I agree Andrew, Pacific shaving oil is great and a little goes a long way.

Already had a new can of Edge Cream - the blue stuff that turns into cream.  Works fine for me.  My kids get a kick outa my noggin and beard all WHITE before I shave.

I did check to make sure there was no menthol.   Menthol will close yer pores prematurely.

I was unaware about the menthol closing pores deal. I enjoy the menthol in the HeadSlick, leaves the noggin feeling refreshed.

I with PigPen on the HeadSlick....the menthol feeling is sweet.

Hey Dr. Robmeister, you sure about that methol/pore thing?

I've heard this before.  Personally, I'll stick with the menthol regardless.  It feels too good!!! :D

Don't get me wrong....I enjoy the menthol cool thang on the noggin as well.

In one particular article I read that the menthol should be saved for _LAST_ as you want the pores to remain open during the shaving.

A menthol shaving cream/gel with it's cooling effect will close the pores before you shave.

Here's a snippet

-------------------------------

STEP TWO: PREP

Always shave your head after or at the end of a shower, to soften the hair, open the pores, and cleanse the skin. Your shower should last at least 10 minutes. During the shower, lightly soap a washcloth and with a slight pressure glide the cloth all over your head against the grain. This will lift the hair for easier shaving. Rinse your head and the washcloth remain in the shower for few additional minutes. Next, apply a good shave cream and let it stand for a few minutes to soften the hair even more. I swear b Truefitt and Hill's Shave Cream. Stay away from gels or products which contain menthol, which will close your pores and stiffen the hair. Shaving cream is ideally applied with a brush to soften and lift the hair. Never skimp on the preparation. This is vital to a good head shave!

hmmm, interesting article. Still, I love the feeling of the menthol too much to give it up. A glutton for punishment I guess.

Once again, I've gone with the headblade products and use headslick.  I'll admit that at first I didn't like headslick too much but then I found out I just wasn't using quite enough.  If you are pretty liberal with headslick then it gives a great shave.

I prefer to use shave soap.  I am currently using Burt's Bees Bay Rum soap and make the lather with a natural bristle shave brush.  I got this kit for xmas and like all the products in it. http://betterherbs.serrahost.com/Detail.bok?no=1689 I find the soap helps soften the hairs for shaving and the brush helps stand the hairs up making them easier to shave.  Also feels good applying the lather with a brush.

Just tried Hydroplane by Billy Jealousy.  I was getting a lot of irritation with headslick and I have none from hydroplane.
