High End Blades
« on: December 15, 2008, 04:26:17 PM »
Hey Sly Bros, hope all is well. Quick question for those of you who use the more expensive razor cartridges like the Fusion, Quattro Titanium, Mach III etc. how many shaves do you get out of one cartridge and what is your tip for extending the life of the cartridge?

Thanks O0

i use the mach 3 turbo and it all depends. i dont really coutn the time si use it till i replace it. basically on the mach 3 turbo theres a little aloe strip that changes from green to white when you need to replace it but its really innacurate. ive gotten like 5 more shaves out of the blade when it changed color. so right now i just use the blade until the strip falls off completely haha. its really s***** actually cuz its unpredictable. ive had the strip fall off after 2 shaves before it even changed color, and ive had times where ive shaved maybe 11 times and it never came off. so it all depends really. if you wanna make it easy though just give it a number of times you want to shave until you replace the blade. i say......give it like 6 shaves.

I'm with Brkeatr.  I change it at 2 weeks but could go longer if I needed to.  Just take care of the blade by drying it off after each use and spaying with alcohol.

I use the regular Mach 3.
I have tried Mach 3 with Gillette Series Shave Gel and I can get 3 shaves out of each blade.
When I try Mach 3 with bald guyz shave gel I can get 6 shaves for each blade.  So the moral of this story is if you
get a good shave gel (like bald guyz shave gel, which is probably the best out there) you will be able to use the same blade for more shaves, with no cuts & no irritation.
I hope this helps.

I use Fusion blades as well.  I tend to break out so I usually get a week out of a blade.  But I also recommend alcohol after every use.

It depends on the shave cream/gel/oil that I use.  If I use shave cream or gel from a can I get 2-3 shaves.  If I use a gel like Bald Guyz I can get 5-6 shaves.  Oil (like baby oil) seems to make the blade float across the scalp. It also depends on how log my hair is when I shave it.  I shave once a week (or more if needed).  I usually use an older blade on the first pass then switch to a newer blade for the second pass.  I'm sure if I shaved more frequently, I'd get more life out of the blades...

Hope this helps.
(BaldGuyz gel + Gillette Fusion) - hair = a beautiful thing!

Thanks for all the input guyz, I have been drying my blade but still have to try the alcohol spray?  I get about two weeks maybe a little more using a schick quattro titanium blade. O0
