Amazing/Heroic people............

In our lives we hear stories of day to day heroes/amazing people. There are also heroes/amazing people through out history.

What's your story of an amazing person or hero you've met or read about?

I'll start:

Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish Catholic Priest that was imprisoned at Auschwitz during WWII. He was a remarkable man. With one act of kindness he changed the lives of many.

I found out about Maximilian Kolbe a couple of years back during a 10 week seminar I took at our Church. He has been my "hero" ever since.

Man there are alot of heros I think of but this lady is one who stands out. Her name is Immaculee Ilibagiza. She is a survivor of the Rawandan genocide in 1994. For 91 days she huddled in a small bathroom in a pastors home with seven other women. Most of her family was massacred but later she came face to face with the killer of her family and found something few people ever could...forgiveness. She wrote an inspiring book called Left To Tell that I would highly recommend.  Her website is
