New Here - Intro Time!

Many people ask me why I shaved my head, which at first I understood. However now that I've been doing this for a whole 3 weeks now I have to wonder who these people are. I mean, I don't go up to someone I hardly ever talk to (or never met before) and ask why they curl their hair, or wear it a certain way. Is being bald much like being skinny? I'd never call someone fat to their face, but I have no problem calling someone skinny. I guess it's a society thing, I don't know how else to explain it so I'm going with that.
Anyway, I'll answer the question as I have many times over the last few weeks.
Why did I shave my head completely bald? First, I took on my father's genes which unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you see it, includes male pattern baldness. Over the last 10 years or so I've slowly begun the process of losing my hair and discovered the many fine ways of hiding the fact, or pretending to at least. I've always had the attitude that I will not fight it, but take matters into my own hands. As such, the time finally came after looking at photo after photo of my ever decreasing hairline.
The day finally came, albeit unexpectedly. I happened to mention for about the 600th time to my wife that I was going to shave my head, expecting the usual response I started to forget the topic again and move on when all of a sudden I heard something I hadn't expected.
"Go for it."
That, my friends, was all it took... 30 seconds later I had my clippers, shaving cream and Fusion razor in hand and I was headed to the shower. Now although she said "Go for it" what I heard was "You'd look hot if you shaved your head honey, do it now!"
So before she had a chance to change her mind I whizzed by her and headed to the bathroom to begin the transformation. Beginning with buzz cut, I shaved my head to a '1', whatever that means in real life I don't know, but it's very short. At this point I was already happier and couldn't wait to finally feel a razor scrape across my head. A brief shower followed with much anticipation of what was about to happen. Upon getting out of the shower I looked at my shaving gel, then my razor. For a brief moment I wasn't sure what to do. Just then I picked up the shaving gel and pressed the release button on top, rubbed my hands to a nice foam and worked it into my head. What a great feeling this was! Just as I started to have a second thought I grabbed my razor and went with the grain right down the middle, this folks means there is no turning back!
The shave was a great success and I loved the new look, but what would my wife and kids think?
I decided to test out the new look on our 5 year old daughter, like most 5 year olds she is if nothing else, brutally honest and my toughest critic. As I walked into her room she was just settling in for bed, she heard my footsteps and turned to face me.
What would she think?
That was a question I didn't have to wait long to find the answer to. Her response of 'Oh.... My... GOSH! Are you kidding me?!' whizzed from her mouth to my ears about 1.6 nanoseconds later. At this point there was no point in me asking, but I had to just the same... "What do you think?" I asked. What followed that question was not only unexpected, but something I'll not soon forget. "You look weird! (Hand gestures included.)" As those words entered my ears and made their way to my brain to decipher I couldn't help but laugh and try to justify my new look to a 5 year old, something I'm still trying to do 3 weeks later.
After that confidence booster it was time to introduce my new look to my wife. As you can imagine I was not quite as sure of myself at this point as I was just moments earlier. I decided that instead of just walking up and shocking her that I would grab my stocking cap and break it to her gently. I placed the cap on my head and proceeded to walk slowly up the stairs, wondering how she would react, each step felt like an eternity. I finally reached the top where she was not surprised to see that I had gone through with it, but at this point didn't know exactly just how far I had gone. Her words were something like, "What did you do?" Spoken in a way that told me she already knew more than I had figured. In a flash I had removed the stocking cap expecting a reaction much like our daughters. To my surprise it was quite different... she actually enjoyed the new me and commented that it made me look younger. Excited, I ran (ok, I walked) to the mirror to admire my handy work once more and agreed, it did make me look younger.
Just the other day she commented again that it went with my 'bad boy image' I seemed to have lost with my decreasing hairline... a comment I was not expecting, but really liked to hear.

Thanks again for the warm welcomes!
It will give me something to look back on years down the road... The forum is easy for me to navigate since I run one myself on the same software, I think I'll be around here for a while
You all seem real down to earth, nice to see... I've had a couple good laughs already, still catching up though
