One Day as a Lion
« on: August 20, 2008, 02:41:13 PM »
Hey cats,

Anyone heard of this new Zach de la Rocha and Jon Theodore band/self titled EP?

For the uninformed Zach de la Rocha was the vocalist for the critically acclaimed Rage Against the Machine.  If you're under 40 you've at least heard of them if not a fan and if you're over 40 i still bet you've got a pretty big chance of hearing them and digging their music as the guitarist Tom Morello's riffs were very derivative of great 70's hard rock before him.

Jon Theodore will be less recognized as his only claim to widespread fame is as one of the original drummers for The Mars Volta.  Although not as famous, he happens to be one of the most technically gifted drummers featured in a band on the radio in the last decade.  The Volta recall Yes type prog rock and have been putting out albums of varying quality for the last 3 or 4 years.

In any case here is a link to their myspace:  http://www.myspace.com/onedayasalion

I'll admit i haven't listened to it yet as i'm at work, but wanted to see if anyone else had.

Listening to it now.  Very Rage-esque.

Casey, I've heard them a few times on my local radio station (PLUG ALERT!) 90.3FM KEXP, www.kexp.org.
I since looked them up on itunes, and from what I heard, I like what zach and jon have come up with.  I agree with tyler, "very rage-esque".
I plan to buy the EP.

Ok, last night i listened to the one song streaming on Myspace and actually didn't like it very much.  I think i was expecting more funk or rhythm than the keyboards could provide.  They felt like they were emulating guitars rather herky jerkilly.  I'll have to hear it and the other songs again though, because i was with my younger brother who only listens to punk rock and hard core.  His sneers and jeers probably clouded the judgement a little.

Hahah yeah, I promise we drink more than just swill sometimes, but nothing beats a thirty pack case for plastering a wall!

Now did you take those pictures, because then you deserve super props.

Yeah, i bought the EP a few weeks back, and I agree with you.  It monotanous.  Not good when a 5 song EP is predicatable.
