Personally, I think you should do the first scrape yourself. it's a good feeling to do it yourself, and it makes the whole experience more "personal". If you do decide to go to a barber shop, let us know how that turns out!

Welcome.
I agree with the above. It's best to shave your own head. Take it slowly and steadlily. Don't worry about the time that it takes - slow and steady is the rule. It used to take me about 40 minutes to shave my head when I first tried to shave my head a year ago. Now that I've just reached the 30 days mark it now takes about 5 minutes !

Agreed. The self shave is the best shave. It's our "pamper" time.
