I'm 17 years old and a junior in high school. I've been experimenting with hairstyles ever since 8th grade when I had a mop on my head. The trend in my hairstyles has been progressively shorter and shorter -- and I like it!. When I first decided to cut my hair years ago, I thought that going to a #8 clipper was tremendously short. But short hair has grown on me (excuse the pun) and now I like to keep my hair somewhere in the #2 range. I think I would enjoy having a shaved head but I also think it might be a bit weird at my age level. I've never seen a single person at my school (with the exception of some teachers) with a shaved head. Is it odd for a teenager to shave his head? Should I wait a few years until I'm a bit older? Thanks!

Mosin, welcome to Sly Bald Guys! I'd say try it once to see how you like it. There were several guys, mostly athletes, that shaved their head when I was high school, and that was in the mid '90s.

Welcome to aboard Mosin. As a high school teacher I know we have several guys who have shaved heads in school. It might depend on how large a school you attend. With 2300 students are odds of some guys being shaved might be a little higher Parental input might be important for you as well. If they don't care and you like to stand out above the crowd, go for it.

It just depends on the person. Like Paul said, if your parents are cool with it too, sure go ahead. I just hate it when people associate bald heads with being old. You could be the start of a new movement in your school. I am sure you arent the only student at school who has thought about it. I am sure at this time you are on break from school, so why not give it a try now? This would give you about a week to grow most of it back before you returned to school IF you didnt like it...but given the odds......you will keep it smooth. Just read up on all the tips and pointers taht are offered in here and have fun. Just savor that moment of when the blade first touches your noggin...cause it is a feeling you will want to remember for the rest of your life...Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide to do ok....see ya.

Before you do it, make sure that your school doesn't have a rule against it. If they don't and your parents don't mind, go for it. It grows back quickly if you don't like it.

Thanks for the input gents. My parents were fine with it and the school doesn't seem to have any ruels against it, so I went ahead and did it. First I used some clippers to cut my hair as short as the clippers could go, then I hopped in the shower and got to work with my razor. I nicked myself 3 or 4 times but I'm satisfied with the results.

Looks good bro...very CLEAN!
Nice that you were able to just shave it all off...you wouldn't have been satisfied till you did the deed!
Keep it smooth and SLY my newly balded brutha! O0
-
good for you. is that an m-1 garand you are holding.?
-
Way cool brother. You took the proverbial 'bull by the horns' and did it. Let us know how everyone reacts.
-
awesome! I bet you are asking yourself why you have waited so long ehhhh...LOL...its cool looks good. Now you have to do the 30 day trial period before you can officially say you do or you dont like it. Thumbs Up!

Looks good and sly, mosin1891
-
Good job! I hope the other fence-sitters are taking note.
-
Way to go Mosin. It looks great !!!
-
Congrats on your slyness. How does the smoothness feel? I bet you can't keep your hands off of it. O0
-
Thanks everyone. I'm already in love with it. StogieStang, you're right -- I just can't stop! Running your hand over your bare scalp is a really cool feeling.
Tom_G, yes it is a Garand. And I took that picture at school! I'm in NJROTC and we use Garands as our drill rifles. They're permanently altered to be unfirable. It's kinda depressing. The barrels are plugged with cement and the trigger groups are all welded in place. It's sad :(
I love my new hairstyle. My only complaint is that when I go outside, my head gets C-O-L-D!!! Might be time for me to finally accept hats as more than just a fashion item. :)

Congrats bro! Enjoy the new look!
-
Mosin, welcome bro! Looks good and congrats on becoming SLY!
-
Congrats and keep it shaved, bro!
-
Mosin: you look great and like a real military man!
-
Congrats bro' it looks good on you.
As fars as it being cold just grab a good beanie and you'll be fine.
-
Looks great, you've got a good head shape for it too. Welcome aboard.
Newly sly here too and still loving it.

It's good that your parents are cool with it. It makes it so much easier when it isn't treated as an act of rebellion.
I have found that if you follow the clippers with a good buzz with a Norelco shaver before you hit the shower, it makes it much easier to shave with the blade, and less likely to nick the skin. But, go lightly with the electric shaver until your skin toughens up, or you will get razor burn from the electric.
As for cold weather... one word... HOODS... I find a hooded sweatshirt more convenient than a hat. Just flip it up when you get cold and flip it down when you get warm. With a hat, you are more likely to leave it laying somewhere. In really cold weather, a hooded parka is a must.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm liking it more and more as time goes on. Today I was watching a DVD with the girlfriend and at one point she just started rubbing my head for no good reason. O0

Yeah, my parents don't mind at all. In fact my mom insists that the real reason I did it was to impress the girls. :)
Incidentally I have an old Philips electric shaver from when I was 14 and too scared to use a real razor. :-[ I'll give it a try the next time an opportunity presents itself.
Hoodies aren't really my thing. I got a beanie from the 99-cent store though. I love my beanie already! :@`

The only problem I have Mosin is with the beanies...I cant keep them on my head. They want to slide around and stuff. I am working on a solution though....running into a few snags with it though....
-
mosin.....welcome 2 the club. u look like a natural. and welcome 2 the sly fraternity. as timmj mentioned....u must wear it for the 30 day trial. that is the unwritten rule in the sly forum....after 30 days u will decide 2 grow it back or keep it smooooth. O0 O:O
WARHAWK O0

Hey, thanks for the welcome Warhawk!
Tim, I find that when I have a bit of stubble on my head, my beanie sticks to it as if it were glue. That beanie ain't going nowhere until I give it a good tug. I see how it could be a problem when you're completely smooth though. What's the solution that you're working on?
-
Im trying to come up with a concept that puts a small band of rubber like substance around the inside edge of the beanie. You know like those gloves that have those little gripper dots on them...well put them on the inside of a beanie and thinking it will hold....what are your thoughts??? or anyones thoughts on that.

The best deterrent to any kind of shaving injuries I've found to date is SHAVING OIL! It's available at most drug and discount stores. There are several different brands generally available. It contains a variety of oils and practically guarantees no nicks, cuts, or scrapes. Very inexpensive and requires only a few drops. You've gotta try it!

Welcome aboard Mosin
I assume you are holding a Mosin Nagant 1891 in the pic? I picked up the m44 last year, good times.
Keep rockin the sly man, looks good on ya.
-
looks good
-
Tim - That sounds like a good idea. Are you going to make a rubberized beanie yourself? Another idea to consider is simply putting a rubber band around the bottom of it and then folding it up to hide the rubber band.
Cefus - Thanks, I'll look into it. :)
Marz - Nah, it's an M1 Garand. It's one of my school's drill rifles. I'd love to have a Mosin Nagant but I'm still 17 and living at home, and my mom is afraid of guns ???
fcb2001 - Thanks :D

Sounds like your comming around to lovin it but if not just remember your post about your GF rubbing your dome, is there any other reason to want to stay sly brother. O0
