Discussions About Being Bald > Advantages and Disadvantages to being Bald
Have you found yourself recognized by general public
D.A.L.U.I.:
I am approaching one year, and one phenom of being sly that I have noticed is that I'm no longer asked my name at merchants I deal with. For the guys that have been sly for years and years, they probably don't remember just being one of the crowd. I was just another balding guy, now I stand out and in a positive way. For example, I've been going to the same laundry for five or more years, and until I shaved my balding head I had to give my name every time I picked up laundry or dropped it off. Now, I put the laundry on the counter and they just say thank you Mr. _____! They also just say how are you today as they go into the computer to locate my cleaning--never asking my name any more. Same thing at the drug store we patronize. In business, it's almost frightening how well I'm remembered, the people who would always dance around my name since they couldn't quite put their finger on it, now remember my first and last without any problem.
It's nice to be recognized, it's nice and very convenient to be Sly. Anybody else noticed this?

You know...I have noticed that. More and more people know who I am ( never mind the fact that I live in small town america where everyone knows everyone) Sometimes they may not know my name but they will say hey you are the guy who works at the floorcovering place.

Without a doubt!!
A few weeks back all of the "Professional Staff" in my group at work had to give individual oral presentations in front of all our upper management. One of the things I like about my job is that I CAN remain anonymous to those clowns.
When I commented to my co-workers that my anonymity was about to end, one of them said' "I don't think so.... over a hundred people are presenting. You're just another face in the crowd".
I laughed and said' "Maybe just another face but not just another head. I kind of standout with my shaved head and tattoos, don't you think?". Everyone laughed and agreed.
I know that all the upper management recognized me because I do stand out but I'll bet NONE OF THEM knew I actually worked for them. I'm one of the highest regarded and skilled people in the company at my position. I could see the looks of mild surprise on their faces when they found out I that was the face that went with the name.
In fairness to my management ... most of them are pretty cool.

Yeah guys, I have to say that it is hard to be just a face in the crowd when you got a slick shiny dome.

Even before I was sly people remembered my name, and other things. there used to be a sandwich shop in town, I went there twice in about a month's period(ordered the same thing both times), the third time the gal saw my jeep pull up and before I could order she had the sandwich, that I had ordered the previous two times, made. Lucky for me, I was going to order it again.
Maybe it isn't so much recognizing me but stalking. I am going to lock my windows and door now.
