Also, if you want to add another razor to the collection, keep an eye out for a sale on the Schick Hydro 5

hi there, hey gucci: welcome 2 the sly fraternity. post up in the introduction section of the forum so that we can give ya a proper welcome. as far as quality razors 4 head shaving.... i would suggest the fusion manual or schick hydro 5. these 2 razors R probably the most "forgiving" when head shaving in my opinion.
newbie on this site but been shaving for the last 4-5 years...Im reading all the posts but cant find the best solution as we are all different i guess.
But is anyone can tell me what razor is best for a black guy? i know we should def not going against the grain but how many blades get the closer shave? 2, 3 or 5?
any other tip welcome

Panasonic electric for me.
First time was with a fusion, at the sink, after a traditional prep with one of a drawer full of shaving soaps and creams. Think I used prorasa pre-post and then prorasa soap with a badger silver tip brush. Worked great.
Today I shaved in the shower, used an older Fusion (first time was the newer proglide). Didn't bother with the brush, as the hot shower and steam takes care of the prep, just used a bunch of Edge gel. Got the best shave so far, really BBS, as they say (at least they do at Badger & Blade, do we say that here?).
Guys do you think the power bit on the fusion works in helping shaving im not convincedno... imho... when a razor vibrates it does not stay on the shaved area 100% of the time. thus...the manual wins all the time 4 me.

Just bought myself a Mekur hd 34c. Not arrived yet but looking forward to using it. Never had a decent razor before. Will post my reviews on it after a weeks use.
Yes mate it will be my first, ive heard they take some getting used to but hopefully ill be ok! Will take it nice and easy at the start. I was watching videos on youtube and made me want one even more :)Yeah it seems the way to go, just so sick of the price of razors here in oz :(
I just started using the HeadBlade and it's fantastic! Very nice razor for headshaving, it's comfortable to hold, shaves well and it's easy to use. It definitely takes less time to shave now.
Thanks for sharing your photos Mahaw, awesome looking head. Im getting more curious about DE razors, maybe I should try it some time.
After my recent review of my DE razor, it is with regret that I have gone back to the Gillette sensor 3 disposables! Two things really, the first is that I found the DE just a tad aggressive for me in the end, giving me little nicks, and slight burn. The second was time, you have to be so slow and perfect technique in order to pull off a good shave and for me it just took to long. I am going to keep on to it though! Maybe use it at weekends when I have more time on my hands.
Hey,
New to the site and new to shaving my dome, just did it on 5/15 after being that male pattern thing for 20 years. Currently using a Gillette Plus doing good with it for head and face. Gonna try the Rolling Razor... for 10 bucks to my door I'll give it a shot and let you know how I make out, Anyone else used this before I'll take all the advice I can get. Thanks :)

YMMV as may your head.
Thanks for the input, I've been checking out both the Rolling Razor (which I ordered for $10) and the HB. I'm trying to avoid the 2 razor system 1 for head and 1 for face so I went with the RR because I can use it on both. If I don't like it I will try the HB because the bottom line is we all want a close and easy shave. 8)
Here is my current favorite DE razors. From left to right is the Weber DLC with Bulldog Handle, Edwin Jagger DE89L, and the FaTip Piccolo. So, which of those 3 is your favorite?

Thanks for sharing the pics Mark, nice! What blade is that your using for the head blade Mark ? In the short time I have owned mine I am in about $40.00 on blades and have not found one that gives me a good shave or wont slip (jumps) or wont cut me up.I need something that will give me that perfectly smooth shave on the dome like my Shick Quattro does.I am getting tired of wasting my cash on all these blades that are just stacking up in the cabinet.Thank You.

Might it not be time to drop this discussion?
I know this is heresy, but... it's only hair, and razor technology has moved into fantasy-land.
Can you remove the hair with whatever you have to hand OK? Me, yes, and it's an ancient (sixty year past blade).
Does your razor do OK? By "OK," I mean, "Are you willing to flaunt the results in public?" If you are... then your razor is good enough.
Come on, guys--it's just shaving; it's not saving the world. Or (frankly) yourself.
Let's move on to "important" matters. Flossing, maybe.
Lynchy there are a lot of good priced SR out there if you look on the SRP and B&B classifieds you can come across so good deals on ebay as well but be very careful there. I have really taken to old school shaving and if you have any questions about going to a SR just ask I can try to help out. I am still learning my self but have done a lot of home work at the start. there is some really good info on youtube as well.

gilette sensor. oldskool baby. well, ok, maybe not straightedge oldskool, but I've grown accustomed to it over the last fifteen years. Started using my dad's as a kid and just did the wrap around when I decided to shave the nugget too. I imagine you guys probably have some better razors workin' for ya. Just a creature of habit I guess.

Hello,
I use mach 3 now but I wonder what is the real life of one blade as every cartridge I use only last a week or so. I use it every other day. Can you guys give me some tips on how to maintain my blade so that it will last a bit longer?
Thanks in advance.
I use a mach 3 and honestly, just good old plain hot water. Very very rarely do i ever have a problem with razor burn
thinking of buying headblade atx with the 6 bladesYes it is, I'm a big fan of Headblade.
good choice?
Recently, I gave the Headblade ATX a 2 week trial run. First time using any Headblade razor. I like how it looks, and the fluid motion of shaving with it, but it doesn't seem to shave close at all. I have to go over random spots several times to achieve smoothness. Now, this could be because I wasn't holding it correctly, or maybe the Headblade brand 4 blade cartridge doesn't provide that close of a shave... Or a bit of both. The Headblade just couldn't catch on with me... Oh well. 'Least I can say I tried it.
I use an edwin jagger de 89 for my face daily, and head at weekends. ..and a fusion pro glide on the noggin during the week if im in a rushIs shaving with your Edwin J. that much slower compared to the fusion?
Still feeling experimental after my Headblade trial, I tried a Sensor 3 disposable I had in the back of our bathroom closet. Never used that razor before, either.
Holy crap, what a close shave! No nicks! I loved it! My new favorite razor. IMO, beats out the Mach 3 and Hydro 3, in terms of a close/comfortable trade-off. Can't believe it's been around for so long and I've never tried it in my 6 years of taking a razor to the dome...
Now, I know you can use Sensor cartridges on Headblade razors, but I have yet to try it out. Perhaps I will in the near future.
Picked up a hydro yesterday and used it this morning. I like it better than the fusion I have been using. Smooth shave and no irratation. It's also cheaper for replacement blades which when you shave daily is a big plus. The size of the cartridge made it harder to shave behind the ears but ill probably just try the edger part next time and see how that goes in that area.
I usd schick hydro five and tried the fusion disposables when I was out of blades the pack I got came with a free shave gel (who could pass that up when your out of blades and shave lubricant) both cut good nice close shave the fusion blades are sharp so carefull also the lubricating strip runs quickly not the hydro will alternate. Got a free hydro when I brought a can of edge (who could pass up a free blade when in need of one) but IS have a hydro fan.
The lubrication strip runs quickly on the fusion but the blades are sharp and cut pretty good
I just did the closest shave I ever had. I used the Shave Secret, shaving gel, and a Mach 3 in the shower. Absolutely baby butt smooth , can't feel any hint of stubble at all!
ive been using shave secret underneathe my headslick, i agree its been one of the smoothest shaves ever! ive since made it a staple of my shaving routine.
Hey guys...New member here..I've been shaving my head for about a year now with the Schick Quattro, and it's been doing alright for me, it just seems like I'm not getting as close as a shave as I should be getting...I shave with and against the grain, and I still have a shadow and always have to go back and re touch...I also hate that the hairs get stuck and the little wires..I use the hydro 5 and love it, I used the Mach 3 for a long time and then switched to the 5 the blades are a little cheaper and last longer, correct me if I'm wrong but the shadow UR talking about is the hair follicles in your scalp, you can't get rid of that unless you go laser, I think the Hydro does a good job, a lot of guys here use the head blade and they love it, welcome to SBG, have you posted in the new member thread yet, you should if you haven't so we can welcome you properly, this is a great site for exactly the types of questions you are asking, everyone here is polite and friendly, there's really no perfect way to shave, everyone finds there perfect way and that's great, always always always don't be afraid to try something new because you might just like it, I've changed my shaving routine multiple times because of the advice I've gotten from fellow sly guys here, welcome to the Brotherhood!
I was thinking of trying the Hydro 5 as I've been hearing good things about it and since I'm on a budget...So what would you guys suggest I go with that would be better than my Quattro?
Thanks in advance and happy to be a member here :)

Read up on it before you do it for sure. I ended up getting an old Gillette at the antique shop. Love using the brush and mug most of all.
Goatee... yeah... I use DE sometimes for my face, but even then not all th time because I tend to find myself sometimes wanting/needing to shave quickly... I never perfected technique in DE shaving to the point of no nicks or razor burn, so rushing it is no way to go either. As for the head....since I'm still somewhat 'clumsy' with the DE face shaving, nothing scares me more than the idea of putting that thing in areas around the head that are hard to reach and can't easily see in the mirror... :)
DC................What DE have you got?
So far I've only used a few disposables, and oddly got the best shave out of a Bic...
Tonight I massively upgrade, and try out my brand new Headblade ATX. I'll be sure to let you guys know how I like it. I went over my head a few times with the safety plastic still on the blades, just to get the hang of the motions. Seems very fluid, and I enjoy it.
Edit: Very good shave! I have trouble with the contours on the back of my neck though, to shave my neck. My head is perfectly smooth! Unfortunately, I nicked myself going over a bug bite.
Hi everyone! I am a bit hesitant to use a blade on my head for the first time, so I want to go for something that is a bit more forgiving than let's say the double edge razor that I regularly use on my face. I am currently on the fence between the headblade and an electric razor. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!I don't use it anymore, but the HeadBlade is an excellent way to get your scalp used to being shaved. Once you've "toughened" it up, you'll probably want to use your DE. I get superior shaves with my DE.
I've been using Dorco 4 blade razors, and Cremo Cream for some time now. Excellent shave with no nicks every single time.

Nate! Where you been, son? Glad you popped in!
I use whatever double edge or single edge safety razor I am using on my face. I have over 30 razors and use the same razor until I need to change the blade. Then I go to the next razor.
My Question is - how many uses do you typically get from your razor...? After a week of shaving everyday - mine still seems pretty good...

I am going back to DE shaving the dome. Been using the DE on the face and its awesome. Only with the grain though. Will try that approach on my head.
I use a 1918 with the st-301 blades. Works well for me. I prefer this type of razor because it's a three piece design. I've always had a hard time with the kind when you twist the bottom and the barn-doors open up. I somehow manage to break em :/OFor my face I use a1954 Gillette Super Speed , it was my farthers . It’s a TTO , never had a problem with the doors. Quality is the reason.
Is it ok to use ordinary moisturiser on the dome after shaving? I splash on some combined with tea tree first.I used ordinary moisturizer when I first started shaving and never had a problem so I guess it's alright but there are lots of moisturizers out there that contain all the good ingredients as well. As far as razors go, it doesn't have to be expensive to be good. I've tried all kinds of razors but the expensive ones don't necessarly do a good job. It's all in what works for you.
Then, i have been using moisturiser
Using a cheap Wilkinson DE as its mild with same brand blades.
