So I'm in Key Largo last week for a golf/fishing tourney. Golf went well the first day despite the high winds and the day we went fishing there were 6'-8' swells along with 15-20mph winds.
My friend (boat owner) successfully took a nap at the front of the boat for about 30 minutes. Once he was done I figured I'd give it a try. I don't get sea sick and actually find the rocking up and down quite soothing. Long story short, I fell asleep in 5 minutes and was then awoken by a wall of water that soaked me head to toe. Apparently a LARGE wave came and smothered the nose of the boat with water. Just as I'm opening my eyes I got tossed in the air and landed under my armpit on the corner of the adjacent bench. It knocked the wind out of me and ended up breaking 4 of my ribs.
Of course we continued to fish for another 5 hours. At that point I wasn't sure they were broken and I didn't want to be the guy that made everyone turn the boat around for bruised ribs. It's was a better story if I tough it out and they end up being broken.... Those 5 hours seemed like 2 days.
Anyway.... it's day 7 and still hurts like hell. Hopefully the doc will give me a few more days of goofballs.
Has anyone else broken ribs? How long before you were able to sleep in bed?

3 sail fish, 1 king fish and a dolphin-fish (mahi mahi).
We ended up coming in 3rd place so that's nice.

That's rough, cheese. Never broke my ribs, so no tips here. Way to take it like a man, though.

Wow Cheese, that's quite a story ...
I've never broken any ribs, but I did fall off a boat many years ago while fishing in Gloucester, Mass. Boston Whaler whacking the waves sent me overboard hitting my chin on the side of the boat, requiring a bunch of stitches. We did catch a bunch of Flounder that day, though ...
Hope you're feeling better ...

hey cheese: wow... sounds like a fun boat trip. i've never fractured my ribs. the best treatment for fractured ribs R an ice pack & over-the-counter pain meds like tylenol or advil. if the pain is not relieved... prescription pain meds will do the trick.
