I think Schro might be a runner.  I'm trying to build up my stamina now so that I can start running long distances - more than one lap   ;D

I don't plan on trying to compete.

go to Runner's World  www.runnersworld.com

it's a great website full of advice (gear, diet & nutrition, races, and training).
I've run a few half marathons using the custom training feature on their "training" tab (second tab from the left). From there you can plug in the info to suit you (fitness level, length of race, and how many weeks you have to train). The training schedules have been dead on as far as getting you in the right shape, and also allowing for rest.

I gotta admit, I'm not running that much right now...fighting some injuries in the legs. Been limited to the elliptical rider. Oh, and 12 ounce curls of course.

Good Luck,
Schro

Any time I have a dream about running I wake up with sore legs so the real thing would probably kill me.  :px

too funny!  I used to hate it but knew it was a good way for me to get in shape and get alot of the days frustrations out (I run at night)...at first I couldnt run 1/2 mile without stopping but I learned how to "zone out" so to speak and I swear one day I turned into forrest gump...finally got my barrings and realized I was 43 blocks from my house...so I said "I'm kinda tired..think I'll go back home now"....okay so I didnt say that, was more like "Oh $h!&, I gotta ran back now"....thats when I got hooked.

Anyway...you guys should try it.....pburke...next time you gotta go on a beer run..make it that, a beer RUN.

actually have never been much of a runner. my best friend in high school ran cross country. his dad started the leadville trail 100.  it is a 100 mile ultramarathon. insane if you ask me. but those people are in amazing shape.

Ya know, Mr. Burke, if you and I would get off our butts (and if yer knees are ok  *!d)....

That sort of thing can be achieved very gradually (listen to me...preachin' and not practicin' )....

but it's true...start out with 3/4 mile or 1 mile...2 or 3 (maybe 4) times a week....ad a 1/4 mile every week

you can get up to a 1/2 marathon by next February....patiently....diligently...consistently.....?

Yeah, screw it.....let's do the beer run

Do the runs after Chinese food count???

The last half marathon I did in April 2006 I was going great. I trained and was in great shape. I was keeping at a 7:00/mile pace when my chest started seriously hurting me around the 9 mile mark (felt like someone took a cleat to my ticker). Anyway, it was at that point that I remembered the story about the L.A. cop that had a heart attack in the LA City Marathon and died. Needless to say, I coasted in, finished the race at a 7:50 pace average, and decided my serious running days are over. Now, it's no more than 4 miles at a time, and at a reasonable pace, not a crazy pace.

Here's to drinking beer and eating pizza !!!!

I lost most my weight due to running a while back. There for a while I was logging three miles a week, which for a guy my size and in my shape is damn good. After a while I had to quit due to my leg giving me trouble. Too much impact caused an old fracture to throb for days afterwards. I would like to get back into it, but this time maybe on trails rather that hard concrete and asphault. Sprinting is more my thing though.
