I agree that Heath Ledgers played a good part, but if he wasn't dead would he nominated for it?
I thought the movie sucked as bad as the last one, just sucked longer... almost 3 hours. Too many imperfections, like why would you go to the trouble to have a new suit created that Batman "could" be stabbed or shot in and then have the joker kick him with a blade protruding from his boot and Batman not get stabbed??
I still think Jack Nicholson was a much better Joker, he just needed a better script.
DC comics needs to have script writers read the original novels!!!
I say its a rent if you have young kids.... IMO

i strongly dissagree. batman was mediocre. so was the story line. heath ledger was by far the best joker though. jack nicholson was a good joker but not AS good cuz he wasnt as dark as heaths. he looked more like an actual clown back then. i like it how in this version he was more like a regular guy who dressed up.

heres the difference.

Jack Nicholson as joker:

Heath Ledger as joker:

i think Ledgers was more realistic.

I could not disagree more. Nicholson is the most over-rated actor of our time. He has one role: Jack Nicholson. His portrayal of the Joker was completely flat and one-dimensional.

Ledger's performance was utterly sublime, and yes, I think he'd still be nominated if he were still alive.

I think it was pretty good. I was disappointed that Harley Quinn wasn't in it though.

I didn't like anything about the 1989 film.  I read that Nicholson was ticked off that he wasn't offered the role of the Joker for The Dark Knight.  I can't believe he really expected it; at this stage of the game he's more suitable for the role of the Joker's grandpa.

^^that doesn't make sense? why would he be pissed that he got offered the role of the joker? did you mean to say he was pissed because he didn't get offered the role?

I think the Dark Knight was a fantastic film, I also liked the tim burton batman, it is hard to compare the two as they are two completly different movies. Tim Burtons Batman was dark in a Tim Burton sort of a way (slightly gothic, with Danny Elfman music) and the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight was just plain dark.

Granted if you are looking at this from "it doesnt historically follow the comics" point of view, the film is flawed. But what you got to remember is that The Dark Knight is someones 'representation' of Batman, it doesnt need to be acurate to the last detail!

In regards to the oscar, would Heath be noninated if he was still with us? I hope so, because he really did play a fantastic charactor, he played a true psychopath. What we also need to remember is he was noninated for Brokeback Mountain, so the man can quite clearly act!!

Sorry for the long post!  O0

i loved the part in the dark knight when joker shoves a pencil into the table and was like "let me show you a magic trick!" and he grabs the guys head and shoves it on the pencil lol.

i almost pissed my pants laughing so hard.   :*))

I loved both Batman movies...  while they were both different from each other, they followed two different strains.  Batman 89 followed more of the comic book line and Batman Begins followed more of a graphic novel line.

Two different takes, both outstanding in their own right.

Just wanted to clarify something. I think Ledger should get nominated for something because he was the only interesting part of the movie. He is the only character that made the movie bearable for me. I was only posing a question.
To label a movie the dark night and have Batman be a pansy just don't set right. He needed a body count. A dog bit him... I mean come on. I thought they might actually bring some action when the girl blew up, but what a let down. They should have left her alive but disfigured as well and had her and two-face (which was a joke) go off the deep end together... and given batman the friggin letter to bring out some "dark" side. Note.... If I was driving a van and someone was shooting a rocket at me I would slam on brakes!!!!

Maybe I shouldn't have watched the movie Wanted before I watched Dark, because the bar was set high after that.

You don't know much about the Batman. He never intentionally kills.
