certainly unprofessional. i was in a bar on my campus, and i was wearing a knit cap because it was 7 degrees out. i had to show my id to the 21 year old chick bartender, and she said, "you're going bald?!?!" so i can feel your anger ghost!! btw, i just turned 24 but have been balding since about 18-19

1) If she asked then it isn't apparent why you shave it.

2) I've had a professor say something, but not rude like that.

3) Professors are paid to pretend like they know everything about a particular subject.  For many, this leads to them thinking they are smarter than everyone and better than their students.  Best not to take it personally.

4) You should have a few funny explanations lined up.  Like "don't go to my barber"   "I never have a bad hairday"  "the babes like it" a few ones like that.

There's multiple ways to go about it.  You can be completely honest, give a witty remark, or just raise a brow and stare at them.  No situation will be the same, so just go with what you feel.  When I go the honest route, I just say "I got tired of losing my hair, and like the look better than balding".  But that's usually best when you're talking with friends you haven't seen in a while.  When it's a stranger, it's fun to make them feel awkward (it was THEM, however, who put YOU on the spot).  Just turn your head, get a mean look on your face, almost ready to pummel them, then start rubbing your dome... then eventually get an orgasmic look on your face, and keep rubbing..  Ok, i've never done that, but if anyone tries it, let me know if you get arrested.

We all obviously have reasons for shaving our head, so it doesn't really give strangers the right to be questioning us... but i guess we all question what we don't understand.  Some people are genuine about it, and truly want to know - others just do it for douchebag reasons.

Lol I didn't think of that situation. I'm on spring break right now (shaved yesterday) so when I go back to school I'll be prepared with an extra witty response if needed. She was off course in that comment, good that you let it roll off. I personally have been described as having an over the top personality so I don't think my sudden decision to scrape my dome will be a huge surprise to anyone at school.

:/O You have to remember this old bat came from a time when not many guys where sly. I would have come right back at her about how she dresses or something like that and turned the chuckles right back at her. Might would have good an F for the class but I have never been one to take any B.S. lol

unprofessional and innapropriate or just making conversation? you be the judge.

i was in a rather small class today (maybe 13 people or so), and i have this older woman in her 60's as a professor. she was taking class attendance and when she got to me she was like "alex why do you shave your head? you like that look?" i just said "yeah" because i was shocked she would ask me such a question in front of the entire class. it was kind of awkward. i felt like i should have told her the real reason i shave my head, but then again its none of her business and i think it was a rude question to ask to begin with. it seemed like she was asking me in a negative way like she dissaproved of it.

do you guys think that was an innapropriate question? if so would you have gotten offended?

I think in the long run situations ike these make you get comfortable with a bald head. Someone who has been bald for 10 years probably wouldn't even have noticed the remark.

She probably would feel beter if you styled a comb-over because it was the thing in her days.

I wouldn't be offended and would probably respond with something like, "Cause I'm just so darn pretty with it shaved!"

Inappropriate, yes, offensive? I'd say so. Man she's got some stones asking it front of the whole class, I'd be pretty aggravated. You should have whipped out some clippers and a razor and shaved her there on the spot.

I would take that in a positive way... you shave your head cos of MPB right... well she obviously doesn't realise this and 100% thinks it just a statement... thats great isn't it??? And perhaps the rest of the class think the same thing, to me thats a bonus, if anything she has just accentuated your confidence by pointing out that you CHOSE that look! One way or another she noticed you, due to your bold (not bald) hairstyle... did she notice anyone else in the class? Rock on! Just my opinion

I get nothing but love from my profs. so I would say that her question was very out of place and it could be taken offensively.
