I think I mentioned this before in another thread. We are having peacock. I managed to fatten 3 up real nice, I had them on double the protein that they normally get. I got the biggest one up to 21 lbs and the smallest was 17 lbs.

OK....so what does peacock taste like??

I seen the Turducken on the poll and I guess I'm the only one going that route this year.

If anyone is looking for something different that is one hell of an alternate.  O0 O0 O0

My thanksgiving day will be a little postponed this year because of work. :(

There isn't an option for me.  My grandparents are bringing over a wild turkey that my cousin shot.

Lol. They weighed that much after plucking. After I gutted them they are still pretty heavy. Peafowl are dark meat and they taste more like a pheasant. When I finish them I feed lots of sweet feed and citrus and such to give it a sweet taste. The males grow much faster and are less fatty than the females. Technically they are still peachicks because they arent mature yet but still, lol. And before anyone says anything about me eating chicks the turkeys in stores are only about 17 weeks old, the cornish game hens they sell in the stores are only about 3 weeks old, and a nice big fryer chicken still has the cute chirp when you butcher them.
The only bad thing is the skin is more tough so I normally just fry it.

Yeah, its always funny when we get ready to butcher meat birds and friends see the little fuzzy chicks and they cant believe we are eating them. One of my friends actually thought that the cornish game hens were a full sized game bird like a partridge or something. When I told them that they are just a young hybrid chick that most of the time is a male they almost didnt believe me. Then I told them that they were bred to gain 2 lbs a week and they were really suprized, lol.

I noticed someone mentioned a turducken. I have friends that make Phezturduckens, they make it ike a turducken but they put the pheasant in the chicken.

For the guys that haven't tried a Fresh, not frozen, turkey.... you don't know what you're missing.
We've been doing the faamily Thanksgiving with 20 or more people every year for 14 years. For the first 8 or 9 we had frozenturkeys from the market. Then one year I decided to try a fresh turkey but nobody but my wife and I knew.

We had rave reviews that year so it's been s fresh bird every year since. Do yourselves a favor and try it. Pay the little extra, it's worth it.

Cut some oranges and apples and stuf them into the bird along with some fresh sage and rosemary. Don't pack themin.... the aromas need room to move around.

I ordered a 28 pound bird for our gang.............

We have to split the holidays every year between my side and my wife's side.  We usually eat Thanksgiving Dinner with her side and Christmas with mine.  So it's pretty much whatever her mom is serving up.  I think it's usually a frozen bird.  Being honest I don't know if I would be able to even tell once it's been cooked and I pour tons of gravy on it.   ;D

Damn...thats a big bucket of chicken!

I had to laugh at a story that I have.  My wife...she is always making me laugh.  You have to remember she grew up in the country at one time lived out in the deserts of Arizona...away from civilization.  She once told me that her first trip to McDonalds was when she was in Highschool.  Well I had been dating her for about a year and I guess she has never noticed the big bucket on the signs at some KFC's...its a 3D bucket on some.  We drove past the one here in our town and suddenly I heard her say...DAYUM Thats a big bucket of chicken!   I was like What are you talkin about .   She said up there on that KFC sign by the road...it has a big bucket of chicken on it.  I was like ...well yes...its always been there.  She argued with me that it hasnt...but it had been..at least for 5 years.  So anytime we pass a KFC i holler out ...DAYUM THATS A BIG BUCKET OF CHICKEN! LOL
