Hey all,
New poster here, and a semi-new guy to shaving my head. I've been doing it for about two months now but I'm having two rather large problems. First off, I've been getting extremely bad bumps and rashes on my head. They're rather unsightly and ruin the look I want, not to mention itch like crazy. I could use some tips to getting rid of 'em.
Second, I can't get my head completely smooth. It doesn't matter how much I shave or whether I go against or with the grain. If I run my hand over the skin, I can still feel stubble. How is it that some people are able to get the head completely smooth?
Thanks for the help!
b-phoenix: 1st of all welcome 2 the sly fraternity. glad that ya found us. post up your headshaving routine so that we can give a better way 2 help ya out. do U shave in the shower or sink?

Thanks for the welcome.
I've been shaving in the sink before I take a shower, but looking around I've been seeing that it's better after or in the shower? I also use a generic brand of shaving cream and Gillette three-bladed razor. I don't really take any other steps, other than wetting my scalp and apply the shaving cream. I do find I'm forced to go over the same spot a number of times to get any semblance of smoothness, but not smooth enough.
okay.... i think if U follow my current routine it should help out. here goes:
1. jump in the shower
2. hot/warm water on dome
3. apply SHAVE SECRET OIL.
4. apply HEADSLICK shaving cream or BALD GUYZ shaving gel
5. spray rubbing alcohol on dome (U can place it in a 2oz spray that U can buy at walmart in the travel-size section)
6. spray rubbing aclochol on fusion (manual)
7. start shaving your dome & re-spray the alcohol on razor every 2 or 3 passes (against the grain)
8. cold water rinse
9. ice cube rub
10. pat dry
11. apply witch hazel or aloe vera gel (keep it in the fridge)
THIS routine should help ya out.

For what it's worth here's my deal: I shave in the shower, it's the last thing I do to give the hot water time to soften up my hair.
I don't use generic anything on my head. I use Nivea for Men Xtreme Comfort mixed with a little HeadSlick and a Fusion. ( I have a Mach 3 for standby)
Smooth as silk here. I shave against the grain and it takes several different directions since my hair grows in all different directions it seems.
Hope that helps.
oh... i 4got 2 mention 2 apply the sunscreen on the noggin' b4 leaving the house. use a sunscreen with atleast a 30spf. i go back & forth with the BALDGUYZ sunscreen & banana boat dry block. U gotta protect that dome.

Study and see what the other brothers up here are saying. You'll see some trends. Follow them. Remember, what works for another may not be your thing. Experiment.
Welcome BP!
Try using some ClearHead from the HeadBlade folks for the bumps. Be careful after the shave to not put anything oily or greasy on your scalp. I really like Bald Guyz Gel.
Welcome BaldPhoenix
I will say hot shower and I can not say enough good stuff about Apricot scrub on the scalp. I got this the other day and this helps. I have had the best shaves after using this stuff.
One of the best ways I found to increase the slickness and increase the length of time your smooth is to wait at least 30 minutes (60 min is best) after you wake up in the morning. Some wise sly guy suggested this to me when I started so I reversed my morning routine ending with a shower / shave and wow did it help!

On Saturday's if I know I'm heading to town that night I'll wait to shave until just before I leave. Working all day in the sun then catching an evening shave the slyness lasts and lasts. Even the next morning I'm just starting to feel a little bit of stubble in the stubborn places.
For the rash I use a 75% / 25% blend of clear unscented aloe gel and vitamin E hand cream. If going out in the sun I substitute the hand cream with sun tan lotion. Seems to work for me.
Hope this helps out.
Welcome onboard!

I have been using Warhawks rubbing alcohol method and since
started that not even slightest sight of bumbs or irritation

Love that stuff

Keep it sly bro! Take care
I have been shaving for 2 years now and love it and the wife loves it to

I started out shaving at the sink and after a while moved to the shower much better

you need to use the Apricot scrub for sure and at the end of the shower turn off the hot water and cool the dome down with cold water

I use the Headblade and a Mach 3 for touch up. You need to try different things until you find what works for your dome bro
