I don't think it's that much different.  I always grew full beards, and it was a "beard" in two weeks, but not "groomed" until after a month.  My new position just sent me on a two week trip to Iowa, and while on it, I thought I'd try a "goat" (I'd always done the "full" magilla before.)  So tonight I have a goat.  It's pretty much the same story as I recall, it's clear I've got a "beard" but it's not what I like, beyond the fact of the "white" or "grey" that's shown up!  I don't like to see skin in a "beard" goat or not.  And I can still see skin, so I think it's still the same, it would take a month for this animal to grow.  My decision tomorrow morning will be to see if I keep the "infant" growth and go home, and really p*ss "She who must be obeyed" off or shave it and start it again on the 18th of August when I submit to the wishes of #1 daughter to let the hair grow out for the wedding in October.  It will be interesting, and I'm not sure what I'll do.  I'm even thinking of signing off here as Saintc, and signing on again after the wedding as a "permanent" Sly, I just don't know.  It's not depressing, it's just having to go where I don't want to go except that for my daughter I will.  Razor, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, it's just the result of having tried a "beard" for the first time in more than 15 years, and the first time sly.
I can tell everyone though, that although it may be the same phenom as seeing a lot of sly guys after shaving the remains of MPB, I've seen a WHOLE lot of goats in Iowa.  Maybe it's all the corn, and I've got to tell you I've have NEVER seen so much corn in my life.

I am attempting to grow the full beard route right now and it seems to be taking longer than in the past.

You can use the goat as leverage in negotiating your slyness once the wedding is over.  Agree to shave the goat only if the head is part of the deal.

Have any of you noticed, as you get older, that your facial hair tends to grow in faster and thicker?  I've fallen off the Mr. Clean wagon again -- gave it a good 37 day try this time, but I just wasn't digging it as much as I thought I would.   In the past, it's always taken me a good 10 days to grow a decent beard -- about 6 to get past the real scraggly stage and a full 10 to fill in completely.   This time I managed to grow the goat back -- completely -- in 5 days, and a couple of spots that have been traditionally slow to fill in completely grew as quickly as the rest of it (and no, it's not a full moon this week.    ;D  ).

I know that a lot of guys can't grow decent beards until they're about 30, but I always thought that what you could grow at age 30 is pretty much what you get for the rest of your life.  I'm surprised that it grew in so quickly this time -- not  that I'm complaining.  Has anyone else ever experienced this?

I started growing the beard again because I wanted to have some hair above the neck once I shave the head and I experienced the same, beard grows much faster now than 10 years ago.

I don't really grow a very good beard, but it's still filling in and I am 31. I still have some odd areas that have no hair or very little hair on my face.

I played High School football in the late 70's with hair down to about the middle of my back and a full beard. I could have started to shave when I was about 12, but hated every minute of it  (all I has was my dad's safety Razor).....I could grow a full beard probably just watching the news..........I had to carry a razor with me in the military to get rid of my 5' o clock shadow at noon.........
I was told to think outside the box, how did I get in the box in the first place?
