Started Running - First Time Out, A Race
« on: September 01, 2008, 06:53:27 PM »
Figured I'd get started in running with a bang and ran the 10k Nike Human Race on Sunday.

It took me 1 hour and 15 minutes and I ended up around 21791th place out of over 300,000 it looks like  :D

I was happy just to complete it and I think I did alright considering I never run, take the stairs or anything like that. I could have done better but the route I took had some steep hills, not a good idea.

Here's a graph of my run:

Funny how a thread with nothing but 'Later' gets more responses.

Oh well.

Later.

I know how ya feel, Lucky...

I've started lots of threads where you can see that people have read them but no responses....

Then they'll maybe have 3 tops....

Happens to the best of us.

Anyway...way to plunge right in with the run, man  O0

Congrats on the finish there Lucky.   For a first time effort that is some good results.  Hope you iced down afterward.

Dude your pace was steady for most of the race! That's pretty good  O0

I use nikeplus as well and I haven't started running 10k yet since I don't want to shock my body :P I started of with 2k to 3k to 4k and then to 5k and so far no pains. Its pretty encouraging to see how much you improve from when you first start with nikeplus too :)

Thanks guys!

Felt pretty good considering lol... Legs got a little rubbery the next day and it was really hilly so my knees took a little beating going downhill.

I did another run today of about 3 miles and it went really good, this one was inside on a track at the gym... much better haha.

The Nike+ system is an awesome motivator, I really like it so far!

Thanks again for the comments :)

Lucky you're in great shape to run a 1ok off the bat. You should consider training for a marathon one of these days! I'm slowly building up my body to run a half marathon then move to the real deal later on. It'll make a great story to tell when the kids and grand kids come :)

Good For You Lucky13mn.....I use to run a lot......the only way I would run 10K is if the big bear behind me ran 9.9K.  :D :D :D :D
I was told to think outside the box, how did I get in the box in the first place?

Hahaha, yeah motivation is key... and that's what this Nike+ iPod system is doing for me. Since the 10k on Sunday I ran for 30 minutes Wednesday (about 2.7 miles) and 5k today in 31 minutes, my personal best, and I also got a personal best in the mile, Tiger Woods congratulated me and told me so lol.

I'm sore as hell right now but it feels good, I love this system.

Hopefully someday I'll work my way up to a marathon, that would really be something!

For anyone interested, my stats are public (yet more motivation)... I record my walks along with my runs.
