The best virus protection is to get a Mac.  :)

I have no virus protection on it.  Yeah, there are Mac viruses, but they are extremely rare.

I have a Mac with OSX but I used to work for an IT firm and got a free Sofos license, so no problems here!

At my old company we promoted F-Secure which is a good product!! We always advised people against Norton! I have heard good things about NOD32, but In my humble opinion I would suggest Kasperski!!

This thread got me thinking hard about my virus protection..... so I did some research.

I currently use Norton and it does what it is supposed to very well. BUT..... it does slow things down and the user interface, though improved for 2009, isn't very intuitive. They have sped things up a bit in the 2009 version as well.

So here is what my research unearthed:

Avast free version is just rated OK by every resource I found. My feeling is if you are using it, like it, and it hasn't caused you any problems..... keep using it, especially since it's free.

Nod32 fell into the middle and lower end in most of the reviews.

I also found that in most top ten reviews that I read Norton is rated somewhere between 5 and 10 on the list.

Kaspersky received very high scores in every review that I read and they were ranked no lower than three in any pole I read. I have a friend who changed to Kaspersky recently and he really likes it. If you didn't know it, Kaspersky is a Russian company.

The antivirus that received the highest score in the reviews that I read was Bit-Defender. It was rated first or second in every review that I read. Like Kaspersky, it received high marks in every category. It did a few things a little better than Kaspersky and was also less expensive. I saw that it was down loadable on-line for as little as $25.

All of the reviews that I read were for 2009 versions of the software.

The antivirus that received the highest score in the reviews that I read was Bit-Torrent. It was rated first or second in every review that I read. Like Kaspersky, it received high marks in every category. It did a few things a little better than Kaspersky and was also less expensive. I saw that it was down loadable on-line for as little as $25.

Mike, if im not mistaken, Bit-Torrent isnt anti-virus. its a peer-to-peer file sharing application.
