New Guy the Third
« on: February 07, 2007, 09:43:39 AM »
Hey guys,

Just shaved the dome this week and its pretty exciting.  22 here from the garden state.  Man, its cold - i need to find a warmer hat now.  I was wondering if there was any beneficial outfits that could be recommended for a boney baldie...i was thinkin of a solid velvet blazer to go with the look but what do I know.  Also, is anyone else concerned with paleness, I guess the winter is not the best way to catch some color on the newly found scalp.  Is tanning or something common to do? ive never done it before.  I sound pretty shallow now.  Strangely, Im less concerned with my look I think than how I will respond to the new look.  Im just looking to feel more confident and take charge.  Well get back at me.  You guys are awesome.

read any good books lately?....im not sure why

welcome to the land of the sly!!
That look most definitely suits you  ;)
I can't exactly help you with your new look, but these guys sure know what they're talking about.

Have you ever read One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey??
fantastic book! :)

Hey lookin' good dude...  what's the temp out there in the east?  I'm in northern Alberta and it's been around -15 deg C. for about a week now.  Warmed up a bit.

I read mostly political science books so we won't be discussing them...    :-[

Welcome aboard.  Its my first winter going slick too!.  Had subzero temps or windchills all week out here.   Best thing for me has been, don't cover at all.  The cold deals with my paleness by getting some UV rays

Welcome to Sly Bald Guys!!

There's a couple of different threads on tanning and the use of self tanning products to add some color to your shaved head.

As for clothes - I think the bald look can go with many styles of dress.  Though, shirts with a collar tend to accentuate the look.

What type of books are you into?  I read mostly business oriented books, so if you're into those, I have a whole slew to recommend.

For fiction - there's always Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonegut,   Count of Monte Christo by Alexandre Dumas, A Conneticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court by Mark Twain, and Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

Tough it out if you want, but I finally broke out a hat Monday morning with that wonderful -35 degree wind chill we had going...

All kidding aside, I really have found that toughing it out gets some UV rays on my gourd, though a straight week of subzero is starting to frost it a bit.  In the mean time I have had some good results with Coppertones Endless Summer Gradual Tan.  Suppose it depends on your skin tone but I only needed two applications to get a natural look.

:) Welcome, NK. I live in NJ too and know how frigid the dome has been for the last three weeks. There are all kinds of caps/hats out there. My favorite is the cashmere my daughter gave me for Christmas, but the Nike Golf fleece is best on the coldest days. Since going chrome-dome in November 2006, I've found an unprecedented interest in the look and in clothes. I can recommend: turtlenecks, collared dress shirts, sweaters with high necks and  patterns around the shoulders and collar, anything black, stainless steel jewelry, and, if you wear them, glasses that complement the dome. Shades are essential. As to reading (I teach English and religion at a local college), have a look at Bruce Bawer's "While Europe Slept." It's about the death wish characteristic of most European nations, trheir failure to stand up to terrorists in their midst, and about their unwillingness to beget and raise the next generation--an eye-opener. Don't read much fiction any more, but you might like Nathaniel West's "Day of the Locust." Post your interests and I'll come up with something. All best, Professor Melon

Professor Melon:  I am a teacher as well, but at the high school level and with special education students.  Most of my kids can really get turned on to information concerning terrorism because of the world they live in.  Will definitely try the one you mentioned but any other suggestions? Might add that my population is basically Behavior Disordered so books about law and civil rights issues are big as well. Thanks
