I got to see them in their Eliminator, Afterburner, and Recycler, tours,, they put on a great show,, and sound great. One of the tours,, I think Recycler,, they had the Black Crows open for them,, I liked their album,, but they were so trashed they sucked. But ZZ made up for it.

Hmmm... I could have sworn Musicman000 had a post last night where he mentioned Jaco Pastorius . I know next to nothing about this guy...Haven't really heard him play, but I understand that he is supposedly to the bass what Jimi Hendrix is to guitar.

Gonna throw out another favorite - John Myung (Dream Theater) - gotta love someone who can pull off playing a 6 string bass that well!  O0

I was thinking about adding Jaco to the list as i started treading this thread.
Victor Wooten
Stanley Clark
Marcus Miller
Flea
Geddy Lee

One that probably no one has heard of is Jean Baudin
he plays 9 and 11 string basses, sounds amazing, nothing like a bass guitar though.
Take a listen to some of his solo work

I'm listening to this as I respond...and it's quite different and cool. It doesn't show any really clear photos of his bass, but based on the sounds I'm hearing, I'm wondering if what he's playing isn't a bass variation of the Chapman Stick? (Interesting side note here, I went to high school with Emmett Chapman's <the inventor of the Chapman Stick> son, Don.)

No, it's not a chapman stick, search his name on youtube, there's multiple videos of him playing.
