hey slickdaly: welcome 2 the sly fraternity. glad that ya joined us. U already know the "answer" that we will give anyone that has thoughts of "doing the deed", "taking the plunge", or simple terms "shaving your dome". the answer is "shave that noggin" and wear it shaved 4 the 30 day trial.
the 30 day trial is an "unwritten" rule here at SBGs. after the 30 day trial, the new head shaver will officially decide 2 keep it smoooooth or grow it out. 99% decide 2 keep it smooooooth.
as far as "having" a job wearing the chrome dome, well... there R many of us chrome domes who have jobs and R not affected by it because we choose 2 shave R heads. i'm a very very proud RN and nothing says "professionalism" than wearing a chrome dome. matter of fact, a lot of my patients think i'm a doctor.

regarding your mother, i don't think that she will have a "nervous" breakdown because U shaved your head. i'm an experienced RN & i have never witnessed or seen any patient that had a nervous breakdown because a family member has shaved their head.
also... the "stereo-typical" comment on looking like a "nazi" is very insulting. unfortunately, U always have "stereo-typical" comments whether U shave your head, wear a full of head of hair, tall, short, black, white, brown, skinny, fat, etc.
all in all... it's up 2 only one person and that is U. U know that we will say "yes" 2 shaving your dome. however, R U already 2 experience all the positive benefits of wearing your dome smooooooth? that's my question 2 U?
again, welcome 2 the sly fraternity & keep us posted 2 your road 2 slyness. on a side note... i'm going 2 say a special prayer 4 your mother. take care.

First off, welcome to SBG, you'll love it here.
As for your problem, I couldn't agree with warhawk more!! The answer you're going to get here is to shave it! BUT you gotta do it when you feel comfortable with it. Don't do it because we think you should or because your Mom or your job tell you not to!!
Best advice, do the 30 day test. Determine that you're going to shave it and keep it shaved for a month. After that you do what you think you should do!
If you need any help just read through the posts about head shaving or jump right in with questions.

Hey Slick,
Welcome to SBG, buddy. Glad to have you with us.
If you have logged onto this site and if you are already significantly balding at 19, you will almost certainly go sly at some point. When? Well, that's another question. It's your call.
Post a pic that would give us a better sense of the "state of emergency." (lol)
Probably best just to hang out here a while, get a sense of the bald fraternity here. It'll help you build up a sense of confidence in yourself so you can shave the dome when the right time comes. You will know when it does.

Welcome....the hair is yours and the decision is one that you will have to make on your own...but know that this site contains nothing but support, guys who will step up and tell you what is what...almost all will say that going Sly was the best thing for them, but you must decide for yourself...We are all here for support so feel free to ask about anything.

Welcome daly. As Tyler said, the others have given you great advice. I understand your not wanting to upset your mom after dealing with cancer. How about gradual buzzes. This would give her time to adjust and let her see how well you are going to look sly.

Welcome to SBG.
I can understand you not wanting to upset your mom, but I'm sure she would be happy to see you happy.

As far as the 'Nazi' reference is concerned, I've never understood it. Hitler was a Nazi, and he never had a shaved head, so does that mean all guys with hair parted at the side should be called a Nazi too??!

Try getting your hair gradually shorter and see what the reactions are.

Welcome. I am also 19 and had some of the same worries. About the whole stereo type thing, I had a few friends say the same thing like bald people are drug dealers and skin heads and all that. Then I tell them to look at most of the crazy psyco killers and stuff, a large majority of them have hair. So ask your mom which she would rather see, a cool bald guy or a potential crazy ax murderer.

Welcome to SBG's daly. Plenty of good advice already from the bro's.
The best thing to do is talk it over with the people you think it will affect the most.
A gradually shorter haircut and then buzzing is probably your safest option at this point.
Good luck and best wishes for your Mom.

To help with your Mum's feelings maybe you can do one of two things. Raise money to shave your head and then donate it to the local cancer fund, or donate your hair to the Locks of Love foundation where they make wigs for cancer patients. This way you show your support for your Mum and other cancer patients and fulfill your dream of being SLY.

This is a great idea.
I also vote for slightly shorter cuts every week until you get it where you want it.
I mainly vote for your Mom's happiness at this point. She's had a tough year and you waiting a bit longer to do what you want with your hair is a small sacrifice to make for someone that has been so sick.
I say heed your Mom's wishes for now and after a reasonable amount of time has passed sit down and talk to her about why you want to cut/shave your hair.
Prayers to your Mom ..........

Daly, welcome to the forum and a great bunch of guys. In my opinion, do what you want. Shave now or wait for nature's course.
Whichever, you are a great guy for respecting your mother's wishes at this time. Best of luck and wishing a speedy recovery for Mom.
