This is the most facial hair I can grow out, but I'll take it.

Bald Stories / Re: Before and After

When I started shaving about three years, I didn't have noticeable hair loss.

It was only when I took a photo of the top of my head when I noticed that it was thinner than I thought that I decided to buzz and eventually shave off last month. I plan to let it grow out again when it gets cold and shave it off for most of the year. I plan to keep it going until I have noticeable hair loss.

It looks nice! I went the other way and I like it, especially after I give it a good trim.

Reactions to being Bald / Re: What was YOUR reaction?
« Last post by jason_greets on July 20, 2026, 10:45:32 AM »
I started doing that about three years ago. It was a hot and boring summer day here in Texas. At that time I had a short buzz haircut and I had been thinking of trying out something new. I really wanted to drastically change my look for the first time in most of my life. So, one Saturday afternoon, I grabbed an electric hair clipper without a guard and cut it short enough for me to shave it off.

At the end and after cleaning and drying out my dome, I looked in the mirror and touched it. I began to like it almost immediately. The following morning, I took many selfies with different looks and poses including with dark sunglasses.

I was going to only try out for a week, but after that time went by I decided it to keep it after all and let my facial hair grow out more.

I still like it much better than my actual hair. The only haircut that I really liked was the flattop.

Reactions to being Bald / Re: Mothers
« Last post by jason_greets on July 20, 2026, 10:38:31 AM »
Moms typically do not like their son's with a shaved head.  Or a beard.  I am of the opinion that toa mom a shaved head, or a beard, is more evidence that their little boy has grown up.  They go as far as to like the look of a shaved head or beard on other men, but not their own son.  Over time, my mom accepted that I was going to continue shaving my head and growing my beard (3 years or so).  The negative comments eventually stopped, but I don't think she ever like either.

I think that's a great observation that I didn't think of. My mother had been cutting my hair since I was very young and would often cut mine whenever I visited her. I still let her cut or trim it when I let it grow out a bit. She was the first to tell me that the hair on the top of my head looked like it was thinning.

How did everyone's mother react to their clean-shaven head? My mom was a professional and very talented with both men's and women's cuts, so she had cut my hair all my life. The bald head definitely wasn't her fave at first, but she got over it and thought I looked just fine. She'd even ask me if I was shaving it with a regular razor and shaving cream or an electric razor, if I was moisturizing it and remembering sunscreen, etc.

My mother has been a hair stylist since the 80s.  She would often cut my hair since I was a child. When she saw it for the first time a few years back, she didn't say anything. Deep inside I know she didn't like it. Part of the reason she didn't say anything was because my siblings and I have been more assertive with her criticism lately.

She often tells me or implies that I would look best with at least some hair, but her ideal look for me would be with plenty of slicked-back hair and with a clean-shaven baby face. I do NOT care for that look. I'm not trying to be a model or a pretty boy. I just want to look more mature, but in decent shape.

Welcome!

My story is very similar to yours. I will alternate between letting my hair grow out for part of the year, but mostly bald as long as I can. I love the look and feel of a bald head on me. I just noticed that my hair on top is starting to thin out and once it's very noticeable, I will just shave the rest off. Balding just look desperate and unkempt.

Welcome! I think it looks good on you. Personally, I think bald looks better than balding, but it should ultimately depend on what YOU like.

That's how I also feel after a clean shower and a bald head, clean and strong.

To be or not be...Bald / Re: Did not shave my head this year

I went through a phase like that last year and it lasted about six months. I do not regret it. I just wanted to try a different look while I still can pull it off.

No, but I wish I had started then.
