I'm a sales representative for the largest producer of paints and coatings in the United States.
I'll give you a hint...our logo says "Cover The Earth".
The Sherwin-Williams Company.
...by the way, it's NOT Sherman-Williams.
I use to work for a competitor of yours.. DEVOE Paints. I am even a certified painting consultant. Whoopiee! LOL Doesnt do much good in the flooring business.
Well it's a small world. While I work for The Sherwin-Williams Co., I am actually a sales rep for the Floorcovering division. Most people don't realize that we sell flooring, although we are the largest wholesale supplier in the country. We just don't deal with retail, contractors only. How's the flooring business in your neck of the woods?

Chemical Engineer
As far as I know, I'm the only engineer in my workplace who actually performed all of the laborer jobs before I started telling everyone else how to do them, so I get RE-SPECK, YO!

cuz I give it. Looking to move into R&D, possibly for the government.

I am a Technical Writer for the Naval Base here in Indiana. Yeah I know, Naval base in Indiana? I write technical publications for equipment that the military uses. I love my job because I know that what I do allows the men and women over the pond to be able to use their tools to the fullest and know how they work.

When I worked in AIMD they had tech pubs called NAVAIR pubs. You wrote those too? That's really cool! I wish the procedures at my current job were remotely close to the tech pubs in the military...

Balddad - You work off of 21st Street?
Me? I am an IT Director for one of the top 25 IT consulting firms as ranked by the Twin Cities Business Journal. (We are #4). I design and manage networking and telecommunication infrastructures for 16 customers as well as our internal systems and provide support and maintenance for 500 users and 42 servers and any equipment they touch that draws an electrical current. I used to have a team of 5 other people under me, but they have slowly whittled away with the economy. I manage servers and workstations running Windows, Linux and OSX and in my spare time sell my services building Joomla based website design and eCommerce sites. Currently there are only 6 of those.

Antimidas, I work in Bloomfield.
BReady, I write mostly Navy and Marin Corps manuals. I haven't written a NAVAIR manual. But that doesn't mean I won't. I get new things I write manuals for all the time. I may not write the whole manual, but due to my technical experience and the different things that I have been exposed to technically in the military, I get the chance to see a lot of different pieces of equipment.

Fellow chemical engineer here, too. I love it, although my current job isn't true chemical engineering. It's process engineering but it's heavily weighed towards mechanical engineering. We are a defense contractor, so the work is really different. Our processes are typically more low volume and hand assembled type products.
My next job will probably get back into more traditional chemical process engineering. I won't like the fact that most of those industries are higher volume and continuous processes (more callouts, weekends, etc.). At my job our plant pretty much shuts down on nights and weekends.

It is possible to get the foot in the door. I'm 53 also and was just offered a new job on Friday out of a pool of 82 candidates. Just be persistent and hang in there.

I was in the medical profession for a dozen years and like so many others, suffered severe burnout. I rolled the dice on a new career and now own a manufacturing plant.
